ELECTION DATES FOR 2016
Not registered to vote in Barrington?
Register at the Town Clerk’s Office before the end of the
year to avoid the lines at the registration tables.
You should be prepared to present proof of citizenship, age
and domicile.
Citizenship: A birth certificate, a passport, and naturalization
papers if the applicant is a naturalized citizen, or any other
reasonable documentation which indicates the applicant is a
U.S. citizen. If none of these is available, an Affidavit of
Citizenship may be completed.
Age: Any reasonable documentation indicating the applicant
is 18 years of age or older.
Domicile: Any of the following documents can be submitted
as presumptive evidence that the applicant meets the
domicile requirement: NH driver's license with Barrington
address, NH vehicle registration with a Barrington address, a
lease or utility bill with current address. If these are not
available, the applicant may complete an Affidavit of
Domicile.
All elections are held at the

Online Registration
Go to http://barrington.nh.gov : then click on departments and click on TOWN
CLERK. Scroll down and then click on the online payments icon.
Dog Licensing
You will need to have the previous year’s license
number (which was processed in Barrington) and the rabies information needs to be
current in the system before you can renew your dog license.
Vehicle Registration Renewal Requests
You can request your vehicle renewal via E-Reg up to
3 months late and 20 days early for any vehicle you own. Payment by e-check is
accepted where your Town Clerks office prints the check on your behalf. This service is low cost to your municipality
and pay as you go for those who choose to use it. Only accept one check. Make payable to Town Clerk Barrington.
Vital Record Requests
Birth Certificates for births occurring outside Barrington, NH are only available for the years 1982 through
the present.
Certificates for Marriages occurring outside Barrington, NH are only available for the years 1989 through the present.
Death Certificates for deaths occurring outside Barrington, NH are only available for the years 1990 through the present.
Certificates for Divorces occurring outside Barrington, NH are only available for the years 1990 through to 6 months
prior to present day.
HAVE YOU LICENSED YOUR DOG?
All dogs are to be licensed in New Hampshire by
APRIL 30 of every year per RSA 466:1
On June 13, 2016 the Board of Selectmen approved a $32.00 per dog Civil Forfeiture
fine ($25.00 Civil Forfeiture and $7.00 service fee) that will be issued by the
BARRINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT, to ANY UNLICENSED DOG(S) in
addition to original licensing fees and late fees.
As of June 1, 2016 any UNLICENSED dog(s) will be charged a $1/month/dog

Our summer maintenance of ditching and mowing has begun,
please be on the lookout for road crews and use caution in
work zones.
School is Out: Watch for Kids!
As the end of the school year approaches, we would like to remind drivers and parents
the importance of keeping kids safe during the last week of school and throughout the
summer. Kids will be excited about the last few days of school and not necessarily
thinking about their personal safety. Neighborhoods that were practically empty during
the school year will be filled with kids on bikes, skateboards, and playing games. Drivers
need to be extra cautious in looking out for children during the summer.
• When driving, pay attention and scan the entire area around you.
• Look for kids playing near the street and slow down. Children are often unpredictable
and unaware of danger around them.
• Slow down around children and other pedestrians.
• Always stop at STOP signs and look both ways before crossing the street.

This will be a group that meets monthly to share and critique writing they are working on at home. A
place where writer’s can share their work, get feedback, and meet others who are writing. Dates for
upcoming meetings will be: June 25th, July 23rd, August 27th, October 1st, November 5th, and
December 3rd from 10:30AM-Noon. If you are interested register online. High school age and up
are welcomed to join. Although it is wonderful if you can make all the sessions; it is not required. You
can certainly select ones that fit your schedule and take a weekend off when necessary.

