Recent Events
Hoehn Mercedes-Benz Visit in Carlsbad

Mr. Bill Hoehn and General Manager Chris Truman rolled out
the red carpet for the San Diego Section on Saturday January 14.
We were greeted by Reed Kaelin, Sales Director, Dave Cram, the
Service Director, and key members of the Service Department.
After greetings and introductions we were ushered into the lounge
for a delightful lunch from Tip Top Meat the German Grocery and
Restaurant in Carlsbad. Some of you may recall our Section
having dinner there a few times and they have catered several of
our Oktoberfest events. The food was excellent as usual.
After lunch we were divided into two groups to tour the facility. Reed
Kaelin from the sales department gave us a nice briefing on the Mercedes
-Benz line of automobiles. She was very informative in her knowledge of
the Mercedes-Benz product and answered numerous questions about the
new models available and what is
coming in the future. Reed answered
many questions about the MercedesLunch Time
Benz diesel model line and what is
expected in the future for the marque. It is always a pleasure to meet a sales
representative who knows the product and can suggest what model might fit your
needs. There is a huge difference between a car sales person and a professional
sales representative. Reed is a member of the MBCA and the San Diego Section.

The second group was escorted to the service bays by Dennis Williams, the Shop Foreman, and Service
Consultant Ziggy Von Rathmann (aka Dr. Ziggy). Yes, he is the same Dr Ziggy who had a Mercedes-Benz shop in
San Diego for many years. Dr. Ziggy is now on the Hoehn team. I was
surprised to see a 2012 E63 AMG in the service bay next to a 1983 240D!
So, I guess we can say that Hoehn works on the older cars. I continue to
be amazed by the technology that has to be used to maintain and trouble
shoot the late model Mercedes-Benz automobiles. This does not apply
solely to Mercedes-Benz but, it is not uncommon on some of the more
so-called exotic cars to require engine removal just to change spark plugs
and other routine maintenance. The maintenance bays at Hoehn are more
akin to an operating room than what I call a garage. Having said that it is
important to note that Hoehn can also work on our older Star Cars. As

Hoehn Mercedes-Benz has supported our Club for many years and the San Diego Section greatly appreciates this
support. The Service Department is not open on Saturdays so all of the people who were there for us came in on their
day off. This is a clear indication of their willingness to support the MBCA and the San Diego Section. We are

Used but in excellent condition. Beautiful flint grey exterior with stunning black nappa leather interior and black birdseye maple wood trim. Hand built AMG 6.3L 32-valve DOHC naturally-aspirated V-8 engine, 507 hp / 465 ft-lb
torque. Fully loaded including P02 Premium II package plus other options listed below. This car goes 0-60 in 4
seconds, yet gives you 14 city MPG and 20 highway MPG. Practical and tremendous driving vehicle. This is a very
rare vehicle and was only available by special order in the US. Only 40,800 miles. Car always garaged, never seen

Section President’s Message
With 2011 now far in the rear view mirror, it is time to look forward to this year and everything
that we and other Sections have planned. The events of note are that this year StarFest ® will be
in Phoenix and I intend to attend and take a very active part. If you are intending to go to the
prestigious Classic Car Week shows and Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, you need to have
somewhere to stay; and if it is not booked by now, I would suggest you do so very soon. Talking
of Monterey, “Legends of the Autobahn” will be there again and well worth a visit. The rest of the
stuff for this year is pretty much finalized and the calendar dates will be published very soon.
One last thing, we have a new web master (Tom Richards) and he will be working very hard
with National as we move to our new Mercedes-Benz branded and sanctioned web site. Thanks
Tom for stepping up and taking over a job that I hate.
