Letter from the Editor:
“Gershwin and Greenspoon … Who could ask for anything more!”
– Madonna Nuckolls
I have a teeshirt with the above quote and a picture of Jimmy Greenspoon on it … and he loved it! Jimmy
liked it so much he asked for another one to be made as a keepsake for him. The world will not ever be the
same without Jimmy Greenspoon. I got more than my fair share of his “shenanigans” because he could always count on me to fall for them … and I loved it! I also loved his incredible musical talent, his quick wit, his
photographic memory and his tender heart. Our
deepest sympathy to his wife, Susie, his daughter,
Heather and all his loved ones including his bandmates of almost 50 years. This newsletter is dedicated in loving memory of Jimmy … we love and
miss you, Maestro!
Three Dog Night had an incredible experience in
New Zealand and the pictures speak louder than
words ever could! Oh how I wish Paul and I could’ve
been there. The crowds were unbelievable as you’ll
witness in the pictures that follow …it was an absolutely phenomenal experience for them all around in
this beautiful place!
In all these years this was our first “Four-fer!” We
followed the band all over the state of Florida to four
venues in early March and it was a total blast! I
think we clocked around a thousand miles and it was
so worth it. The cherry on top had to be the Fan
Club Meet and Greet in Ocala, FL and we hope to
entice you to join us for the next ones we’re announcing in the following paragraph. Nothing beats
getting to know these guys in person and meeting so
many of the fans who love them and follow them all
over the country!
Announcing the next “THREE” Fan Club Meet & Greets for 2015!!! The first one will held in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at The Cannery Casino! The second Fan Club event will be held
August 8, 2015 in Durant, OK at the Choctaw Events Center. And the final one of the year will be in
San Antonio, TX on September 25, 2015 at Lila Cockerell Theatre. Tom scheduled these early in the
year so you have more time to make plans to attend. All of these Meet & Greets will be held after the
shows. Please get your name on the guest list by e-mailing [email protected]. Don’t miss it!!! It’s
summertime … time to let your hair down and ROCK the night away with Three Dog Night!!!!

Celebrate the Life of
Jimmy Greenspoon
February 7, 1948 — March 11, 2015
OBITUARY
Three Dog Night’s longtime keyboardist
Jimmy Greenspoon, the keyboardist for rock
band Three Dog Night, has died at age 67.
Greenspoon died last week of cancer at his
home in North Potomac, MD., surrounded
by his family, said his agent, Chris Burke.
The keyboardist joined the rock band in
1968 and played with it until October, when
he took a medical leave of absence to pursue treatment for metastatic melanoma.
“He was like a brother to me,” Three Dog
Night co-founder and vocalist Danny Hutton
said in a prepared statement. “I knew him
since he was just a teenager, and he was
my oldest friend in the band. Also, Jimmy
was a critical part of our early history, bringing a sound to the band that helped develop
our style. He left an indelible mark.”

The group is known for its 1960’s and 1970’s hits “Joy to the World,” “Mama Told Me (Not to
Come)” and “Black and White.” Throughout his career, Greenspoon also performed with artist like Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and the Beach Boys.
I will be forever shattered by his death,” band co-founder and vocalist Cory Wells said.
“Jimmy cared so much about excellence in the music and always made sure we had what
we needed on stage and in the recording studio. I was amazed by his photographic
memory, His love for music.”
Greenspoon is survived by his wife, Susie, daughter, Heather Miller; and two granddaughters.

February 7, 1948 — March 11, 2015
I remember going to see the Beach Boys at a Surf Fair at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in the
early 60’s. The opening band was OK, but I thought the red headed keyboard player was very interesting. After the show we passed each other in the hall. He was playing a blues riff on a harmonica. I
told him he sounded good. He answered me with this strange English accent. I later learned that
Jimmy used that accent to get into clubs for free, pretending he was in whatever new English band
was on the local music charts. He was always very resourceful!
The mid 60’s was a hotbed for
bands on the Sunset Strip so I started to see him play at a lot of clubs in
a couple of different bands all the
time. My friend Mark Volman (from
the Turtles) told me that he was
moving from his house on Lookout
Mountain in Laurel Canyon so I
moved in. Mark's bass player Jim
Pons lived 2 doors down. Jimmy
moved in next to Jim and we all became neighbors and friends.
Cory, Chuck and I had been working
with Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys
as a vocal trio and decided that we
wanted to start a band and begin
playing live shows. We invited Jimmy up to my house and he played
with us and he was amazing. He
was the first member in the band.
Needless to say, Jimmy and I not
only become bandmates but also
good friends and partners in crime.
We traveled the world, performing
and taking vacations together, getting into many interesting
“situations”.
I still live in Laurel Canyon and drive
past his old house every day. I miss
him very much. There will never be
another like him.

