It was a big night for Hillary Clinton as she secured enough votes
to win the Democratic party’s nomination for president. After her
victory she told her supporters, “It may be hard to see tonight,
but we are all standing under a glass ceiling right now.”
Muhammad Ali was a professional boxer, widely regarded as one of the most significant
and celebrated sporting figures of the 20th century.

Irene Caudillo believes now that Hillary Clinton has been
nominated by her party, it confirms her teaching to her girls. “I

arly Tuesday morning, as
voters took to the polls in
several key states around
the
country,
Hillary
Clinton had already clinched
the Democratic nomination for
the office of President of the
United States, becoming the
first woman to be nominated
for the highest office of the
land. There were no early
celebrations for her. Clinton
wanted to wait until the other
states had the opportunity to
vote for their candidates on
Super Tuesday.
As early as Monday night
she became aware from news
reports that she had reached
the milestone. She told her
supporters in California,“I
got to tell you, according
to the news, we are on the
brink of a historic, historic,
unprecedented moment, but
we still have work to do, don’t
we?” We have six elections
tomorrow (Tuesday), and
we’re going to fight hard for
every single vote, especially
right here in California.”
Sanders, who was also in
California, didn’t acknowledge
that Clinton had clinched the
nomination. Locally, people
took notice of the news reports
claiming Clinton had clinched
the nomination.
Kansas City, Kansas resident
Irene Caudillo told Hispanic
News, “I am motivated and
excited at the Democratic
Party’s nomination. The real
work happens now as we
work to defeat the presumptive
nominee for the Republican
Party. This election needs to
be less about gender, race,
and stereotypes that divide
us, and more about the issues
that affect us all as a country.
Hillary Clinton’s platform has
been consistent on issues
important to me and I am
happy to continue supporting
her and the party.”
Caudillo called the moment
historic, noting it has been over
100 years since women won
the right to vote for a woman
to become the nominee of a
major presidential party.
“As a woman, I am excited
this country stands behind a
competent,
knowledgeable
nominee who supports issues
like healthcare, education,
and immigration reform just to
name few. She can and will
get things done and happens
to be a woman. This says to
all women and the country
what women have known for a
long time, we can do anything
a man can do.
“I have raised my twin
girls to believe they can do
anything they dream by setting
goals and working hard. I
ask them to see their parents,
grandparents
and
family
members as the best examples
of achievement and not let
negative remarks or people
hold them back. This is a
special time because in their
15 years of living, they have
seen a person of color and
soon a woman take the highest
elected office in this country
– President of the United
States. It is special because
they are witnessing history
with little or no awareness
of the discrimination against
diverse groups to get to this
point. Sadly though, we have
spoken about the hate and
discrimination coming from
the other side, but we remain
positive,” added Caudillo.
In her victory speech
in Brooklyn, NY, Hillary
Clinton told thousands of her
supporters, “Thanks to you,
we’ve reached a milestone.
Tonight’s victory is not about
one person. It belongs to
generations of women and
men who struggled and
sacrificed and made this
moment possible. It may be
hard to see tonight, but we
are all standing under a glass
ceiling right now.”

Friday June 3rd in Phoenix, Arizona.
Family spokesman Bob Gunnell
said Ali had been admitted in fair
condition to a hospital, but “things became
more serious,” and then “it became clear that
his condition wasn’t going to improve.”

altogether. Eastern Connecticut State University and
Delaware State University are leading the way
in this unprecedented program to give students
from Missouri and other locked-out states the
opportunity of an affordable college education. Both institutions have the capacity to admit
DREAMer Scholars without depriving any
Connecticut or Delaware state students of the
opportunity to attend these colleges. TheDream.
US Opportunity Scholarship – which is privately
funded - will pay up to $80,000 to help fund
the costs of tuition, fees, on-campus housing and
meals for these DREAMers to earn a bachelor’s
degree.

Alleged sexual
assault in bathroom
KCMO police are investigating an alleged
sexually assault on a 12-year-old girl in a bathroom
at the Tony Aguirre Community Center. According
to the young girl, she is saying two teenage boys
touched her inappropriately and would not let her
leave. According to police the young boys told them
that the girl went into the bathroom voluntarily, but
they denied touching her. The incident took place
during the Friday night Mayor’s Night event.
In a statement, KCMO Mayor Sly James said, “I
created Mayor’s Nights and Club KC to give our
young people a safe and fun environment to spend
their summer evenings. I was deeply troubled to
learn about the unacceptable situation involving a
female participant that took place at the Tony Aguirre
Community Center this past weekend. Fortunately,
the staff acted swiftly to address the incident and
law enforcement handled the situation with the two
male participants. This type of behavior will not be
tolerated.

Superintendent Roosevelt Lyons said his staff and
police were on hand immediately to mitigate the
incident. Lyons added his staff will also monitor the
hallways near the bathrooms and other areas where
there is a potential for kids to duck around corners.

