having just the most
necessary things for living in

A Midsummer Night’s Levitation
of an Entrepreneur above
11 a Kurzeme Blue Cow
Aigars Bikše
A legend about the secret of success and vitality of Kurzeme
residents. Every Midsummer’s Night, one should sleep on
a Kurzeme blue cow’s back, concentrating on the cow and
tuning in to reception of divine healing energy. If the act
of meditation is successful, one manages to levitate above
the cow for a moment and the next year proves to be highly
productive in all the aspects.
12
Stone Cow
Vija Zariņa
A cow is an artifact
equivalent to Latvia’s
and Kurzeme region’s
persistently monumental
rock, stone, comprising a
synthesis of permanent
archetypal qualities.

In 2012, marking the 10th anniversary of the “Cow Parade
Ventpils 2002” events, Ventspils streets, squares and
parks once again gave home to 24 colourful and diverse
participants of “Cow Parade Ventspils 2012”. After the charity
auction the cows have moved to their new owners, but some
of them still delight the residents and guests of Ventspils.
All in all there are nineteen of them.
Evergreen Cow
Robertas Antinis (Lithuania)
Cow as a natural phenomenon symbolizing ecology.
The evergreen unity and harmony between flora and fauna.
16
In 2002, Ventspils hosted the Cow Parade 2002, which is
one of the largest and most successful public art events in
the world. 26 natural-size glass fibre cows were then turned
into spectacular works of art and sold in a charity auction.
Six exhibits from this Cow Parade in Ventspils are still
remnant in the city.
Three Popular Cows
Raimonds Kalējs and the people
Art belongs to the people, and everybody is entitled to become
a co-author of artwork. The ability to see creative, academically
unspoilt beauty in nature is each individual’s spiritual gift, which,
in this case, can be expressed on the Flower Cow’s sides in any
compositional solution of natural forms.
