An Open Letter to the Protectors of Human Rights
The Laws in Ukraine are not working any more. We do not have anybody to ask for
help, that is why we ask for help of the World Community.
Tonight power structures of Ukraine Ministry of Internal Affairs started impudent and
uncovered terroristic actions on the Kyiv streets. During the night from 22 to 23 of
January, special trained persons, in the form of BERKUT, were stopping and crashing
cars of the Automaidan. They were catching drivers, without any accusations.
Particularly, on the Shchorsa Street, on the corner of Grushevskogo Street and the
Kriposnogo lane, near the House of Officers, and on the Southern Bridge. They were
acting according to the following scheme: the group of BERKUT policemen attempt
to stop cars of Automaidan by blocking their movement. Then they encircled cars, and
without saying a word, start to punch tires, crash cars with the help of sticks, crash
windows and lightening equipment and well as body of cars.
After that, if it was impossible for the driver to escape by turning around the car, they
pull him out from his car, beat him cruelly and take into their cars. In such a way near
10 people were arrested. At present moment, according to the information of
Automaidan drivers, they are kept in the Darnytsa DDIA (District department of
internal affairs) of Kyiv. What is more, as a rule, all arrested people by the police of
Ukraine MIA , accused in the protest action on the Maidan, were beaten with the
animal cruelty. Apparently, Automaidan drivers were not the exception.

Thus, it is not the end. Those drivers, who were arrested by the Berkut policemen
during transportations to DDIA were taken from one police minibus to another.
Probably, it was done in order to confuse those Automaidan drivers, who follow them.
According to some data, people in this minibus, for unknown reasons, were blown up
with grenade. There is a suspicion that two of drivers, who were kept in that minibus,
are seriously injured. Automaidan drivers have found this minibus abandoned near
House of Officers. The doors were broken, (probably, as a result of blow waves) and
things were thrown around for several meters.
There is one more important thing: according to the evidences of Automaidan drivers,
who were lucky to escape from those barbarian attacks of Berkut policemen, there
seems to be that those special trained policemen were acting with much more cruelty
than before. Actually, it was impossible even to talk to them, as they were acting like
real bandits, who do not react to any appeals. There is no need to mention that the law
foresees the policeman to name his position, surname and the cause of stopping of the
transport vehicle. There is a suspicion, which needs to be stated loud: according to the
words of one of those Automaidan drivers, the Berkut policemen who blocked them
do not seemed to be Ukrainian. He thinks that they were collogues from the Northern
neighbor country.
The collected by Automaidan drivers photo -, video materials, which prove stated
facts, are added to this letter. At the present moment, initiative group of Automaidan
is preparing press - conference, where these materials will be publicized.
We ask everybody for the promotion of this information spreading through
corresponding human rights organizations. Announce to everybody, please, that we,
those who go to a peaceful protests on the Maidan in Kiev and other cities of Ukraine,
starting from today do not have any sense to appeal for the justice to the
corresponding state or juridical institutions of Ukraine.
