As I reflect on the year gone by, I consider how
blessed I am to be able to count so many of you
as dear friends and regard myself incredibly
fortunate to have you as, mentors, role models,
respected business people, leaders and pioneers.
All of you have influenced me in your respective
and unique ways.
Someone once said, “You only live once, but if
you do it correctly, once is more than enough”!
Wise words indeed and upon reflection, very true. You do only live once
and your career and commitments to your passionate organizations are no
exceptions, and if you do it correctly, one working life is more than enough.

I have been exposed to so many opportunities for my professional and Chapter Calendar
personal growth. Challenges were set before me and the SACC Chamber,
TIMELESS COLLECTIONS!
but they were underpinned by the support of this group and their belief
DOUGLAS CHRISMAS
that it could have been done. My warmest thanks to everyone on the SACC
board and our Trigger Team leader Linda Cain.
My lovely, dedicated, dynamic, beautiful wife, Angelle Grace… I love you
with all my heart and am grateful for all you do, and how you personally
evolved this Chamber into what it is today. Every event has been not only
enriching but filled with joy and love featuring magical and spectacular
speakers, honorees and entertainment.
Well, they say that the down side of retirement is having to drink coffee
on your own time. I thought I might be looking forward to a little more of
my own time, but as UBS missed me so much, they simply had to get me
back and I have joined them for the THIRD time. Angelle Grace and I will
be looking forward to concentrating on servicing my life long, loyal clients
and beloved friends. I will also continue to thrust forward serving on
the Mayo Clinic’s Global Advisory Council, Providence St. John’s Health
Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Center, CalArts and my continued
involvement with the LA Opera.
I look forward to having more time with my wife, Angelle Grace, and I
look forward to my coffee breaks being cut short for a lot more home
town loving!
To all of my friends, keep living this one life correctly and keep smiling.
You will all be forever in my heart. May God bless you.

Dear Roger
Finding the right congratulatory words in a farewell ambiance is not an easy task. The muse of my
inspiration was the image of the everlasting smile shining over your optimist and open personality. It helped
me to start in designing some of the traits appreciated by the people you served for the past twenty five
years, and to draw the first “Thank you Roger!”
I am convinced that the enthusiasm which you offered the Los Angeles Chapter of the Swiss American
Chamber of Commerce exhaled from the L.A. vibrant and glamorous spirit, combined with the seriousness
and humor emerging from your Basel roots. Thank you for having so eagerly placed your art of networking
at the service of the Swiss-US business community. I wish to convey the gratitude of businesspeople of
both countries which found in your Chapter, “the” place to meet – a friendly and unique environment - to
enable to develop business relations, to add notes to the concert of opportunities offered by the welcoming
country you chose to live in.
“Forever Chairman”
Thank you also for your support to the Swiss Consul Generals who were appointed in L.A. during the last
two decades, with the goal to consolidate or to build new bridges between Switzerland and the Far West. I
am personally grateful for having been (and still being) able to take advantage of the expertise one can
reach through your openness.
My love, we send you God’s blessings and gratitude for your
tremendous passion, leadership and commitment to the SwissAmerican Chamber of Commerce. It is an honor to be your
wife and children. We are excited to see what this new phase
of your life holds for you, Chairman Emeritus.
Please accept my sincere gratitude, also in the name of the Swiss authorities, for your engagement which
contributed to maintain the excellent relations existing between Switzerland and the United States, and to
foster a better mutual understanding out of Southern California.
I wish you and your charming and supportive wife, Angelle, a brilliant future in your professional and private
environment.
Yours Sincerely,
Jean-François Lichtenstern
Consul General of Switzerland

