Dear Family of Grange,
Welcome back to another busy week at Grange.
Drumming Year 4
With the start of the new term, our Year Four pupils have started their
percussion sessions with Sandra and Pauline.
Our children are learning how to play djembe
drums.
The djembe (pronounced JEM-bay) is one of
the most versatile and widespread percussion
instruments on the planet. Its huge popularity
is down to the fact that it can create an unusually wide range of pitches, namely the bass (low), tone (medium) and slap (high). These
sounds are created by striking different areas of the djembe skin with
the hands.
Class Assemblies
Parents and carers, take note of the next two class assembly dates:
Venus Class: Friday, 29th January 2016
Mercury Class; Friday, 5th February 2016
For a prompt start please be in school by 9:05 a.m. Thank you!
Cold Weather Warning
NHS has issued a Level 3 cold weather action, with the expectation
of a 99% probability of severe cold weather, icy conditions and heavy
snow between 0900 on Thursday 14 Jan and 1200 on Tuesday 19
Jan in parts of England. There is a 90% probability of risk for London,
it is expected to turn colder with possible sleet and snow showers at
times but generally a good deal of dry weather. The lowest
temperatures are expected to occur over the weekend and into early
next week. For more information, please visit:

English
The children are beginning to look at a new story called ‘The
Journey Home’ by Fran Preston-Gannon. They will be making
posters, using fact sheets and learning new vocabulary such
as ‘noun phrases’ and ‘statements, exclamations, questions
and commands’.

RE
Last week Year 2 loved Buddhism Day. A highlight was using
the ‘wheel of life‘ to help them with their 8 x table through
using repeated addition.
PE
The children have been increasing their activity this week
through using ‘GoNoodle’ for activity breaks. They have also
started Dance and this week linked RE by learning an Indian
Dance.
Be The Best You Can Be
This week Year 2 have been embracing the ‘Be The Best You
Can Be’ theme. They will be linking this to New Years resolutions and thinking about a ‘plan B’ if their original career does
not take off!
