WHO WE ARE:
Agios Athanasios Municipality, under the support of the
Ministry of Education and Culture, proceeded to the
establishment of the "Open School" Association in 2007.
The board of Open School of Agios Athanasios is
constituted by the association of parents and other
organizations of the municipality.
It is an innovative institution as it is open for all citizens,
independent of age, and through the big variety of courses
that offers, enables people to gain knowledge in subjects
they are interested in, like English, Modern Greek and IT
and cultivates their skills and abilities in many areas like
art, theater, handicraft, tennis, fencing and dance.
OPEN SCHOOL’S VISION:
Life - Long Learning as an objective of
the EU.
The integration of all citizens in the
community.
The education and training of citizens.
The implementation of the Educational
Reform.
OPEN SCHOOL’S AIMS:
The aims and the objectives of "Open School" are:
The utilization of school buildings and equipment as
places of Culture, Sports and Creation, during the
afternoons.
The active participation of members of each
Municipality or Community and the improvement of
their quality of life.
The development of the cultural and athletic level of
our society.
The opportunity for organizations, associations and
persons, who have intellectual, artistic and athletic
skills, to show their work in the wide community of
Agios Athanasios.
The tightening of relations between the residents of
Municipality / community.
WHO CAN BE A LEARNER:
Everybody can be a learner in "Open School",
independent of age.
The courses are offered on a weekly base. The
frequency and the duration is depended from the
nature of each course. Everybody can take part in
any course.
Each academic year begins in October and
finishes in May.
LEARNERS OVER AGE OF 50
95 persons
Lessons preferred: Modern Greek, IT, Russian,
French, Traditional Dance, Art, Crafts,
Hagiography, Byzantine Music, Ikebana, Pilates,
Fitness Physiotherapy with Barre a Terre.
“It is NEVER late to learn” .
The vision of OS for people over the age of 50 is
to learn something new, meet new people,
acquire new work skills or just to have an active
retirement.