Our newest US Citizen, Mr. Roger Wacker introduced the 2015
SACC Board of Directors, all of whom are busy working on a
promising year of events.
The only things more beautiful than the people in Los Angeles
are the cars we drive. Our first guests are experts in the field
of luxury automobiles found in the O’Gara Coach showroom.
Brand Manager, Llewyn Jobe and Sales Specialist Aida
Avadisian told us the extra steps they take in order to keep
their customers happy. As a valued client you may find yourself
flying on a Gulfstream jet or driving on a professional racetrack. As Mr. Wacker joked, “you will
go in for a catalog and end up with a Bentley.”
Our next guest is familiar to most Angelenos, if not by face, then by name.
Mr. Gil Garcetti, spent 32 years as a prosecutor with the LA County District Attorney’s office
and was the elected DA 1992-2000, overseeing such notable cases as the Menendez brothers
and O.J. Simpson. His son, Eric Garcetti, is the current Mayor of Los Angeles. He is a frequent
keynote speaker and in April 2014 was sworn in as a UNESCO-IHE Cultural Ambassador
bringing global awareness to the issue of safe water.
Wondering what to do next in 2000 at age 58, Garcetti told us of his career change inspired by
The Walt Disney Concert Hall. One day after leaving City Hall he was mesmerized by a brave
steel worker, the “Bolter Upper,” who was perched 120 feet above the construction of Disney
Hall. The beauty of the raw steel captured his eye and he began to take several photographs.
This work became Garcetti’s first published photography book in 2002, Iron: Erecting The
Walt Disney Concert Hall. Much to his surprise,
The Los Angeles Times loved it and when a law
firm offered to pay $20,000 for 12 photos his art
career was launched.
Garcetti’s most recent photo book, Japan: A
Reverence for Beauty, was released in December
2014. The book is aptly named, as Garcetti
captures both the beauty of his subjects and the
sense of awe that draws the observer in: the simple
beauty of a leaf suspended in a spider web, a
manhole cover, a Ginko tree. Garcetti has a keen

eye for shape, shadow and form and an appreciation of Japan’s ceremonies and rituals. Check
out his beautiful work at http://www.garcetti.com.
Swiss-born designer and photography Raffael Dickreuter has worked on many of our favorite
movies such as Avengers, 2: Age of Ultron, Man of Steel, The Hunger Games, Terminator
Salvation, Captain America: Winter Soldier, The Incredible Hulk, Superman Returns, Iron
Man and others. His diverse professional background includes film visual effects, design, web,
advertising and photography. He told us how honored he was to work with Steven Spielberg.
Check out his impressive portfolio at http://www.raffael3d.com
The music of Alec Millstein and his band Millstein Music capped off our evening of glamour.

HARMONIZATION OF COFFEE, WINE AND FOOD
NESPRESSO BOUTIQUE, BEVERLY HILLS, CA
APRIL 22, 2015
!
!
The room was abuzz with spirited conversations
at the special April gathering of the Swiss
American Chamber of Commerce in Beverly Hills.
The delicious wines, hors d’oeuvres and espresso
served at the Nespresso Boutique helped fuel the
casual evening of meeting and networking with
new and old friends.
The evening began with welcoming remarks by
host Giancarlo Pala of Nestle, Nespresso’s parent
company; Tricia Miller, Nespresso Manager
of Regional Boutiques West; Jeffrey Evans,
Boutique Manager, Bevery Hills Boutique; and our very own Consul General of Switzerland
in Los Angeles, Jean-Francois Lichtenstern. Guests were encouraged to write postcards to
themselves about their favorite Swiss memories.
One highlight of the evening included participation in the theme, “Harmonzation of Coffee,
Wine and Food,” where guests cleansed their palates with freshly brewed Nespresso Arpeggio
espresso, then sampled Perugina Dark Chocolate Truffles, followed by a delicious sampling of
Terrazas Malbec 2012. The three flavors combined were a sensory experience.
Guests were also encouraged to design their own
lattes, which were judged by Ilona Casellini from Swiss
Quality Smile and Roger Wacker, Credit Suisse. The
lucky winner of this contest was Chafik Lahzami, whose
Swiss and American flag drawing won over the judges.
He won a Nespresso Vertuoline coffee and espresso
machine. The other lucky winner of a Nespresso
Vertuoline machine from a random drawing of all
guests was Rene Lagler.
Thank you to Ilona Casellini, Tilmann Gruber, Giancarlo Pala and committee members for a
memorable evening.

