Notes From the Pastor’s Desk
Fourth Sunday of Advent
This Sunday we read the story of the angel Gabriel's announcement to Mary
about the birth of Jesus. This story is found only in Luke's Gospel. On this fourth
Sunday of Advent, the liturgy shifts our attention from John the Baptist to Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Both John and Mary serve as important figures for our reflection during the season of Advent; they
both played instrumental roles in preparing the way for Jesus. This week we reflect upon Mary's example of faith and obedience to God, traits which permitted her to receive the angel's message that God's
Son would be born as a human person, as one of us.
We are familiar with the story of the Annunciation, and it is fitting that we recall how God announced the birth of Jesus as we make our final preparations for our celebration of the Incarnation.
The angel Gabriel visited Mary, a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph. Mary greeted the angel's
news with awe and wonder and asked how it could be possible that she could give birth to a child. In
his reply, the angel Gabriel announced the seemingly impossible reality: the child to be born would be
conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and would be God's own Son. The angel reported to Mary
another miracle; her relative Elizabeth was also pregnant despite having been thought to be unable to
have a child. Mary's response to the angel, which is called her fiat, is an example of complete faith and
obedience to God.
The story of the Annunciation calls to our attention God's wondrous action in human history. God
chose a human person to give birth to his Son so that all humanity would know God's salvation. Mary,
already full of God's grace, was able to cooperate in this great plan for our salvation. Thus Jesus was
born as one of us, fully human and also fully divine. This is the mystery we prepare to celebrate at
Christmas, the mystery of the Incarnation. In the model of Mary, we pray that we will be people of
faith who recognize God's saving plan for us and are able respond with obedience.
Fr. Matteo
Tanto
Juan y María sirven como figuras importantes para nuestra reflexión durante el tiempo de Adviento;

The angel Gabriel today confronts Mary with a
mystery. The mystery of salvation in Christ is not a
mystery that is solved, but a reality beyond our
comprehension that we must choose to enter into. In
the liturgy of the Eastern Church, everyone waits to
see if Mary will enter into the mystery: God waits,
Adam and Eve and all the souls of the dead who long
for paradise wait, angels wait for new heavenly
companions. And there is much rejoicing when her
decision is “yes.”
We have less dramatic choices offered to us, but
the mystery of our salvation in Christ is by no means
“solved.” We may understand it a bit better due to
Mary’s “yes.” We may be a bit closer to it through
the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
But it still remains a mystery to which we all must
give our own “yes.” Soon we will be singing “O
come, let us adore him.” May our Advent prayer, our
echo of Mary’s “yes,” continue then, so we may enter
into the mystery of our salvation in Jesus Christ, God
among us.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
Imagine how Mary felt at the birth of Jesus: excited, awed, frightened. Deep faith was her light in the
darkness, for Jesus was born during the night of the year when darkness is the longest. In faith is
found the real, lasting, and deep joy of Christmas.
This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to bring
Christmas to the hearts of the poor by assisting families with food, and help for utility
and rent bills. Thanks! Thank You! Call 954-213-4690 for help. To donate household
goods, call St. Vincent Thrift Shop at 954-942-2242.

T'was the night before Christmas, and all through the town,
St. Joseph was searching, walking up roads and down;
When even the innkeeper sent them away,
Joseph was wondering, where they would stay?
He thought of the caves in the side of the hills,
"Let's go there," said Mary, "it's silent and still."
Thank you to all who have helped

The following is a list of the remaining pews for which you can donate:
The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow,
Made pathways of light for their tired feet to go;
And there in a cave, in a cradle of hay,
Our Savior was born on that first Christmas Day!
The Father was watching in heaven above,
He sent for His angels, His couriers of love.
More rapid than eagles God's bright angels came,
Rejoicing and eager as each heard his name;
"Come Power, Come Cherubs, Come Virtues, Come Raphael,
Come Thrones and Dominions, come Michael and Gabriel;
Now fly to the Earth, where My poor people live,
Announce the glad tiding My Son comes to give."

The Shepherds were watching their flocks on this night,
And saw in the heavens an unearthly light.
The Angels assured them, they'd nothing to fear,
It's Christmas they said, the Savior is here!
They hastened to find Him, and stood at the door,
Till Mary invited them in to adore.
He was swaddled in bands from His head to His feet,
Ne'er did the Shepherds see a baby so sweet!
He spoke not a word, but the shepherds all knew,
He was telling them secrets and blessing them too;
Then softly they left Him, The Babe in the hay,
And rejoiced with great joy on that first Christmas Day.
Mary heard them exclaim as they walked up the hill,
"Glory to God in the Highest, Peace to men of good will!"
Thank you! “We can certainly call you friends

TERÇO Laura Ramos
Cina DaSilva
Deus. Escutá-la é acolher o projeto que
Jesus veio apresentar e fazer dele a nossa
referência; o critério fundamental que
orienta as nossas atitudes e as nossas
opções.

DA ARQUIDIOCESE DE MIAMI
Neste domingo que precede o Natal de
Jesus, a história de Maria mostra
como é possível fazer Jesus nascer no
mundo: através de um “sim”
incondicional aos projetos de Deus. É
preciso que, através dos nossos “sins”
de
cada
instante,
da
nossa
disponibilidade e entrega, Jesus possa
vir ao mundo e oferecer aos nossos
irmãos – particularmente aos pobres,
aos humildes, aos infelizes, aos
marginalizados – a salvação e a vida
de Deus.

Imitar la Decisión de María
El ángel Gabriel hoy le
presenta a María un misterio.
El misterio de salvación en
Cristo no es un misterio que
se pueda resolver, sino una
realidad más allá de nuestro
entendimiento en la cual nos
decidimos a participar.
pronto estaremos cantando “Venid y adoremos”.
