Inspiring Learning
Camp ARF Changes Lives
Sophie was excited and nervous for her week at Camp
ARF. She loved animals, but couldn’t have pets of her own at
home and didn’t know quite what to expect at ARF.
Her fears quickly disappeared when a friendly Pet
Hug Pack™ dog greeted her with a wagging tail and friendly
lick on her first day of camp. During the week she learned how
animals experience the world, how so many end up in shelters, and how she could help. She made blankets and treats,
socialized puppies with her friends, and even got to help her
favorite shelter cat find a home. Sophie left camp with the
determination to volunteer, and teach her friends and family
how to make a difference.
Camp ARF helps kids grow into life-long animal lovers.

ust four years after ARF began, one of volunteer Bev
Greenbaum’s many jobs was answering phones for the ARF
hotline. While directing callers to various resources for their
pets, a common theme began to emerge: several disheartened
callers in financial crisis were in desperate need of help for
their sick or injured pets.
Empathizing with the caring guardians who had
found themselves in impossible circumstances, Bev decided
to take matters into her own hands. She began sewing catnip
mice and other small gifts to sell to raise funds for what would

become the ARF Emergency Medical Fund® or “EMF,” a fund to
help qualified low-income pet guardians who couldn’t afford
treatment for their dogs and cats. Bev was quickly joined in
her efforts by four other ARF volunteers, Dolores McCoskey,
Elvira Clark, Enid Schlichtman, and Dorothy Ballard, forming
the trailblazing and inspiring fundraising quintet now known
fondly as the “EMF Ladies.”
Funds from these sales, along with proceeds from the
ARF Thrift Store and generous public donations, have saved
the lives of thousands of animals in Contra Costa County. EMF
is a lifeline for struggling families whose pets experience an
injury or health crisis.

of already crowded shelters by supporting the ARF Emergency
Medical Fund®. www.arflife.org/helpemf.

Around ARF
What Will Your Legacy Be?
Your decision to remember ARF in your will or trust
will impact the lives of countless animals and people for years
to come. Legacy gifts provide very meaningful support, ensuring ARF will have the resources to continue our life-saving
work into the future, while fulfilling your own financial goals
and objectives. Planned gifts can include bequests, gifts of life
insurance, retirement plans, real estate, and other opportunities. Your legacy gift to ARF will one day provide a lasting
promise of hope for so many animals and people in need.
To discuss your plans, please contact Bobbe Bartlett
at [email protected] or (925) 296-3149, or visit www.
arflife.org.
Your Old Car Can Save Lives!
That rusty old clunker in your yard is taking up space,
is an eyesore to your neighbors, and is barely worth the effort
it would take to try to sell it. What to do? Donate it to ARF!
Your old vehicle gets new life when you donate it to
ARF. Whether it’s a car, truck, RV, or boat, it can be put to work
to rescue homeless animals.
ARF’s Vehicle Donation Program is one of the simplest
ways to make a big difference. Avoid the hassle and headache
of selling your old car, and enjoy a tax write off. All vehicles are
accepted, and ARF takes care of all the towing, paperwork, and
documentation for tax purposes.
All proceeds from the Vehicle Donation Program go
to ARF’s programs that bring people and animals together. It’s
an easy, free, and rewarding way to help ARF and animals in
need. www.arflife.org.
Three Easy Ways to Donate Your Vehicle to ARF

30,000 Adoptions and Counting!
30,000
Adoptions!
Ravioli only weighs a meager three
pounds, but he has the impressive distinction of
being the 30,000th pet adopted from ARF. Other
happy families joined in the fun of counting up to
the milestone of 30,000 lives saved! What’s next?
We’re already focused on the rescue efforts ahead
and saving more lives every day. Follow adoptions
in real time on Twitter at @ARFadoptions.
Looking for love...
