MINISTRY MINUTES
The Spiritual Works of Mercy – Instructing the
Uninformed
Reflection ~ Robin Black-Rubenstein
While our bishops’ website uses the more traditional title for
this work “Instructing the Ignorant”, Dr. Stackpole and the
Divine Mercy Library use a more respectful title “Instructing
the Uninformed”. I like the latter title because it reminds us
to approach those with whom we would share our faith in a
respectful manner. This work of mercy asks us to be
responsible for, first, learning about our faith and, second, be
open to talking about our faith with others.
If a close friend were to say “There is something I need to tell
you but you can’t bear it all now”, we might assume
something is wrong or we are about to get bad news. Like
many other words and actions of Jesus, His words mean
something completely different. Jesus assures the disciples
that He has all that the Father has and that it is the role of the
Spirit to reveal the truth to them, and that they will share in
the profound and intimate relationship. We too participate in
this sharing and love with the Holy Trinity.
Our bishops state the obvious when they say that there is
always something more for you and I to discover about our
faith. Dr. Stackpole also states the obvious which in actual
practice is not so obvious. He says – “This means, first of all,
accepting our God-given responsibility to be the primary
source of religious education and formation for our children.”
When we bring our children to the Sacrament of Baptism we
are asked if we are ready to accept that responsibility but we
do not always do the work required to teach or model our
faith in our homes. In order to be able to be the first teachers
of our faith we have to refresh our knowledge about our faith
and to be prayer leaders in our homes.
Psalm 8 rejoices in creation and we are God’s advocate and
agent in creation. We are co-creators with God. People
meant to love and nurture in the same way that God does. It
is with Gods love through the sacrifice of Jesus, and the
wisdom of the Spirit that enable us to take part in this Divine
dance.
As Jesus said, this revelation is a lot for humans to bear.
However, the news is good and we should share it!
Priest, Prophet and King
In our RCIA classes our parish uses a book titled Catholicism
for Dummies written by Fathers John Trigilio and Kenneth
Brighenti. That book is available in our gift shop or ask me if
you want to borrow my copy to see if you like it.
The participants in the recent Adult Faith Formation study
Priest, Prophet and King have asked to view the videos again
now that the series has ended. ALL ARE INVITED even if
you did not take the course. The dates are as follows:

S.A.K. (Serving Area Kids)
Job Opportunity
Food Service Manager—St. Boniface School
S.A.K. is a summer lunch program for school children to
provide kids ages 15 and under FREE and healthy meals
during the summer when school is out and cafeteria lunches
are not available to students.
St. Boniface School is seeking a Food Service Manager.
This individual is responsible for the planning, preparation,
ordering of foods for lunches and record-keeping for the
Federal Hot Lunch School Program. An Illinois Food
Service Sanitation License is required. Flexible start date.
We continue to collect items for the SAK lunch program.
The collection container is located in the lobby of the
church. All volunteers have been sent information on your
summer SAK assignments. Thank you for sharing your time
and gifts with the children in our local community.

High School will be attending this Liturgical Leadership
conference at St. Meinrad Archabbey. Please keep them in
your prayers this week as they reflect on and live out the call
to discipleship of the Church. Youths who will be attending

WORLD YOUTH DAY 2016

Six youths from the parish join pilgrims from around the
world in Poland to pray with Pope Francis. Please keep us in
prayer this week for safe travels and that we may grow in our
faith. Those travelling from our parish/neighboring parish
will be: Lauren Serfas, Ryan Serfas, Kaitlyn Frick, Polly Czar,
Bryan Dammerich & Maddie Litterst. Joan Green & Jill