Haunted Hikes in New Hampshire!
Wednesday, June 29 at 6:30 PM
Join Marianne O’Connor as she shares ghost stories, legends and lore associated with some of NH’s
premier hiking trails. This summer, kids and adults alike will want to get up off the couch and explore
these haunts for themselves! This one hour presentation will highlight unusual ghost stories and spooky
surprises on many NH trails. Visit haunted huts, abandoned villages, and wonder at whether a UFO
actually landed at Indian Head! Come early for limited seating.
Traveling Abroad on a Budget: Experiences of a Barrington Native
Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 6 PM
Alexis has been working abroad as a science teacher for the last three years and has lived in Ecuador, Qatar and
Taiwan. She has had the wonderful opportunity to travel to many different countries and now is excited to be home
for a short while before moving on to the next country.
Alexis Says:
When I share photos and travel stories with friends and family back home, many ask
how I can afford to travel on a teacher’s salary. Traveling on a budget is easier than you
think and I’ve been lucky enough to travel to five continents while still being able to save.
I am excited to share my experiences of living and traveling abroad, including living with
a host family that speaks a different language, unexpected challenges in the Middle East
and the hilarious misunderstandings that often occur while speaking Mandarin. Living
abroad is a blast and traveling can be cheaper than expected. I hope to share these stories and experiences with you.
Introduction to Tai Chi – 3 Part Series
August 4th, 11th, and 18th from 6-7PM
Tai Chi is a gentle exercise regimen that is derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine
and Martial Arts. It is a smooth, graceful form of exercise focusing on balance, body
awareness and deep breathing. Tai Chi is sometimes known as “meditation in motion”.
Your instructor: Marsha Carr is a Senior Trainer with the Tai Chi for Health Institute
assisting in teacher training workshop. She started her Tai Chi journey in 1998 with
Paul Mahoney of Great Bay Tai Chi learning several Yang style forms, Chin Na, ball
form, fan form and push hands 2 person fighting set. Her practice continued by
attending trainings with Ramel Rones, Ken Cohen, Mary Sturtevant, Qigong & Reiki
Master and Master Michael Leone of Zen Wellness. In 2004 Marsha expanded her
path by learning the Tai Ch for Arthritis form created by Dr. Paul Lam MD. Since then she has practiced several of
Dr. Lam’s Sun Style programs and began teaching Sun Style in 2006. taichi4everybody.com

They will get a CPR and First Aid certification, learn about safety, how to handle emergencies,
care and feeding of infants and children, the business aspects of being a babysitter, and more.
All students will receive a Babysitting certification. The Community Babysitting Class costs $35,
and payment is due upon registration. Students should bring a lunch and drink, plus any snacks

What is the reading program? Adults, teens, and kids can log their reading time (online or at the
library) and when they come in weekly to report time read, they will get a scratch ticket for weekly
prizes such as bowling tickets, coffee gift certificates, movie tickets and much more!
Those who read a total of 20 hours for the summer will be entered to win a $100 grand prize gift card (One for adults,
one for teens, and one for kids)! We will also have a game board up so the kids can see our racers fly across the board
as they report hours read. We thank our many donors for their generous support with prizes donated and funds to
purchase gift cards.

Squam Lakes Natural Science Center ANIMAL ATHLETES program

Program with Squam Lakes Natural Science Center Program
Did you know a mountain lion can leap 15 feet in the air or that a peregrine
falcon can reach speeds of 240 mph? Join a naturalist from Squam Lakes Natural Science Center,
along with three wild animal athletes (no mountain lions though), to learn how speed, strength, and
agility help them to survive. You ’ll even be able to compare your own athletic abilities to some of
New Hampshire’s wild athletes! This program is co-sponsored with the Barrington Recreation
Department. Children in the Rec Department’s Summer Camp Program and families in the
Library’s Summer Reading Program are invited to this fun event! No Registration necessary.

A non-competitive drop-in program for men. It’s a
great way to meet new people while getting your
workout. This is a more aggressive playground
version of pickup basketball.

This is a recreational drop-in program that’s not
too competitive. Meet new people, get some
exercise, and have fun while playing a teamoriented sport with no pressure.

Youth Programs
NFL Flag Football
Who: Boys and girls, ages 6-12 (age as of 9/1/16)
Age groups: 6-8 years old & 9-12 years old
When: August 15th - October 29th
Where: Games are held at Brickyard Park, Kingston Road, Exeter, NH, on Saturday afternoons, and
coaches schedule practices one day a week at the Town Recreation Field behind the playground. Games
will not be held in Barrington.
Program Fee: $65 for Residents, $80 for Non-Residents
Registration includes: NFL FLAG Shirt, Equipment (Flags), and Participation Certificate.

