Message
Duncan M.
Anderson
When writing something for the latest BulletIn and considering it is the Christmas Season
I could not help but reflect on A Christmas
Carol by Charles Dickens.
I am not saying that I am Ebenezer Scrooge
(Bah Humbug) but rather that I felt like
looking at Rockwood in the Past, Present and
Future tense.
PAST (Learn from it)
Over the past 64 plus years Rockwood has
accomplished many things due to the
volunteer efforts of the Executive and the
many members who have pitched in to help
with the various events.
Add to this the dedicated staff and the
multitude of guests who frequent the club you
could not expect anything but success.
related 50/50 but we still need to increase
other revenues and cut expense where
possible.
In a previous report I mentioned that like
the members the building is aging and we
need to develop a long range plan for the
clubs future..
The first step has been taken with the
creation of “Building For The Future”
committee which will begin its task early in
January 2015.
This committee, of Marjorie Miller, Roland
Dufault, Grant Kolodie, Bill Appleby and
myself, are to with prepare a report on their
mandate and objectives for the April 2015
Executive Council meeting.
I am sure that Rockwood's Past, Present
and Future owes its success to our pledge
of “Shoulder to Shoulder” but I would be
remiss in not closing with the Tiny Tim
quotation of “God Bless Us, Every One”
PRESENT (Face up to it)
Like many organizations Rockwood is faced
with challenges such as increasing the
membership, their participation, controlling
costs, providing appropriate events for the
members and the list goes on.
FUTURE. (Look forward to it)
With ANAF Canada celebrating 175 years
th
and Rockwood their 65 we as a club can
position ourselves to put on special events
that can lead to a very successful year and
good exposure in the community.
This will however take many volunteer hours
and most of all increased participation of the
members and their guests.
One side of the cost / income equation has
been addressed with the running of a great
revenue generator in Chase The King and its'

Rosie Towers, 2nd Vice
We have now said goodbye to year 2014
leaving behind many experiences and ready
to embrace 2015 with great enthusiasm.
I thank my committee who have been there
to help get the information together and then
out to as many members as possible:
Lindsay Swanson (co-chair); Linda Simpson
who does the advertising in the papers; and
Carol Gillis who does all the proof reading
for the Bullet-In, making sure all the t's are
crossed the i's dotted. Thanks goes out to
Paul Dufault, our webmaster, who makes
time to keep our website maintained. Last
but not least many thanks to Bob Johnston
and his photographic
expertise. Without
these volunteers there
would not be a Bullet-In.
Many thanks goes to my peers that have
given me current information so as I can
pass it on through the table toppers and the
NEWFLASH.
I have learned so much in the past year and
met a lot of wonderful people through my
travels not only to Dominion Convention but
to the different Units in Manitoba.
I wish each and every one of you Good
Health, Peace and Happiness for 2015.
Finance Report
Jerry Simundson
As my term as Finance Chair is coming to an end, I would like
to thank the Members of Rockwood ANAF for the opportunity
to represent them on the executive board.
Since my last report we have had a lot of major expenses. The
roof has had to be repaired again and the heat exchanger has
had to be replaced.
At this time I would like to wish the members of the club all the
best for 2015.
Ways and
Means
Jack
Mitchell
The Ways and Means committee continues to function
smoothly and efficiently. All draws perform as they
should, with money being earned by all, and much
enjoyment for the members and guests is evident.
Changes to the scheduling for this year's holiday season
are due to the occurrence of our meat draws and Chase
the King draws falling on the weekends immediately
falling on the days following Christmas and New Years.
Scheduling changes will be posted on the bulletin board.
The big screen TV draw was won by Jack Mitchell, the chair of Ways and Means.
Jack would like to congratulate his volunteers and committee members. They are to be
commended for their dedication to duty and the club. Without them it would be impossible to carry
on as we do.
Entertainment Report
Marjorie Miller, 1st Vice-President
II would like to take this opportunity to thank my committee: co-chair
Gale Lussier (decorator, shopper, wrapper and cook for the Children's'
Christmas Party), along with Anne Simundson, and the late Barb
Flamand; special thanks to Jock Amos for being Santa at the Children's
Party as well as Tyson Campbell-Miller and Diane Dracass who helped
as well. Diane is always ready to help whenever needed. Rolly Dufault
and his group who helped with the delivery of the jail for Western Night;
Jerry Simundson for being Santa at the Unit Party; and all others who
helped out, including the Executive and Staff. Special thanks go to
Romana and her staff for the great job catering our Special Events.
As you can see, I have bands booked until June 15, 2015, with a few
beyond that. We try to plan a party once a month if possible. We have
retired the Circus/Carnival in May in honour of Barb and will plan a
similar event on Canada Day when the children can join in the fun.
If you have any ideas for a new party, please let me know. My
committee and I will take it under consideration.

Pipe Major's Report
The ANAVET Unit 303 Pipe and Drum Band
2013-2014
December 31, 2014
The ANAVET #303 Pipe Band had another busy year performing for the usual parades and venues
including rural Manitoba and at the Rockwood Unit. A decision was made to remove the lengthy
parade in Brandon from our band engagements. This was the first summer in a long while that we
didn't perform at the Scottish Pavilion at Folklorama – apparently a slip-up with the new Folklorama
executive! I believe we are already invited for next year.
Some of our members, due to age, illness or hospitalization are not able to join us anymore, or at
least, not on a regular basis. We enjoy any time they can come out to a practice or to an event – if not
to play, then for fellowship. A terrific gathering was organized this summer so we could spend time
with former Pipe Major Bill Ramsay in Riverview, which was great for all who participated, and Bill was
very appreciative. There have also been things to celebrate, like weddings and retirements. It's terrific
when we can enjoy these events together.
Our novice players continue to be keen and join us when they can. Being with us is helping them
grow as musicians and will help keep our band membership strong. Some of them tried their hand at
some competing and have made good progress. Actually, we've had some experienced players head
back in front of the judges with great success too!
We still have impressive numbers when we're all together, and this is why we still provide great
performances on a regular basis. We had a very good turnout for Remembrance Day, and the
members of Rockwood Unit couldn't say enough good things about our performance. As we
appreciate our connection with Unit 303 and the privilege of using their practice rooms, they really
appreciate the flare we bring to their events. This fall, the Unit honoured piper Jan Embury and
myself with a certificate and medal, in appreciation of our contributions. We were touched.
As always, thank you so much to the members that support me and the band with their time and
talents; be it tuning, guiding the novices, filling in when I'm absent, being dependable and
encouraging. It is so appreciated.
Camaraderie AND great Highland music – what a great combination!
Thanks for another great year.
