The events this quarter
were once again truly
unique. Joe Martin and
Joyce Dawson planned
a “Name Game” in
which the individuals
learned the
meaning of their
names. An Earth
Day celebration
included a craft
and the planting
of a tree, bushes
and flowers which
were donated by
various nurseries
and garden
centers. Connie
Blackwell was
instrumental in
acquiring these
donations.
Due to an
invitation
extended by
Sandra Wayne, Sean
Sublette, the
weatherman from
WSET came to talk
to the group about
weather, storms, and
how to stay safe during
dangerous weather
conditions. Linda
Parker, another special
visitor, came with her
group of western line
dancers. They
performed a few
numbers and
successfully got the
rest of the group in the
mood and on their feet
to dance to the music.

The monthly special
events have been so
popular, with both the
individuals and the
staff, that we decided
to carry on this
dynamic type of
programming on a daily
basis. The individuals
visit different
classrooms twice a day
with different staff and
participate in a variety
activities.
This special
programming enables
the individuals to take
advantage of the
special abilities and
skills of all The Arc’s
staff. Activities have
included making
various crafts, planting
and caring for plants,
writing poetry, sewing,
exercising, learning to
clean, cooking, taste
testing, scrapbooking,
reading stories,
discussing current
events, going out to the
parks, libraries and
other exciting places in
the community.
As a result of this
dynamic programming,
the individuals and
staff seem to be more
energized. Everyday
there is something new
to look forward to and
different people to
work and socialize
with.
