Abstract
Time honoured cast, roll and blank production processes are used to produce high
quality precious metal coin blanks.
This presentation will investigate how CAD/CAM series production with CNC, robot
handling and highly compressed material, producing a fine recrystallization
structure is adding a new dimension to these techniques.
This is opening the way for new finished coin possibilities to Mints around the world.

Fine gold 999.9 or fine silver 999.9 is loaded into the continuous caster, melted and
cast.

The cast material is rolled, annealed as required and passed through a swaging / hammering
process to smooth the sides of the rods improving grain structure.

The rods are then cut to the near net length required as per the specifications.

The cylinders are packed into cartridges and loaded into the Robot Tec equipment.
This process comprises of automated turning, weighing and final finishing.
Once loaded the machine can run "lights out“ with no manual intervention required.
Each cylinder or blank takes less then 60 seconds to produce.
