Dr Antonio earned his PhD at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas Texas. As the head of the ISSN, he organizes more conferences than there are chopsticks in a Chinese restaurant. In addition, he teaches full-‐time in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Nova Southeastern University in Davie Florida USA. When he's not drinking coffee, eating copious amounts of white rice or paddling his merry way around the waters of South Florida, he's probably plotting to take over an island off the Florida Keys. As a child of the 70s, he would do reckless things like walk around the neighborhood with his friends with no parental supervision. Sometimes, he'd ride bikes with them and pretend to be Evel Knieval. Since there were no smart phones, he managed to learn how to speak to humans face-‐to-‐face. As a grad student in the 80s and 90s, he'd often spend time reading journal articles poolside. Life was rough, but he volunteered for this job. Fast forward to the early 2000s. One day at a sushi bar in San Francisco, he and his band of merry men and one woman (Douglas Kalman PhD RD, Richard Kreider PhD, Anthony Almada and Susan Kleiner PhD RD) ordered multiple beers and offered the following toast: Here's to the man who is wisest and best. Here's to the man who with judgment is blessed, Here's to the man who's as smart as can be. I drink to the man who agrees with me. Ok. I made that up and stole that poem from someone else. We didn't toast. We just ate a lot of sushi and talked about the ISSN though at the time we didn't really have a name for it. But ASSN just didn't look right. As one of the co-‐founders of the ISSN, he's quite grateful that you took time out of your busy schedule to hang out with a bunch of sports science nerds.