Helen Chavez, the widow of Cesar Chavez,
died Monday at a Bakersfield hospital. She
was 88.
A statement from the Cesar Chavez
Foundation said she died of natural causes and
was surrounded by family members.
She is survived by seven of her children: Eloise
Carillo, Paul Chavez, Sylvia Delgado, Anthony
Chavez, Fernando Chavez, Anna Ybarra,
Elizabeth Villarino and many grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. Her daughter Linda
Chavez Rodriguez died in 2000. As of press
deadline, services for her were still pending.

PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE
PUBLIC HEARINGS SCHEDULE
The Public Improvements Advisory Committee (PIAC), in cooperation with the Mayor and City
Council, will be holding public hearings across the city. These hearings are being held so that the
Committee and Council can hear from citizens about the city’s public improvements needs. The PIAC
will use information gathered through the hearings to recommend projects for funding to the Council
for Year Thirty-Four (Fiscal Year 2017 - 2018) of the one-cent sales tax for public improvements.
In addition to coming to the hearings, citizens can also tell PIAC about needed public improvements by
completing a project request form. These forms will be available at the hearings or are available from

Pachuco says you have to keep the kids busy

Los Huevones.
Graduations are over and I
pray that you were among the
many blessed to celebrate your
child’s accomplishments. A new
journey begins for those parents
whose children are either going
to summer school or just going
to be wasting time at home “de
huevones.” Some children may be
thinking that la cha-cha (maid) is
going to take care of the chores.
But El Pachuco feels that children
should be taking care of the house
and the chores when parents are at
work. Some parents are not happy
that their children are out of
school because that means leaving
their huevones home alone.
When huevones are home
alone, they watch TV, play their
XBox games, are on the phone
texting their friends, or inviting
t h e i r
friends to the house so that they
can have a marijuana party.
Others just leave the house and
hang out with their homies in
the park and get into things that
they later regret. I often hear
from parents that when they
return home from work they find
the house in disarray, and that
is when los gritos (the yelling)
begin. “Why didn’t you clean your
room! You should have taken the
trash out! Why didn’t you wash
the dishes? Why didn’t you cut
the grass! Porque estas de huevon
(why are you being lazy)?”
The list is endless with the
many things you parents expect
your child to help with, especially
when they are on school break.
Instead, your huevones do
everything but the things that you
hope they would do to support
you when you get home from
the back breaking jobs most of
you have. When you are at work,
your huevones are on their backs
en la cama (on the bed) trying
to increase the population of
America. So when you get home,
don’t be surprised with your sons
or daughters when they tell you
that a new addition to la familia
will be arriving in nine months.
Forget about your huevones
taking
responsibility
for
supporting el bebe nuevo (the new
baby). Instead, the expectation of
your huevon will be that mama
or papa will take care of toda la
familia (all the family) including
the new born. Other huevones
will eventually get tired of la
mama nagging them and will
decide to move out with their
ruca or ruco. They will see for
themselves that la vida (life)
is not as easy as one might
have expected. Be prepared
to increase your minutes
on your cell phones. Your
huevones will be placing
numerous calls to you
asking you to allow them
to move back in. A
bit of advice,
d o n’t
answer your phones!
I was seven years old when I
first became un hombre (became a
man) and learned the importance
of work ethic, education and
responsibility. In the early 60’s,
during my school summer and
holiday breaks, I recall getting up
early in the morning to accompany
my mother to work. Jack Bloom,
a garment company located
in the garment section of Los
Angeles, was the sweatshop I got
accustomed to during my summer
and holiday breaks. My mama
worked over 25 years as a garment
pressor (planchadora) and rarely
missed work during her tenure.
Most of la gente (the people)
working there were Mexicans and
Jews – la gente pobre (the poor
folk) from the neighboring barrios
of Los Angeles. The heat wreaked
havoc in the summer and inside
the sweat shop the temperature
would reach into the upper 100’s.
I recall my mama frequently
passing out from heat exhaustion.
She would never go home as one
might do today when they get ill
at work. After some wet towels on
the back of her neck, and a drink
of some fresh water, mama was
back on her feet ironing with the
hot steam, trying to complete her
job.
I worked as a runner taking
items to my mom that needed to
get pressed. I learned the value of
work but more importantly, tips
from the sewing operators would
be my incentive to go to work
each day. I would arrive on time,
and would work eight hours a day,
five days a week, sometimes six
depending on my mother’s work
needs.
My work ethics was what my
mama taught me at an early age.
Yo no era huevon (I was not lazy).
I realized early in life that I did
not want to return to a sweat shop
to work for the rest of my life so I
decided that education was going
to be my salvation from the sweat
shop. Although my mama had a
sixth grade education, her work
ethics and responsibility to her
children earned her the right to be
our hefita (boss). My father didn’t
earn that right being that he was a
grade “A” huevon.
So how do parents take back the
control of their palacio (castle) and
deal with the huevones at home? I
would say, “Grow some albondigas
grandes” and take control of your
castle now! If your Huevones are
not doing anything to help out,
kick them out. Assuming they are
of age. If they tell you I do not
want to go to summer school, tell
them that is not an option, you
are going! End of story! Make a
list of chores that you expect your
huevones to complete. Oh yes,
include in that list your significant
other (marido) as well. Teach
them to be responsible and that
the materialist items they possess
are the result of your hard work.
You buy them things, but what
do you get in return? Everything
they have is because of you. Don’t
be a fool, make them work for
what they need and what they
want to have. Things cost money
and the only way your huevones
can live a comfortable life and get
the amenities in life is through an
education and being responsible
and hard working.
If your child is old enough to
work, encourage them to look for
a job. Many times I hear people
putting down people who work at
a McDonalds, but what is wrong
with working there? It is a job and
it pays if you come to work on
time and work hard. You can even
eat all the papitas (French fries)
you want. Oh yes, and be careful
not to get caught by the manager.
He will make you pay for the
food you try to sneak behind the
counter and eat. Nothing is free
in life. You have to work for it
huevones.
If your child is too young
to work, consider having your
huevon read at least two hours
daily. Reading will enhance
your child’s ability to advance in
the English language courses at
school. Have your child exercise
their brain by doing math,
science, and algebra problems
on the Internet. There are many
free age appropriate programs
for your child that may improve
your child’s ability to stay focused

