Mangia from getcheffy.com
Mangia is simply the recipe software for getcheffy recipes. You will need the “Mangia
Recipe Browser” to view and print your recipes from getcheffy.com. The browser download
is absolutely free and the software is extremely easy to use. However, if you truly want to get
the most out of your time and money spent in the kitchen, “Mangia@Home” is for you. You
may be a beginner or maybe a little uncomfortable in the kitchen, a seasoned veteran, a
horrible cook, or even a trained culinary professional but Mangia@Home will help you get
organized and really have some fun in the kitchen. Mangia@Home will be your own personal cookbook as you input your personal recipes with those you have downloaded from
getcheffy. You will be able to edit, scale, and print the recipes as well as take control of your
pantry and inventory in the shopping and markets section of the software.
Actually both Mangia@Home and the free Mangia Recipe Browser are the same software.
All you will need to get the full Mangia experience is your personal mangia key code which
you can obtain at getcheffy.com. However, I want you to get an idea of how fun and powerful Mangia can be, so you will have the ability to input 3 recipes for free before you order
your key code.
So how does Mangia work?
Mangia’s Main Screen
Mangia’s Main
Screen is your
central point
of navigation
throughout Mangia. Here you can
get an overview
of a selected recipe and see the
notes, portion size,
prep time, and
scale. You will also
be able to access
Mangia’s recipes,
ingredients, markets, tools, and
Mangia’s Recipes
The recipes are
obviously Mangia’s heart. You
will be able to
view and/or print
the recipes from
getcheffy with
the free recipe
browser as well as
watch any videos
associated with
a dish. However
when you use the
full functionality of
Mangia@Home,
you can input and
edit your own recipes, add photography, and much
more!
In the getcheffy Introduction, I explain the pantry recipe concept which is the core
of getcheffy as a living cookbook. Mangia@Home will allow you to really put your pantry to
work. When you save a dish as a “pantry recipe,” the recipe will automatically become an
ingredient that you can use in other recipes. The Corvina Taco recipe actually has two ingredients that are pantry recipes (Clarified Butter and a Key Lime - Pesto Mayo Sauce). Each
recipe you add to Mangia will have two areas to name the dish. The “recipe name” will
allow you to name the dish for easy filing so you can find it quickly in the recipe search while
the “print name” will be the header for your printed recipes. The printed name is also used as
the ingredient name when you print recipes that use a pantry recipe as an ingredient.
The quick tabs on the left hand
side of the recipes will allow you to add,
edit, or view more details about your
recipes. In the taco dish above the
recipe tab is selected which shows the
main recipe information. The Key Lime
Pesto Mayo Sauce to the right has the
ingredient tab selected, and the Pesto
Sauce ingredient highlighted, which
gives you a quick peek at any given
item in a recipe you choose. Selecting
the method tab will allow you to view
and edit the method of preparation as
well as the recipe’s notes. Last but not
least, the cuisine tab is a fun spot where you can find or edit the recipe’s origins, nutrition,
influences, center of the plate details, and of course wine pairings!
Probably the most important part of the whole process is grabbing a recipe
and starting to actually cook! The first page of our Fish Taco dish is below, and
as you can see, the recipe pages are simple and clean. You can choose
whether or not to print the recipe photo, and the printing wizard will also allow
you to select and print any pantry recipes that are a part of the dish.
You may have
noticed the video button on the Corvina Taco’s recipe. If the recipe itself or an ingredient
(even pantry recipes)
has a video attached,
the video button will
appear on the recipe.
You can simply click
the video button and
all of the videos associated with the recipe
will be available for you
to watch @ getcheffy.
Sometimes watching
a recipe in action can
give you a great head
start!

Mangia’s Ingredients
Mangia has over 1000
items loaded into the
ingredients section. Each
ingredient will have
detailed information
such as pricing, storage
temperature, grocery
section, and a detailed
notes section that will
give you an idea of the
item’s history, uses, and
helpful hints about preparation, or procurement.
However, if you can not
find the ingredient you
need for a recipe, you
can quickly add it to
Mangia and produce
your own inventory.
The list of ingredients can get out of hand pretty quickly in any recipe software. I have included a handy search engine in the ingredients section that will help you quickly find the
item you want by category, description, temperature, or supplier. You can also change
whether in ingredient shows up or not in your recipe’s ingredient selection which will help
you gain speed while building recipes.
You will find many more tools in Mangia that will help make your time in the kitchen more
enjoyable. Mangia will even help you create your shopping list for the week, or that special
dining event you want
to prepare. You can
create a shopping
list by simply strolling
through the items in
each grocery category,
which should make
your visits to the local
grocery, butcher shop,
produce stand, and
seafood market much
more efficient.
However, you can
also use Mangia’s Menu
wizard to make a collection of recipes, then
create your shopping
list based on ingredients
from your menu.
Your final shopping list will actually be separated into the each market you like to purchase
individual items, and then by grocery category.
You can quickly put that
extra touch on your recipes
with Mangia’s Photo Lab.
After you get the picture of
your special dish, Mangia will
crop and size the photo, then
place it in the photo directory
with the click of a button. You
can then use the photos in
any of your recipes.
In the extensive help directory, you will also find quick
tips to use household items
and get the best quality photo and look like a true
professional!
