My Place - Multifunctional Cultural Center - a bridge to TCNs‟ integration in Romania

Starting from July 2014, the Multifunctional Cultural Center My Place has been hosting a
series of events and activities developed in Stage II, that are interesting and useful for the
foreigners‟ integration in Romania and for achieving the project‟s objective that is to
support foreign communities and third country nationals by maintaining a Multifunctional
Cultural Center and develop social, recreational, educational and cultural activities within
the centre in order to facilitate the existence of an adequate environment for developing
inter and multicultural activities with the support and direct involvement of foreigners.
The main activities of the project‟ Stage II are:
-Developing and maintaining the Multifunctional Cultural Center My Place in order to
achieve the objectives of the project;
-Promoting the activities and the Multifunctional Cultural Center My Place;
-Identifying and informing the beneficiaries and consulting with the TCN communities
in order to adapt the multicultural and intercultural activities to their needs;
-Organizing specific socio-cultural activities for the target group such as multicultural
events, exhibitions, culinary evenings, tearoom and library;
-Organizing socio-recreational activities such as sports, internet café, cultural cinema,
activities for children and the children‟s room;
-Organizing socio-educational activities such as: thematic meetings, workshops on
social aspects of TCN‟s integration in Romanian society, creative workshops,
workshops on creativity and sociotherapy - education through art and events at TCN‟s
request.
JRS Romania and Novapolis Association - My Place Center‟s team have already
planned and organized various activities for foreigners such as creative workshops,
games, sports events, walks, cultural events, language courses and thematic meetings
attractive to foreigners.

Courses, games, art, sports, walks and relaxation - IMy Place is for everyone!
We made time for everything and for all!
The Summer Garden was the ideal choice for Multifunctional Cultural Center My Place to
host the "Summer Beauty 2014‟‟ Miss Contest for the Filipino community in Romania.
Over 115 enthusiastic and good humoured persons enjoyed together this event. The eight
competitors were rewarded by My Place Center with a free makeup course and
promotional materials. Congratulations to all for the special organization and many thanks
to the Filipino community for this successful event, full of grace and femininity!
Filipino Sports Fest was a great opportunity to relax, socialize and compete in sports. The
Filipino Community‟s members in Romania had fun at the Multifunctional Cultural
Center My Place. The 4 teams: white, green, blue and red competed in an open and
optimistic atmosphere to win games such as touch ball, bunong braso (arm wrestling),
luksong lubid (jumping rope) and sipang bilangan.
They had the opportunity to participate in sports, dynamic relaxation activities and
activities for leading a healthy lifestyle that are meant to decrease stress and improve
physical status.

The launching and promoting Event of the project‟s Stage II which took place on 18th of
September 2014 was a good opportunity for all to meet again at My Place, enjoy the results
of Stage I and celebrate diversity. It was a pleasure to remember and review all the
activities developed in Stage I of the project. We also discussed about how we can do things
better and about the lessons we have learned.
In Stage II, The Multifunctional Cultural Center My Place continued the information and
promotion campaign and carried out field and online documentation and dissemination, on
the one hand, to attract and inform the target group and to provide quality services, and,
secondly, to identify potential resources and ways of collaboration within the project:
activities, materials, resource persons and organizations.

"Grab your broomstick and let's party!" was the launching invitation to an incendiary
Halloween party organized by My Place Center!
At the fashion design workshop at My Place, students were able to create their own
Halloween party costume and the most original costume was awarded!!! Those interested
were directed by a fashion designer armed with all the necessary things and clever ideas!
Don‟t be scared! Only friendly ghosts, nice witches and fierce costumes were present at My
Place Halloween Party 2014. The guests spent a wonderful evening with many surprises: a
haunted party and highly enjoyable sinister fun, music for all ages, buffet with various
dishes, costume contest with prizes and special decorations. Happy Halloween party!
At the International Folklore Festival "Garofița Pietrei Craiului" 2014, My Place Center
enjoyed a beautiful collaboration with CIS Braşov, Braşov County Council, the RomanianArab Cultural and Press Club, The Filipino Community in Romania. My Place supported
the participation of dancers from the Filipino and the Palestinian communities in the
International Folklore Festival "Garofiţa Pietrei Craiului", the eighth edition, which took
place in Brasov. This festival promoted the traditional culture of the participating
countries in order to create a bridge and a cultural exchange between the invited
ensembles, as well as to present to the guests the history, culture and natural beauty of
Brasov, thus contributing to the cultural enrichment and a better understanding and
cooperation among different cultures with different customs and traditions.
The group of 5 Palestinian dancers, who study in Romania, shared their culture and
traditions to a large audience within an exciting and enthusiastic show, and the group of 33
Philippine dancers delighted the audience with their performance, colourful costumes and
good humour.

In My Place Cultural Cinema, exciting movies brought us together. Everyone had popcorn,
nachos, juices and a good mood.
Relaxing atmosphere, sweets, tea and juice reunite us all together in My Place Tearoom.
Let the evening games begin!
At My Place we learn how to do a medical screening and learn first aid techniques from
representatives of Creighton Medical School in Nebraska.
Young and old, we are asking "present" to the guitar concert held at My Place Center.

At My Place we do karaoke, we get warm on Latino rhythms during the Latin dances
course, we learn English and German within foreign language courses and we get involved
in the Dramatic Art and Speech Arts workshops.

In approximately 3-4 months of activities developed in My Place Multicultural
Center were conducted 166 events with a total of 2794 participants!
My Place team would like to thank all participants in the activities of the Center as well as
to those who made it possible to carry out these activities.
