PLANT AUCTION JUNE 2ND
resident’s Message
Time has flown by and we’re 6 months into the New Year. I
realize that now is the time for us all to be working on our gardens
making sure that we our planting exactly what we have been waiting
for since winter.
Memorial Day has passed so I believe that we are safe to start our
planting.
I would also like to say many thanks to everyone who gave their
time during the plant sale. We did fairly well during this sale.
Also at our board meeting we voted to support Millcreek Park for
the upcoming fall seminar. We will donate fifteen hundred dollars as
a day sponsor.
We want to get with all scholarship winners very soon to present
their awards.
We all hope that Dan Miller is on a fast road to recovery and are
looking forward to his return.
Don’t forget our picnic plant sale will be June 4th at Boardman
Park. The club will supply beverages and everyone is asked to bring a
dish and a reminder to bring your own silverware and dishes.
We also will be selling many different types of plants to highest
bidder, so if you have any additional plants that you may not want feel
free to bring them also.

On Wednesday, June 4th at 5:30 PM
the Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown
will be holding their annual Plant Auction
at Boardman Park.
The cost is: your favorite casserole or
potato salad or pasta salad or spinach salad or blueberry
pie or rhubarb pie or chocolate pie or coconut cream
pie or all of the above.
It would also be very beneficial for the club if you
would bring something for the auction - anything from
vegetable plants plants, herbs, flowers, trees, bushes or
weeds. Set-up is at 5:30 or a little earlier if you have a lot
to bring in for the auction. We will try to have Rodney,
the auctioneer (if I remember to ask him) say grace at
6:00 PM.
This is one of our more fun events, since there is
relatively little work involved and great eats. As usual
you need to bring your own place settings (plate knife
fork and spoon). Coffee, pop, water and cold cuts will
be provided by the club.

MASCO Greenhouse Spring Plant Sale
Thanks to all who helped out selling and/or purchasing
plants. Thursday’s sales were better than ever thanks
to the efforts from many of our club members. The
plants and baskets were in top condition. The tip top
shape of our plants and baskets certainly helped customer purchases. We noticed many of our club members at the sale. If
you missed this year’s sale, you missed a good one. Make a note to attend next year’s sale, and bring a friend. You may be
surprised what your club can do when we work together.

The purpose of The Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown is to create a better
understanding of gardening and to encourage and promote the beautification
of our community. In order to meet this endeavor, several civic projects are
completed each year.
Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the D. D.
Davis Center at Fellows Riverside Garden. Members receive a monthly newsletter,
“The Germinator,” which has timely gardening hints, club news and other local
and regional horticultural events. Members also become members of The National
Men’s Garden Club of America.
Membership is open to residents of the Mahoning Valley and surrounding
communities with an interest in gardening.