The members of SACC were privileged to hear
from two very unique businessmen who help
make Los Angeles an international cultural
destination.
Douglas Chrismas started his career in
Vancouver, Canada in 1961 where at the age
of 17 he opened his first frame shop and art
gallery. During the following years the gallery
grew mounting exhibitions of such important
artists as Warhol, Lichtenstein, Rauschenberg,
Nauman, and Serra who were considered the
hot young artists at that time. The gallery expanded to Los Angeles in 1967 on Andy Warhol’s
advice, making it one of the city’s longest running galleries and then further expanded to New
York in 1994. The galleries were noted for doing museum-level exhibitions by up and coming
and also world-renowned artists. Under his directorship, Ace Gallery has had either offices
or galleries in such important art centers as Mexico City, Paris, Berlin and Beijing along with
its strong position in Los Angeles. Mr. Chrismas’ ability to create architectural spaces for
contemporary art of our time became well known. He is credited with creating the first White
Cube contemporary art space as we know it today. All Ace gallery spaces have been designed by
Mr. Chrismas.
“Chrismas’ galleries aren’t just big, they’re beautiful. “Everyone is always bowled over by
Doug’s great sense of theater and presentation,” says artist and gallerist Cliff Benjamin. “It’s
like entering the Vatican when you walk into one of his galleries — you can’t help but say wow.”
Chrismas said, “The thing that excites me is enabling artists to feel loose and free in their
approach to doing an exhibition, and the way you do that is by giving them space.””
(LA Weekly, Oct 2003)
Peter Schuler is an independent watchmaker with more than 35 years serving at the same
location in Beverly Hills, CA. He is an expert in the field of repairing luxury timepieces, with
lots of knowledge on all brands of watches. Mr. Schuler keeps his finger on the pulse of the
watch industry giving his clients high quality service on the premises. Mr. Schuler works with
fine watch specialist Mr. Rafael Carrasco, an expert on complicated watches (Minute Repeater,
Chronograph and Perpetual Calendar as an example). Together the two of them now form a
great team to give you the ultimate in fine timepiece repair and upkeep.
Thank you to both men for sharing their unique talents with us.

Mayo Clinic Diet.
Dr. Hensrud advised us in his YouTube video to avoid trendy diets, like Paleo. While they have
some benefits, we aren’t able to eat the same quality of food as our ancestors. He warns that
coconut oil is not a magic potion as not enough scientific evidence has been done yet.
Dr. Hensrud said “People should keep it simple. Vegetables, fruits, whole grains such as whole
wheat bread, whole grain pasta, brown rice and oatmeal; heart healthy fats like nuts and olive
oil are good and have shown to have health benefits; leans sources of protein, fish, meat and
low fat dairy products should balance your diet.”
Dr. Sally Ho received her B.S. degree in Physical
Therapy from the National Taiwan University, her
M.S. degree in Physical Therapy from the Medical
College of Virginia, and the advanced doctorate
degree in Physical Therapy from the University of
Southern California, California.
Dr. Ho is an adjunct associate professor in the

and lectured both nationally and internationally. She is heavily involved in clinical practice,
education and research for the betterment of the Physical Therapy profession.
Dr. Ho is an American Physical Therapy Association board certified Orthopedic Clinical
Special Specialist (OCS). Her specialty is in the area of head, neck, and Temporomandibular
joint disorders; with that said, her expertise extends beyond her specialty to include general
orthopedic and neurological conditions.
Dr. Ho founded her company in 1981 with the vision to provide the best quality care to all
patients who are in need of physical therapy. Under her administration, Ho Physical Therapy
has been the most stable and reputable practice in the Beverly Hills area for more than 30 years.
Mr. Treavor Burd was fresh off his win with partner Brad Funk of one of US Sailing’s most
intriguing championships, the Championship of Champions, hosted by Gulfport, MS Yacht Club.
Originally from Marblehead, MA, Trevor grew up sailing at Pleon Yacht Club. Originally
in Optimist, he moved into the Club 420, where he fell in love with crewing preferring the
physical and technical sides of sailing. Trevor moved into faster and faster boats such as the
505 and the F18 catamaran before making the step into the 49er in 2010. He also sailed in
college at Boston University, serving as captain in his senior year. Beyond sailing, Trevor
enjoys all sorts of competition along with cooking and working out.

