Description:
Oeschinensee is a beautiful alpine lake and probably the most famous in the Kandersteg area.
The path to the lake starts at the Tourist Office in Kandersteg. It then follows up a well-marked path,
a tarmac road in places, which is suitable for all ages.
There is an alternative footpath, that follows underneath the gondola. This is steeper and less scenic
but shorter and quicker to reach the lake.
By Gondola, there is a wide footpath from the top station that leads down to the lake.

Route:
From the Centre (1189m)
walk along the main road
down to the village. Turn
right immediately after the
Tourist office. Follow the
road on the right side of
the
Oeschinenbach
stream. Take the left hand
road before the bridge.
This small road (route 7)
on the right takes you up
through the Oeschiwald
forest. After approximately
30 minutes walk you arrive to the junction with a signpost. Ignore this Doldenhornhütte junction and continue straight up the Oeschinen stream valley. The path (route 17) crosses to the
left side of the stream later on and rises gradually to the glades around the mountain Hotel
Oeschinensee (1539m). The hotel is situated on the west end of the Oeschinensee lake.
This area can also be reached by taking the gondola from Kandersteg. Next to the top station, Läger (1682m), is the summer sled run. From here follow the large path SE to the Hotel
Oeschinensee (20 minutes).
An alternative route for walking up runs between the bottom station of the gondola
(approximately 1200m) and Läger. Start along the narrow path at the gondola bottom station.
The path zigzags over the grassy slopes to NE to a junction at approximately 1360 meters.
You will pass small huts on both sides of the path. Ignore the path to your right. This would
take you to the primary route. Continue along under the gondola. The path will make a small
loop to right before meeting another track (route 13), that leads from NW to ESE. Turn right
and walk for 15 minutes until you come to the open fields of the Oeschinensee area. The
path going up takes you to the restaurant and the sledge run in Läger. The path which continues straight on goes to the lake.
