Chairman’s Message
The Chinese proverb says, time is like an arrow.
With the AGM 2013 over a year ago, the Chinese
wisdom of a few thousand years does reveal that
time waits for no man, and before anyone realizes
it, it is AGM 2014 already!

I must thank all the members for their trust and
good faith in returning me as the Chairman for
another term. As I mentioned during the AGM, I am
but the driver behind the seat, and I require the
machinery of the Chapter to work efficiently and as
a team, in order to move forward with a purpose.
With the smooth election on the office bearer's post
in the AGM, I believe that a sustainable working
committee to continue with the Chapter's policies
will be ensured and entrusted.
The nominations of Ar. Ho Jia Lit, Ar. Yong Ming
Cheong and Ar. Sim Sie Hong into the Chapter
Committee is important to ensure the Committee
is further blessed with members who are very
experienced, in assisting us in facing the many
challenges ahead, as well as to impact their
valuable experience to the younger members, in
our cultivation and grooming for future leadership.

IPEX & Ideal Home Show (1st to 4th May 2014)
Press release dated 3rd May 2014 (News Sabah Times)
Good city planning and management are needed in order to reduce
the number of cars on the road as we gear towards creating liveable
and sustainable cities, said Ar. Victor Wong, Chairman of Pertubuhan
Akitek Malaysia (PAM) Sabah Chapter.
He further said that the traffic jam in the State Capital is getting
worse despite proper planning and zoning in the Kota Kinabalu
Local Plan 2020.
He believed that the traffic snarls could be resolved if the
development of residence, offices and commercial shops are
clustered together within a short radius to enable the public
transport to be brought in and eliminate the needs for the citizens to
buy cars unnecessarily.
“What is happening now in our cities is the lack of integration in the
implementation of the different developments and in bringing a
public transport system to serve the needs of the clusters,” said
Victor at the launching of•IPEX 2014•at the Sabah Trade Centre
here yesterday.
The event was officiated by Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s
Department Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah. Victor also urged the
authorities to discourage and review city planning that is based on
car ownership. “Instead, the city planning should provide an
alternative choice for its citizens to choose their mode of
transportation such as by foot, bicycles or an organised public
transport system,” he said.
“We must consider the options to resolve our current woes
economically, through good city planning and management while
waiting for the monorail to materialise which need an enormous
amount of financial resources,” advised Victor.
He also suggested to the authorities to encourage mixed
development in terms of housing, commercial, sports &
recreational, education and industrial over a cluster of project so
that the public transport system within these cluster could be
organized accordingly.