CHRISTINE AVANTI-FISCHER, NUTRITIONIST, AUTHOR AND ACTIVIST
REUVEN MEIR, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, N.A., AMERICAN FRIENDS OF
TEL-AVIV, THE JAFFA INSTITUTE
NOVEMBER 19, 2015
As a fitting start to our November meeting, Chairman
Mr. Roger Wacker, began the meeting by thanking
the gracious waiting staff of the Beverly Hills Hotel
Polo Lounge, many of whom have been serving the
SACC for 10 years.
Mr. Wacker offered his congratulations to Mr. Ron
Hirt, who will be the new Chairman of the Swiss
American Chamber of Commerce in 2016. He
introduced the Board of Directors and thanked the
SACC staff for all of their hard work.
Special guests in attendance included Mr. Martin Naville, CEO, Swiss American Chamber of
Commerce, who gave the group an update on the continuing positive relationship between
Swiss and American businesses; Noah Stutz, the youngest licensed Top Fuel Driver in the
world; Alan Johnson, 15 time World Drag Racing Champion; and Rabbi David Baron, founder
and president of the Committee for Righteous Deeds, who chaired and co-produced the History
Channel Documentary “Diplomats for the Damned,” which featured the heroism of Swiss
Diplomat Carl Lutz.
Mr. Reuven Meir, Executive Director, N. A., of The Jaffa Institute, showed a brief film about all
of the positive projects his organization is doing to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty
and save the lives of disadvantaged youth in Israel. Each year, the Jaffa Institute provides
service and relief to 4,000 citizens. A $1000 donation provides services to one child for one year.
Mr. Wacker presented Mr. Meir with an Award from the SACC in appreciation of his work.
Christine Avanti is a published author, nutritionist, classically trained chef, former model,
activist and philanthropist. She is the author of 4 books, two of which are best sellers; Skinny

Foundation) to provide “a hand up” with Education, Human Trafficking Rescue, Medical
Needs, Water Projects, and Animal Rights.
Ms. Avanti strives to help empower women to pursue their dreams. She told of her first visit
to Haiti, where a woman was so hopeless that she tried to give Ms. Avanti her child. She
works with Free the Children in Haiti and goes there twice a year to continue her work. She
is very proud that their efforts have helped provide 40 schoolrooms with a 350% increase in
enrollment and over 20,000 with clean water. Mr. Wacker presented a SACC Award to Ms.
Avanti for her impressive philanthropic efforts.
Mr. Stanley Gold, Chairman of the Board of Shamrock Holdings, Inc., a privately owned
Burbank, California-based investment company and Of Counsel at the law firm of Gang, Tyre,
Ramer & Brown, Inc., is undoubtedly one of Los Angeles’ most successful businessmen. His
true passion is as an auto endurance rally driver.
Mr. Gold regaled the audience with his story about the 2013 Peking to Paris Motor Challenge,
the longest and toughest challenge anyone can drive in a vintage or classic car driving through
some of the remotest places on earth. Mr. Gold participated with partner Brant Parsons in a
1965 Porsche 911. The 2013 Peking to Paris route drives from China, through Mongolia, then
into Russia and westwards to the Ukraine, Slovakia and Europe on route to the triumphal
finish in Paris.
Through his film and notes, Mr. Gold called his 33-day journey “a life-changing experience.”
Everything they needed from auto equipment to personal supplies had to be in or on the
vehicle. He learned to overcome hardships, problems and discomfort. Mr. Gold and Mr.
Parsons received a Bronze medal for their efforts. He also received a SACC Award for his efforts
from Mr. Wacker.
Mr. Gold left many members of the audience eager to sign up for the 28-day Rally of the Incas
from Buenos Aries to Lima next November.
Thank you to all our speakers and guests who reminded us of the many ways to “Celebrate Life!”

Ms. Avanti’s resume is a shining example of her
hard work and passion. At age 26 she started
her own company, Christine Avanti, Inc., as a
Nutrition Counselor, Private Chef, Author, Weight
Loss Coach and Fitness Coach. But her true
passion is philanthropy, values she learned from
her grandfather, whom she was very close to.
It is a passion she shares with her husband,

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY GALA 2014
The 2014 Holiday party was held at the festively decorated Beverly Hills Hotel and was an