NFL Player Participation Agreement is required to be completed online at

Challenger Sports' British Soccer Camp is the most popular soccer camp in the country.
Hundreds of Challenger coaches each year have helped the company develop one of the most
innovative approaches to coaching youth soccer in the US. Our experienced staff study the game
at all levels and we have identified the key techniques and skills that your players need to work on
and master to reach their true potential.
First Kicks for Ages 3 & 4 - 9:00-10:00 am - $70.00 per player
Innovative camp curriculum introduces young players to the soccer basics through fundamental
activities,
games and fun soccer challenges.
Mini Soccer for Ages 5 & 6 - 10:00-11:30 am - $92.00 per player
A longer and slightly more advance program for younger children yet still all the First Kick ethics

Young players learn and develop their individual skills within fun games and practices.

Emphasis is placed on individual skill development and mastery of core techniques through
individual drills, small group practices and coached games. This program also includes the

Challenger Sports Soccer Camps
TetraBrazil Soccer Camp - Train the Brazilian Way!
August 1st-5th at Barrington Elementary School Field
TetraBrazil camps and team clinics will inspire players to practice and improve their ball control,
foot skills, and moves that Brazilian soccer is famous for. With our unique programs combining
learning and fun, players are grouped according to age and ability. From there, we will challenge
players to raise their game and reach new heights within an excellent learning environment. Each
camper will receive a free TetraBrazil soccer ball and shirt, plus a free TetraBrazil game jersey
when you sign up online at challengersports.com at least 45 days prior to camp!
Ages 9-14

Summer & Teen Camp
You can still sign up your children for our Summer Camp program! Send your kids to the REC
Summer camp for weeks of fun with their friends, exciting field trips, crafts, games, and more!
Camp is an 8-week program from June 27th-August 19th.
Camp will operate 5 days a week. There will be no camp on July 4th.
Camp Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Pre-Camp Hours: 7:30 - 9:00 a.m.
Post-Camp Hours: 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Official opening of the A Harlan Calef Isinglass Preserve

On July 9 at 10 AM the Barrington Conservation Commission will host a public ‘roll-out’ of the
A. Harlan Calef Isinglass Preserve, which was conserved in December 2014.
The event will involve hikes to showcase the existing trails, the frontage of the land on the
Isinglass River and other natural features, and some of the history of the property. We will also
thank the many funders that made this project possible.
The reason that this celebration is so delayed is that there have been problems installing a
parking area on the property. Although the issue is on its way to being resolved, we decided to
go ahead with this event – this property is too special too keep “under wraps” any longer!
Depending on the numbers and desires of those who come, the hikes may be anywhere from
about ½ mile to about 3 miles. When you RSVP, please indicate how long a hike you might be
interested in: ½ mile, 1-2 miles, or more than 2 miles. All of the hikes are on fairly level
terrain.
Wear appropriate clothing and shoes, bring some water to drink, and please leave your dogs at
home.
Since there is no parking area, we ask that you park along Town Farm Rd., close to where the
property is located. Carpooling is encouraged.
Directions: Town Far m Rd. goes south off of Rte 202 about ~ 1 ½ miles east from its
intersection with Rte 126. It is just west of the Ayers Lake Campground. Park along Town
Farm Rd. after you pass the road/driveway on the right about 1/3 mile from Rte 202, and before
you get to the house at the end of the road about ½ mile from 202. Since parking might be a bit
tight, please carpool if you can.

Explore New Habitat in Barrington

It’s been about a year and a half since the creation of new habitat on the town-owned Samuel A
Tamposi Water Supply Reserve (SATWaSR), and the Barrington Conservation Commission and
Trails Committee are holding a public hike to see how these recently cut areas are doing.
At 9AM on August 6, Charles Moreno, the forester who directed the project, and UNH
Cooperative Extension Wildlife Outreach Program Coordinator, Haley Andreozzi, will lead this
exploration. They will explain the project and how these relatively small clear-cuts create just the
sort of habitat that the bunnies (and many other animals) need.
A group of volunteers planted some native shrubs in one area of the property in May, so we can
see how those are doing as well as how the rest of the property is faring.
The hike will be less than two miles long and involves a few mild hills. We plan to repeat this
hike over the next several years in order to observe the succession of what is still rather bare
ground into low brush and small trees – a habitat that used to be common in New Hampshire but
is now relatively rare.
SATWaSR is a ~1400-acre property owned by the town of Barrington and protected by a
conservation easement held by the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests.
