“
My name is John Davitt and I graduated from Law Plus in 2013. I was attracted to Law Plus because it allows you to sup‐
plement a traditional law degree with electives from a broad spectrum of disciplines. This option to explore other interests, while still studying the requisite subjects examined in the Law Society entrance exams was the primary reason I chose this course. I was able to avail of modules in Politics and Sociology in addition to my core legal modules and I feel this gave me a broader education and enriched my university experience. The course was very intellectually stimulating, varied and dynamic. In addition to typical class‐room based lectures, we got the opportunity to use the Moot Court, a replica of a real‐life court. This was particu‐
larly enjoyable, and implemented a practical element into the course. After graduating from UL, I pursued a Masters degree at the London School of Economics. I subsequently worked as a Parliamentary Assis‐
tant at the UK House of Lords and in September 2015, I will com‐
mence a training contract at Matheson, a top law firm in Dublin. I believe the exceptionally strong reputation UL enjoys in the aca‐
demic and professional world facilitated these opportunities. The strong legal foundation and skills I acquired at UL made the progres‐
sion to post‐graduate study as seamless as possible, and left me well‐
equipped to enter the professional legal environment. JOHN DAVITT

What you will study
The programme is of four years’ duration; seven semesters are spent on campus and one on work placement. In gen‐
eral, the programme consists of three law modules and two elective modules per semester. The law component of the course is designed to provide you with a mastery of the discipline of law through the study of the core legal subjects: Lawyering Skills, Contract, Torts, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Equity and Trusts, EU Law and Land Law. The elective component of the degree comprises a wide variety of modules from other disciplines and also includes additional Law modules. The electives serve to broaden the base of your legal studies and refine your knowledge of the wider world. For a full list of these options, please see our website. During the first half of Year 3, an eight‐month period of Cooperative Education provides you with an opportunity to apply the knowledge that you have already acquired. Nor‐
mally this will take the form of a work placement. It is possi‐
ble to complete this placement abroad. In addition, a num‐
ber of academic placements are available to enable you to study law through an exchange programme with one of our partner law schools worldwide. During Year 4, you will take Advanced Lawyering modules that involve a variety of practically focussed activities such as writing a research article, undertaking a moot trial, work‐
ing in a business law clinic and participating in a conveyanc‐
ing scenario. Programme structure *
