Lake Fenton High School
2013 Flint AIA Building Award WINNER 817 East Kearsley Street Flint, Michigan 48503 Phone: 810-767-5600 Fax: 810-767-1650 www.THA-Flint.com BEFORE Lake Fenton High School Lake Fenton Community Schools Location: Linden, Michigan Owner: Lake Fenton Community Schools Project Cost: $19.1 Million of a $30.3 Million Bond Issue Square Footage: 151,442 SF The design of the new Lake Fenton High School is predicated upon creating environments that respond to the diverse and often competing activities of a high school. Site elements such as landscaped berms, ecological ponds, and wild flower areas have been carefully placed to soften the residential streetscapes. The building itself outstretches its arms to embrace the serenity of the streetscape, as well as to conceal the active side of the site. Hidden behind the classroom wings are bus drives, parking lots, and student congregating areas with athletic fields, tennis courts and practice areas situated beyond. Just as the site has been arranged to separate the serene from the active area, the school’s floor plan has been designed to separate passive study from active learning. In the center, a two-story high entrance hall with twin stairways transforms itself into the student commons, separating the gym, music and auditorium functions on the active side from the learning facilities on the quiet side. Key Features • Seeking LEED® Certification • High-efficiency, geothermal heating and cooling system with radiant heat in apparatus bays. • State-of-the-art command center with emergency generator. • Underground storm water management. • Highly durable materials designed for long life and low maintenance costs.
