Eucharistic Ministers
I would first, like to inform you, that because of ill health, that has become worse, I will no longer be the director of the Eucharistic Ministers, effective
July 1, 2016. I will however be continuing in my Ministry as Deacon to the parish of St Joseph
It has been a pleasure to have worked with such wonderful ministers here at St Joseph Parish, for the past 6 years as the director and the past 10 years
as a Deacon. I mean this sincerely, and cannot thank you enough for all the Mass cards, phone calls etc., while I have been fighting cancer, these past 3
years.
At this time it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you, our new director of Eucharistic Ministers, Mrs Alice Becker Searles. Alice has been a lector
and Eucharistic Minister for many years and is a member of the Parish Council and is very active with the Ladies of Charity, and other organizations in
the parish. I ask that you give the same respect, kindness, and cooperation to Alice as you gave to me.
Again, thanks for all your help, Deacon Bob.
I will be making up the new schedule with Alice. I ask you to please submit any dates, when you will be away on vacation, etc. and cannot be available to
perform your duty as a Eucharistic Minister. The new schedule will go into effect from the first Sunday in July, up to the Sunday before Christmas.
Please submit any dates that you know of ASAP but, no LATER than MAY 31, 2016. You may submit them in writing and leave it in my mailbox at the
rectory, or call me at home and leave a message on my phone (914) 779-7845.
The following 9 New Eucharistic Ministers will be installed at the 12:00pm Mass, on Sunday, June 5, 2016 by Fr Peter McGeory: Frances J Bergold, Kate
Corey, Allison Coyne, Sandra Dwyer, Michael Duffy, Sheila Gerard, Mary Angela Kennedy, Mary Lemanski and Dawn McMahon.

MASS FOR THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK
WHY DO WE HAVE THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK?
There are times when the Church, like Jesus, has a message that cannot be put into words.
Illness and the declining strength of old age are such times.
Healing was at the heart of Jesus’ ministry, and He wanted it continued by His Disciples.
IN MARK’S GOSPEL WE READ:
JESUS SUMMONED THE TWELVE AND BEGAN TO SEND THEM OUT
TWO BY TWO…THEY EXPELLED MANY DEMONS, ANOINTED THE SICK
WITH OIL, AND WORKED MANY CURES. (Mk 6:7-13)
The Church today continues this healing ministry of Jesus in the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
WHO MAY RECEIVE THE SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK?
Those who are seriously or chronically ill or weakened by old age
A common sense understanding of “serious” is all that is required.
You do not need doctor’s lines.
Do you have a need in body, mind, or soul for Christ’s healing touch and the prayers of the Church?
Then please make a special effort to come and share this celebration with us.
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick
Will be administered at a special Mass on
Saturday, June 11th at 12:00pm
THE MOST HOLY BODY & BLOOD OF CHRIST
“As the day was drawing to a close, the twelve approached him and said: ‘Dismiss the crowd so they
can go to the surrounding villages and farms and find lodging and provisions, for we are in a deserted
place here.’ He said to them, ‘Give them some food yourselves.’ They replied, ‘Five loaves and two fish
are all we have, unless we ourselves go and buy food for all these people.’ They all ate and were
satisfied.”
The celebration today sets us apart as Catholics. We do not only recall how Jesus fed the multitude
but Luke offers us a glimpse of the action which takes place at every mass. He tells us 1. Jesus took
the loaves and fish, 2. Looked up, raising His eyes in prayer, 3. Said the blessing, 4. Broke the bread, a
sign of sharing, and 5. Gave it to the disciples for them to share. Not just for them to eat but for all.
Imagine the wonder and awe, as people saw what was happening and then were fed. Surely it made a
great impact.
We come to Eucharist and the same Christ, in the person of the priest, consecrates elements of bread
and wine, because we need to satisfy our hunger. I must ask myself, if the gift of Eucharist produces
the same effect in me? Do I recognize the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist? Do I hunger to
receive the gift the Lord has provided for me? Does my encounter with Christ in the Eucharist produce
a unity, a oneness, which is what communion means?
On this special feast I pray that my devotion to Christ in the Eucharist may be revived. May I connect it
with my First Holy Communion. I recall a small sign in my church which told the priest ‘Celebrate this
Mass as if it were your first Mass.’ Celebrate it as if it were your last Mass.

CANDLE OF REMEMBRANCE
An excellent way to remember a special loved one is to memorialize our Easter Candle.
The Paschal Candle is lit during every Sunday Mass from the Easter Vigil Mass through Ascension Thursday.
It also burns brightly at every Baptism and at every Funeral Mass.
The Easter Candle for 2016 will burn throughout the year thanks to Pino and Katherine Kinkella in memory of Grace Kinkella
