Awesome!

July 2015
I thought you would like to know...
On May 28, 2015, Meals
on Wheels Plus hosted
our 40th Anniversary
with a celebration at the
Abilene Civic Center.
We started planning this
event over a year ago,
and were excited that
Dr. Ben Carson agreed
to come to Abilene and
be our keynote speaker.
Hearing him tell the story of his life in his
presentation, “Gifted
Hands,” was very moving. You could hear a pin
drop.
Thank you Doug Williamson, for serving as
Master of Ceremonies,
and to Scott Dueser,
for serving as Honorary
Chairman. You are both
a “class act.”
A special thank you goes
to Wayne McCormick
and KTXS-TV for producing a video that managed to capture 40 years
of history in a mere seven minutes. Thank you
to the Abilene Reporter
News, and all the advertisers, who made the 12

Betty L. Bradley, LBSW
Executive Director
Thank you to a caring
community who feed at
risk, frail adults by delivering meals and making
financial gifts. With your
ongoing support, Meals
on Wheels can continue
to provide meals to
needy people for another 40 years.
We are very short of
volunteers. We need
your help as we drive
away hunger. Call us today, 672-5050, to volunteer to deliver meals.
You can make a difference.

redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you

CRITICAL NEED FOR DELIVERY DRIVERS
This is a cry for help. Meals on Wheels Plus is short some 20
to 30 drivers every delivery day. During the summer months, we
are especially short of volunteers, because the university student
deliverers are out of town for the summer.
If you have never delivered meals, it is easy and very rewarding. It
only takes an hour, one day a week. If you are a current or previous volunteer
driver, we need your help. Can you deliver an additional route or re-enroll as a
driver?
Meals on Wheels Plus, Inc. does
not discriminate on the basis of
age, color, financial status, race,
national origin, sex, creed, disability, religion or political belief.
Special emphasis is given to
homebound seniors and/or adults
with a disability. Meals on Wheels
Plus, Inc. receives partial funding
from the Texas Department of
Aging & Disability Services.
Meals on Wheels Plus is classified as a charitable 501(c)(3)
organization by the IRS. All contributions are tax deductible.
If you are worried about being tied down so you can’t enjoy your own summer
plans, or worried that you can’t always get off work, consider being a
“SUBSTITUTE DRIVER”. Each day, we use substitute drivers to fill open routes.
You can call us on the days you are available to deliver, and our Volunteer Coordinators will assign you a route, or we can call you as routes become open to
see if you are available.
The benefits of being a volunteer are immeasurable. We can assure you that
someone you deliver lunch to will touch, and enrich your life. Many volunteers
tell about clients with whom they have developed a special friendship.
The need is critical. Please call us today at 672-5050 for more information.
