Purchase of this program allows you to use the software on one computer only. If you wish to use this
software on more than one computer, you will need to purchase additional copies or a site license. Site
licenses can be purchased directly from Bonnie's Fitware.
Teacher Observation Program - Handheld Version (2.5)
Unzip “NSBRuntime.zip
Unzip “pdbconverter.zip” if you are a Windows user
Transfer all three prc files (NSBRuntime.prc, MathLib.prc, and TOPS2.prc) to
your palm operation system handheld computer.
Run TOPS2
Data Collection
Name - name of student
Date - date of observation
#Students - number of students in class
Field - a miscellaneous text field that you can use as your wish. For example,
period number.
Tally - a miscellaneous tally field that you can use as you wish. For example, use
of names.
Feedback:
You can select as many as you wish per feedback:
General - general feedback, such as “good job”
Specific - specific feedback, such as “good job keeping your arms straight”
Positive - feedback stated in the positive, such as “good”
Negative - feedback stated in the negative, such as “bad”
Corrective - feedback that provides guidance on how to make it better, such as,
“step forward with your opposite foot”
Congruent - feedback aligned with the instruction
Incongruent - feedback not aligned with instruction
Behavior - feedback related to student behavior, such as “please be quiet when I
am talking”

Inf - inform (A task that names, defines, or describes a skill or movement concept with no focus other than just to do it. It usually is the
first task in a sequence of tasks).
Ref - refine (A task that qualitatively seeks to improve motor performance. Usually this type of task focuses on improving the
mechanics of a skill or tactical/strategic aspects of play).
Ext - extend (A task that quantitatively changes the original task content by manipulating the level of difficulty or complexity of
conditions under which the task is performed or that seeks a variety of responses).
Rep - repeat (A simple repetition of the previous task with no changes).
App - apply (A task that focuses the purpose of student performance outside the movement or an assessment of that movement).
Use of time:
St - start Le - lecture Ga - game En - end
WU - warm up Pr - practice Ma - management
Time can be recorded from the teacher or student perspective - your choice. Tape on start to start, then tap on warm up, lecture,
practice, game, or management; continue tapping as the activity changes. Tap on end at the completion of the lesson.
Trials:
This refers to the number of trials --- you can tally for up to three students:
Stud1 - student number 1
Stud2 - student number 2
Stud3 - student number 3
On Task:
At five different times during the instructional period, you can record the number of students on-task - but tapping above the line and
then writing in the number.
Report - Ends the data collection session, takes you to the report screen, and saves the data.
Report Screen
The report summarizes the data collection.
Tapping on the “Print” button sends the summary to a printer.
Viewing on the Computer
Window Users
Double click PDBConverter
Select File-open tops.pdb
If you can’t find tops.pdb - conduct a search to find the location where it is stored.

1. Install software
Windows - double click on the install file
Macintosh - drag the folder to your hard drive.
2. Open the file
Windows - start menu
Macintosh - double click on the application file
3. Main Menu Options
Add Teacher - add a new teacher
Observation Form - record data for a new observation
Teacher List - see a list of the observation reports
Teacher Reports - see on-screen report(s) from the observation(s).
Quit - exit the program.
4. Sub Menu Buttons
Main Menu - returns you to the opening screen.
Add Teacher - see above
Print - prints a copy of the report
New Observe - see Observation Form above
Report View - provides an on-screen report
Teacher List - see above
Delete - deletes the record - this is permanent
Quit - see above
Show All - used after a find to make all observations available for viewing.
Find - allows for rapid viewing of observation(s) for a particular teacher or date. Enter first name,
last name, and/or date, then press the enter/return key to view the on-screen report.
Add a teacher
Record basic data on the teacher prior to the
observation. This information only needs to be entered
once for each teacher. The ID Number is automatically
entered. Type in first name, last name, address, city,
state, zip, phone number, and email address.
When you finished, you can click on “new” to enter
another teacher.
Teacher List
This option shows a list of all observation. It includes last name, first name, and observation date.
Clicking on

sorts the data.
shows the on-screen report.
Clicking on delete removes the observation data.
This is permanent.
Observation: Data Collection Form
Start of Observation
Select the teacher from the drop down menu.
Select date from the calendar.
Enter the number of students present in the class.
Enter the period number.
There are three tally fields toward the bottom of the screen.
Type in a name for each field as needed. The tallies record
frequency. Each click on a tally button adds one to the total.
Feedback
Click on general, specific, correct, negative, positive, congruent,
incongruent, and/or behavior for each feedback. See
definitions on page two.
On Task
Select a number from the left column (tens place), then select a
number from the right column (ones place). Finally, be sure
to click on Submit. You may enter a number as often as you
like. Typically, this data is collected every five minutes.

Use of time
Click on start as soon as the lesson begins. Then, immediately
click on an activity. Typically, this will be management (e.g.,
attendance). Throughout the lesson click on the activity as
it changes. If you forget which activity you have selected, it
is fine to click on it again. At the completion of the lesson,
click on End - this will end the data collection and show an
on-screen report.
Trials
Trials refer to the opportunity to practice a skill. You can collect
data on five students.

Inc. not later than 5 days after the end of such 30-day period, the dealer shall, at the dealer's option, either repair
or replace the diskette. The warranty is in lieu of all other express or statutory warranties, and the duration of
any implied warranty, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a
particular purpose, is hereby limited to said 30 day period. Bonnie's Fitware Inc.'s liability is limited solely
