“Spoonful of Italy” Promo Gives Guests a Taste of New HÄAGEN-DAZS Gelato
Hyatt Hotels & Resorts is getting in on the gelato boom with a nationwide “Spoonful of Italy” promotion that features
four of the new HÄAGEN-DAZS gelato flavors in a special menu of sweet treats.
“We’re very selective about the brands we promote, because we want them to match the quality standards of the
Hyatt experience,” explains Susan Terry, VP of Culinary Operations at Hyatt Hotels. “HÄAGEN-DAZS products have
always been right in line with that. We’ve done seasonal promos with the brand for the last 12 years, because it offers
that combination of comfort and indulgence our guests count on us to provide.”
Susan went immediately to her HÄAGEN-DAZS sales rep, Gary Lucier, who helped her coordinate all the details
to make their Italian-themed gelato promotion come to life. Colorful “Spoonful of Italy” in-room and restaurant
merchandising materials promote the special gelato items, which
include a Gelato Trio, an Affogato (Cappuccino gelato topped
with a shot of espresso) and an Italian Gelato Fizz (gelato with
Blood Orange soda) that’s also offered in an “adult” version,
spiked with Blood Orange Liqueur.
The high-visibility promotion will likely continue into 2014, with
the possibility of seasonal and holiday variations.
“We’re all about telling a great story with everything we promote,”
says Terry. “With ‘Spoonful of Italy,’ our guests see the HÄAGENDAZS brand and know they’ll be getting something they love
while the gelato angle lets us take them on a mini Italian vacation
without ever leaving the property. It’s two great stories in one.”
