your business. Barksdale Federal works to provide you the best

look to 2014, we hope each member takes advantage of all we

and want them to succeed. Come into a location today to
discuss the options for a small business loan with a financial
service representative.
Low loan rates. We continue to be the leading lender in new
and used auto purchases in our market areas, and our mortgage
department continues to be overwhelmed with members wanting
to purchase or refinance their existing home mortgages.

Traveling Soon? Please give us a call. We
can ensure your Barksdale Federal VISA®
credit and debit card are ready for the trip.
Our fraud protection service picks up your
transactions when you are overseas and
– for your protection – may block further
use. To avoid this from happening, let card
services know you will be out of country.
Call 800-647-2328, option 5.
Also, many stores offer a cash-back
option if you use your VISA debit card
in a PIN-based transaction. While we
recommend Signature-based transactions
to earn your reward points, this is a great
way to avoid ATM fees if you happen to
be traveling away from home.
Get a Jump Start on Your Taxes.
If you are setting up direct deposit
for your tax refund, remember these
important facts: 1. The name and
account number must match exactly
in order for the deposit to be credited
to your account. If not, it will be
returned. 2. The person receiving the
deposit must be on the account.
Has Your Address Changed? If
your mail is returned to Barksdale
Federal by the U.S. Postal Service, there
is a monthly fee of $5. Please make sure
we have your correct mailing address on
all accounts by visiting any location, logging into your online banking account
and clicking Secure Forms for Address
Change Form, or calling 318-549-8145
or 800-647-2328, option 4.

7 Questions
to Ask Before
Refinancing
F
or many homeowners, refinancing can be a smart move.
However, before you decide to refinance your mortgage,
ask yourself the following:
1. What are my goals for refinancing? Are you trying to
lower your total monthly payment? Pay off your mortgage
sooner? Get access to accumulated equity? Your goals will help
you determine what terms and interest rate to look for.
5. How long do I plan to stay in my home? If you expect to
stay in your home for at least several more years, refinancing
may make sense. If you plan to move soon, you may not have
time to recoup the costs involved in refinancing the mortgage.
2. What’s the value of my home? You can find out approximately what your home is worth by checking out the sale prices
of comparable homes in your neighborhood.
6. What are the current interest rates? Generally speaking,
you may want to consider refinancing if you can get an interest rate at least 2% below your original loan rate. However,
you may also want to refinance if you have an adjustable-rate
loan, are concerned about future rate increases and want to
switch to a fixed-rate loan – even if the new rate is the same or
slightly higher. You can estimate your monthly payments and
interest charges using the mortgage calculators at www.bfcu.org.
3. What is my equity? Check your latest mortgage loan statement to find your outstanding balance. Subtract the outstanding balance from your home’s current value. For example,
if you owe $250,000 on a home worth $300,000, you have
$50,000 in equity. (You may have a harder time refinancing if,
due to economic pressures, your home is worth less than the
amount you owe.)
4. Do I have other liens against my home? If you have a
home equity loan or line of credit, the outstanding balance will
be deducted from your equity.
7. What fees are involved in refinancing? Find out about
closing fees, appraisal fees, etc.
A Home Lending Consultant from Barksdale Federal Credit
Union can help you review your options and determine whether
refinancing makes sense for you. Call 318-549-8170 today.

OnTrack: A New Budgeting
Resource for You
A
s part of Barksdale Federal’s commitment to helping you realize your financial goals, we are pleased to announce
your newest benefit of membership: OnTrack, an online tool
that helps you create a budget and a spending plan, at
www.ontrackbudget.org.
OnTrack takes the terror – or at least the guesswork – out of
knowing exactly how much money is coming in and going out.
In this self-guided module, you will create a realistic budget, and
will find tools for tracking expenses, tips for taking control of your
personal finances, direction on reducing debt and information
specific to challenges you might be currently facing.
OnTrack is designed to be anonymous, but you may choose to
have a counselor contact you for unbiased money management
information and financial counseling once you’ve completed it.
All you have to do is fill out your information at the end of the
program or make a toll-free phone call to our partner, BALANCE,
at 888-456-2227. A certified financial counselor can answer
many of your questions immediately – from how long an item
stays on your credit report to whether it’s better to lease or buy a
car. For more complex issues, such as debt elimination or budget
development, BALANCE will schedule an appointment – giving
you the personal attention you need to meet your objectives. If
bills have gotten out of hand, your counselor may be able
to arrange a Debt Management Plan in which
your creditors may reduce interest and
fees so you can pay your debt quickly
and efficiently.
We recognize that money concerns have
a serious effect on our quality of life. Now,
via the Web at www.balancepro.net or via
phone, 888-456-2227, financial education is
available to you free of charge as a benefit of
your membership at Barksdale Federal.
Need a New Car?
Your Credit Union Membership Gives You Three Great Ways to Save
B
1
arksdale Federal has three ways for our members to save
on a new vehicle purchase.
First, General Motors is offering all current and eligible credit
union members preferred pricing on most new GM vehicles.
This is in addition to the most current incentives and special
offers! Depending on the vehicle, you could save hundreds, even
thousands of dollars on your next new Chevrolet, Buick or GMC
vehicle purchase just for being a credit union member. Visit
LoveMyCreditUnion.org to see how much you can save and
request your GM Authorization Number.
2
Second, our members can save big with great low rates when you
finance your new vehicle through Barksdale Federal. Contact us
at 318-549-8070 or 800-647-2328, option 7 directly to find
out more about your vehicle financing options.
3
Third, you’ll also save on fuel costs with GM’s high-fuel efficiency
vehicles.* Start saving today!
*G
M offers high-fuel efficient products in most high-volume vehicle segments, and more are coming to the market each year. (All fuel economy ratings below are EPA estimates.)
The new Chevrolet Cruze Eco, with its 42 mpg EPA highway estimate, offers the best highway fuel economy of any gasoline engine (non-hybrid) car in America. The Chevy
Equinox and GMC Terrain crossovers offer space for the family and a 32 mpg highway estimate. Chevrolet Malibu has EPA mileage estimates of 22 mpg city, 33 mpg highway
and can travel nearly 500 highway miles on a tank of fuel. Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra offer the best highway fuel economy estimates of any V8 pickups (22 mpg), and offer
hybrid models for the ultimate in full-size truck fuel efficiency (20 mpg city, 23 mpg highway).
