Introduction
In order to address the transport related issues in Pakistan, the Government of Pakistan is implementing a UNDP and GEF funded project with the title of Pakistan Sustainable Transport Project (PAKSTRAN). The team of “PAKSTRAN” project is working to mitigate the local environmental and other problems of the increasing traffic such as deteriorated urban air quality and congestion. The objective of “PAKSTRAN” project is to reduce the growth of energy consumption and related greenhouse gases emissions from Pakistan’s transport sector. As per the project document and annual work plans project activities are being executed by four Component Implementation Units (CIU) and a Project Management Unit (PMU). CIU‐IUCN is responsible for the implementation of awareness raising and capacity development outcome and in continuation. Also one key objectives of PAKSTRAN is to promote understanding about the sustainability concepts related to sustainable urban transport, which can influence a wider cross section of the society in Pakistan. As part of the outcome ‘Increased public awareness and institutional capacity on sustainable transport concepts’ it was important to engage the youth of Rawalpindi, so that they may have a better understanding of what basically PAKSTRAN is and how it is beneficial for all. For this purpose Fatima Jinnah Women University was approached and a poster competition and a slogan competition were organized under the Pakistan Sustainable Transport (PAKSTRAN) Project in FJWU, Rawalpindi. The event aimed at effectively engaging the students and youth of Pakistan to raise the awareness related to sustainable transport. 4 Awareness Raising Campaign on Sustainable Transport in collaboration with Fatima Jinnah Women University