that can be easily controlled
through teaching your children
at an early age to be responsible
and to embrace education as
their salvation. Through your
own behavior, and will you
can eliminate the “huevonada
virus.” Mi mama taught me,
and demonstrated through hard
work and being responsible, that
anything is possible.
So huevones, take the advice of
El Pachuco Educado, stay off la

get a job, and help your jefita

Hana Ali, recalled his
final moments with family
by his side, hugging and
kissing him and holding
his hands as they chanted
Islamic prayers.

strong and whispered in
his ear, ‘You can go now.
We will be okay,’” Hana
Ali wrote on Twitter.
Even after many of his
organs failed, his heart
kept beating for 30
minutes, she wrote.
On Saturday at the
Muhammad Ali Center,
CEO Donald E. Lassere
read a statement saying
in part, “Ali will be
remembered
for
his
love for all people,
his
athleticism,
his
humanitarian
deeds,
social justice and perhaps
mostly his courage in and
out of the ring.”
Muhammad Ali was
a professional boxer,
widely regarded as one
of the most significant
and celebrated sporting
figures of the 20th
century.
Born Cassius Clay in
Louisville, Kentucky, in
1942, Muhammad Ali
became an Olympic
gold
medalist
in
1960 and the world
heavyweight
boxing
champion
in
1964.
Following his suspension
for
refusing
military
service, Ali reclaimed
the heavyweight title two
more times during the
1970s, winning bouts
against Joe Frazier and
George Foreman along
the way. Diagnosed with
Parkinson’s disease in
1984, Ali devoted much
of his time to philanthropy,
earning the Presidential
Medal of Freedom in
2005.
Jerry Morales, a local
boxer referee and one time
president of the Golden
Glove organization and
head of Gold Gloves
officials,
remembers
the time in1974 when
Muhammad Ali paid a
visit to Kansas City.
“He came to fight an
exhibition bout and of
course he called the
Golden Gloves because
he wanted to find an
official for the fight,”
Morales
explained.”
With me being the head
referee and all, I ended
up refereeing his bout. I
can’t recall who he fought
that day.”
Morales found Ali
amiable
and
good
humored. He remembered
the first thing he said to
him when they ran into
each other before the
exhibition.
I called him Cassius
Clay and he told me ‘I
am Muhammad Ali,”
recalled Morales. “’I told
him, I said. ‘I know you
by Cassius Clay.’ We met
going up the steps. He
saw me coming up and
he called me Chicano
and I said, ‘No sir, I am
a Mexican American.
Chicano is for people in
California, not for me.’
He said, ‘well, I will see
you around,’ and of
course the next time he
saw me it was in the ring.
He was real surprised.”
Morales
recalls
everything
happening
real fast.
“I got to talk to him a
little bit. He was a nice
gentlemen and that (in
the ring) was all the time I
had with him because he
left town right away. They
were going to have a
party but he had to leave
town you know,” Morales
added.
Morales’
daughter
posted a picture on
Facebook of the event. It
shows Morales and Ali in
the ring.
“I refereed his bout and
the photographer took a
picture of me in the ring,”
recalled Morales.
Morales believes Ali
was a great fighter but he
stops shy of calling him
the greatest of all time.
“We had Joe Luis and
Rocky Marciano … but he
was up there with them. I
would say yes,” he said.
Morales remembers the
time Ali refused to join
the service when he was
drafted. He is convinced
that Ali would have had

Morales
cree
que Ali fue un gran
luchador,
pero
se
detiene
tímidamente
para nombrarlo el más