Hi Madonna,
I’ve attached a copy of my THREE DOG NIGHT ticket from March 10, 1972 - - this is the history of the ticket:
I was 15 years old and my friend Susan and I had to babysit to earn the $10 to
purchase our TDN tickets - - - Susan’s Dad drove us to the concert hall at LSU - - we were to ride home with her brother David and a mutual friend Andy - - - (we
all went to school together 1st thru 12th grades) - - - we had a blast and hung out
together that Fri night into the wee hours of the next Sat morning singing TDN
songs - - - Andy asked me if I wanted to date him and well the rest is history - - Andy and I got married Nov 16, 1974 and last year celebrated our 40th wedding
anniversary - - Andy and I will be together at the TDN concert in Biloxi, MS May 8, 2015 and were
hoping to get our ticket signed by the band members! - - - every year on March
10th we celebrate another anniversary of our first time together and reminisce
about that evening in 1972 at that TDN concert! - - - Love was in the air! Ha!!
Thank you very much for all your help!

ROCKY MOUNT, VA — March 20, 2015
By: Teresa Brown
On March 20th my daughter, son and
I traveled to Rocky Mount, VA to see
them in concert. By sheer luck we
found out we were staying at same
hotel! The concert was just amazing
and now my 28 year old daughter is a
big fan! She is a juvenile probation
officer and the song "Prayer for the
Children" really hit home to her and
she actually teared up thinking of her
more difficult and sad cases!
After concert we headed back to hotel
and were lucky enough to meet them
upon their return! They were most gracious and posed for this picture with
me which I am very thankful! They
were my favorite group when I was
growing up and to meet them was
awesome!
By the way, if even possible, they
sounded even better than ever!

Towards the last part of the show people were dancing in front of the stage…it was so much fun! At the end
fans gathered round the stage clapping, snapping pics with their phones. The appeal of 3DN to a wide age
range of fans was evident.

Greetings, Madonna! Rick Benik here! Just checked the TDN website and noticed I couldn't find the Fan
Club link anywhere on their new layout. Can you help me find it?
Congrats for celebrating your 20th year of running the Fan Club! WOW! It seems like just yesterday when I
"hunted you down(!)" at OKC's Frontier City to have you sign Jimmy's book for a close friend who attended
that concert with me. You were so nice to make it happen and then wait for me to find you in the gift shop!
Thanks for all you and Barb do!
As an aside, on a subsequent TDN concert, same location, a few years later, there was no meet and greet,
but we (my girls and I) were able to give Michael a big "Thumbs Up" as they were being transported to a postconcert location. Mike gave us his infectious smile with a big "Thumbs Up" back.
My oldest daughter, Jill, told me shortly afterwards, "Face it, Dad! You're a Frick'n Groupie!!" I smiled and
then asked both of them to think of their favorite group, or solo artist. Then I said, "Now, you tell me 25+
years from now, you can tell me you can still go see them in concert, get to meet them, have autographed
pics with them, and STILL sound just as good as you remember long ago .... By the way, is your favorite
group still together?"
They didn't have an answer for me .... (:-)
Hi Madonna:
I imagine that the next newsletter will be more of a tribute and celebration for Jimmy Greenspoon. I remember the concert a few years
ago at the Arcada in St. Charles, Illinois. Every time I looked at
Jimmy, his eyes were closed as he played. One could see how
passionate he was about his music.
The picture of the concert in the valley in New Zealand is amazing; Lord of the Rings meets Three Dog Night.
Whenever, there is a meet & greet in Illinois, my husband and I will try to be there, and we hope to meet you
as well.
Suzanne George
Hi Madonna,
It`s with great sadness that I just recently found out the passing of Jimmy Greeenspoon. It’s a sad day in the
music world. Please pass on CONDOLENCES to the family.
I have fond memories talking to Jimmy on the Rock`n Roll Cruise some years back. Being a fan since 1969, I
was very fortunate to have a very nice conversation with Jimmy, explaining to me some behind the scene`s
info on his picture card from the album “Seven Separate Fools,” which he kindly autographed. We had some
laughs! I did pass on to him that a Toronto Canada radio station had just played “Chest Fever” by the Band.
His comment was that Mr. Greenspoon`s rendition was in the top two of all time. I would disagree, I believe
#1! I recall Jimmy saying thanks and smiling, feeling very proud.
REST IN PEACE JIMMY GREENSPOON (SPOONER). THE ROCK`N ROLL HEAVENS JUST GOT THE
PICASSO OF KEYBOARDS.
