JEANS FOR REFUGEES
CELEB DENIMS CUSTOMIZED BY JOHNY DAR ON THEIR
JOURNEY TO SUPPORT THE GOOD CAUSE
‘Jeans for Refugees’ is a Johny Dar project and artistic fundraising initiative dedicated to
helping refugees around the world, with all proceeds going to the International Rescue
Committee (rescue.org).
One hundred celebrities – artists, film-makers, models as well as fashion influencers – have
come together to support the cause by donating their jeans to be painted by the artist. It’s
an extraordinary and unprecedented global collaboration, for which Dar has applied his
unique artistic style to create a colourful tribute to each of the individuals who contributed.
All 100 pieces will be exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London in October 2016 and
afterwards auctioned off October 2016 and auctioned online with specialist online auction
house Catawiki to raise money for the cause.
On their journey to their final destination they will make a stop-over at PREMIUM Berlin.
15 pairs of ‘Jeans for Refugees’ will be shown in a unique art installation at Premium Berlin
from 28 to 30 June 2016 presenting the painted jeans from no lesser celebrities than Kate
Moss, Emma Watson, Sharon Stone, Iris Berben, Florence Welch, Claudia Schiffer, Karlie
Kloss, Victoria Beckham, Jane Birkin, Elle McPherson, Candice Swanepoel, Sofia Coppola,
etc. This is where the audience can learn more about the cause, immerse themselves
in Dar’s art, and experience the innovation, collaboration and creativity of the Jeans for
Refugees initiative in person.
The refugee crisis has had an impact on everyone — it moves us all; it concerns us all. The
concept behind ‘Jeans for Refugees’ is to spread a message through art, to create positive
change and empower people to collaborate for a common goal, painting a new paradigm
and inspiring a brighter world.