ST. BONIFACE CHOIR TRAVELING TO ROME
CHOIR TO SING MASS AT ST. PETER’S BASILICA
St. Boniface Parish Choir has been
invited to join with other choirs from
throughout the world in Rome next
June 2017. The trip would include
singing a Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in
the Vatican. We are very excited and
honored to have been invited to
participate in this Choral Festival.
Anyone wishing to donate towards the trip may do so by
sending a donation to the Parish Office or dropping it in the
collection basket at Mass. Please indicate that your gift is for
the Choir by marking “Rome” in the memo line. Thank you
so much for your generosity!
Parishioners are also welcome to join us on this trip. If
you’ve never been to Italy, now is your chance! Please

Weekly Financial Report
Stewardship
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.
That means we are celebrating God on this holy day. In the
Catholic Church a solemnity is the highest ranking holy day
possible (followed by a feast and a memorial). The Most Holy
Trinity is the central mystery of our Catholic faith.
As Catholics we acknowledge the Holy Trinity when we
arrive in a church, and several times during our liturgies as
well as other times. Every time we make the sign of the cross,
every time we pray most likely, we are expressing our faith in
the Trinity and our faith that the Trinity was revealed by Jesus
on the Cross. One part of stewardship is knowing our
traditions and the meanings behind them.
Making the sign of the Cross should never be an empty
gesture on our parts. Jesus told us that if we love Him, God
(the Trinity) will come and dwell within us. More than once
St. Paul reminds us that we are “temples of the living God.”
God is within each and every one of us. Do we realize that?
Do we live out that truth? Today’s feast confronts us to
examine ourselves and our lives. As good stewards we need
to live with the certainty that the Blessed Trinity is present in
us. Then we need to reflect that presence.
Pope Francis, in his homily on the Feast of the Holy Trinity
in 2013, said, “In today’s feast we praise God for His glory is
immense. We praise Him and thank Him for He is love, and
He calls us to embrace Him and those around us with that
love.”

Weekly Gift to Parish as Percentage of Income
God asks each of us to consider tithing 10% of our income; Catholic tithing then divides this as 5% to our personal
charities, 4% to our Parish, and then, 1% to our Diocese (Annual Catholic Services Appeal-ACSA). Below is a grid

Calling All Catholic Men: The Knights of Columbus is holding their next major degree on Sunday, June 5, beginning with
registration at 12:30 p.m. This is a perfect opportunity to join our ranks and help us in our charitable, family and fun activities.

Bar-B-Que: The Knights are having a BBQ on Sunday, June 12, at the KC Hall, 7132 Marine Rd., Edwardsville. We are serving
baby back ribs, pork steaks, chicken, pulled pork and brats from 11:30 a.m.—5:00 p.m. Dinners and sandwiches are available.
Dinners come with two sides (potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans, coleslaw and apple sauce) and sandwiches come with
one. Eat in the hall or carry out.
Golf Fundraiser: All are welcome to join the Knight’s largest fundraiser of the year, which provides us the funds to contribute
to the two parishes and high school we support, will be held on Saturday, July 9, at Oak Brook Golf Club. Our contributions
depend on all parishioners making this fundraiser a success. More details to follow but reserve the date now. Contact Scott

Fish Fry: The Knights hold a Fish Fry on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of every month. Hours are from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Baptisms ~ Please contact the Parish Office for registration information.
Prior to baptism, parents are required to attend a one-hour seminar.
Parents may attend the seminar before their child is born.
Penance ~ Saturday 3:30 - 4:00 p.m. Wednesday 6:00 - 6:30 p.m.
Thursday (Bi-lingual) 6:00—6:30 PM Or by appointment.
Communal services are celebrated during Advent and Lent.
Marriage ~ If you are considering marriage, a minimum of six months is
required for preparation. A wedding date cannot be set until after the first
meeting with the pastor. At that time, the diocesan and parish guidelines
will be explained.
Anointing of the Sick ~ Parishioners who are seriously or critically ill, or
having surgery, should contact the pastor for the celebration of the
sacrament.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults ~ The R.C.I.A. is an ongoing
formation process for adults who are interested in becoming a Catholic and
would like to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First
Eucharist. Call the Parish Office for additional information.
