Day 1: Sunday, January 29th, 2012: Twin Cities Departure. Depart
Minneapolis/St. Paul for San Diego, and enjoy the flight over the
Rockies to sunny California. Meet your Tour Director, Dennis Gaetano
at the Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport. Upon arrival in San Diego meet
your local driver/guide who will escort you to the motor-coach. Checkin your hotel in San Diego for the 1st of a 2-night stay. Tonight enjoy a
welcome dinner with your fellow pilgrims. (D)
Day 2: Monday, January 30th: San Diego. Visit the
Mission (Basilica) San Diego de Alcalá known as the “Mother of the
Alta California Missions” (Mass requested here). Learn the history
leading up to this challenging undertaking and see re-creation of the
cloister of Fr. Junipero Serra. Enjoy a Panoramic City Tour of San
Diego and take pleasure in an evening meal at one of the area
restaurants before returning to the Hotel for our final night in San
Diego. (B)
Day 3: Tuesday, January 31st: Travel to Ventura. Travel to Santa
Barbara area for a 2-night stay. On the way visit Mission San Luis
Rey de Francia. St. Louis led the crusades to regain the Holy Land for
Christ; San Juan Capistrano, named after the 14th century theologian
and one of the most picturesque sites in all of California (Mass
requested here); we will visit the Carmel Monastery (appointment
pending), home of Father Adam’s sister; Mission San Gabriel
Arcángel aka “Pride of the Missions”. Here witness the Moorish
influence on the architecture; Mission San Fernando Rey de
España, named for St. Ferdinand, 13th century King of Spain;
Enjoy Dinner at our hotel in Ventura and settle in for a well
deserved night’s rest. (B,D)
Day 4: Wednesday, February 1st: Santa Barbara area. After
breakfast we visit Mission San Buenaventura (St. Bonaventure),
Mission Santa Barbara, “Queen of the Missions”, Mission Santa
Inés (St. Agnes of Rome), Mission Purísima Concepción
(Immaculate Conception – Mass requested here) all on the beautiful
Pacific Coast north of Los Angeles. Following dinner (on your own) we
retire for our final night in Santa Barbara. (B)
Day 5: Thursday, February 2nd: Mid-California. We leave Santa
Barbara for the spectacular drive to Monterrey. Along the way we stop
at 4 of the 21 Missions we will visit on our Pilgrimage. Mission San
Luis Obispo named for a 14th century Bishop of Toulouse, France
(very close to Lourdes) where a process for making tiles locally was
developed to avoid fires from the typical thatched roofs of the time.
Mission San Miguel Arcángel, the halfway point between Los
Angeles and San Francisco, Mission San Antonio de Padua, the 3rd
Mission to be established, and the beautiful setting surrounding the
Mission Nuestra Señora de la Soledad underscore the beauty of the
river valleys in the California countryside. Dine with your fellow
pilgrims on this first night in Monterey. (B,D)
Day 6: Friday, February 3rd: Carmel & Monterey
Peninsula. Spend the day in famous “Carmel by
the Sea” known for its natural scenery and rich
artistic history. Visit Mission San Carlos
Borromeo de Carmelo where Blessed Junipero Serra is
buried (Mass requested here). See the life-sized figure of
Blessed Junipero and 3 of his fellow missionaries. Spend

assimilate the Mission events
of our Pilgrimage. Dinner on

the middle of a busy city, Mission San
Francisco de Asís (or Mission Dolores)
is also home to The Grotto of Our Lady
of Lourdes Shrine. The Mission San
Rafael Arcángel began as an offsite

of the Bear Flag revolt of 1846 declaring California a republic. While
in the area we visit 2 wineries, one in Napa Valley and one in
Sonoma. Following a short visit to Mission San Rafael we cross
the Golden Gate Bridge before our farewell dinner. (B,D)
