Standard Joint Sand
Calstone Joint Sand was developed specifically for superior performance in interlocking concrete
pavements. Until now there hasn’t been a good standard joint sand in our market. Two areas of
particular concern are joint retention and dust content. The “Mesh” sands commonly used exhibit
very poor joint retention, while the “all-purpose” sands exhibit poor joint retention and high dust
content that can dull the surface of the pavers. These sands do not conform to ASTM gradations
specified by the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute. Calstone standard joint sand conforms
to ASTM C144, is low dust, fills joints quickly, and provides exceptional interlock.
FEATURES & BENEFITS
COVERAGE
• Fast joint filling
• Low dust
• Easy clean-up
(No need to rinse after installation)
• No residue
• Improved paver interlock
• Washout resistant
• 140-180 SQ. FT./BAG FOR NARROW JOINTS
• 60-120 SQ. FT./BAG FOR WIDE JOINTS
Duralock Polymeric Joint Sand
Polymeric joint sand provides additional benefits over standard joint sand for those who demand the
best in performance and value. The added benefits of polymeric joint sand are improved interlock,
unsurpassed joint retention, improved joint sealing, and resistance to insect migration and weed
growth. All polymeric sands are not equal. We developed Duralock to be the ultimate polymeric joint
sand. Duralock is a blend of ultra clean ASTM C144 sand and a clear-cure, silane enhanced, polymer
manufactured in the United States. Duralock is easy to use, extremely durable, and will not discolor
your beautiful new Calstone pavers. Duralock is the ultimate polymeric joint sand.

“Fine #9” Permeable Joint Rock
Until now the minimum joint width of permeable pavers was dictated by the largest particle
sizes in locally available permeable joint fillers. ICPI recommends stone sizes 8, 89, or 9, for
permeable joint fill. (bigger number = smaller stone) Calstone developed Fine #9 to meet the
stone size # 9 standards with the smallest maximum stone size possible.
Fine #9 has allowed Calstone to introduce a new series of “Narrow Joint” permeable pavers
with joint widths that have been reduced by more than 30%. Fine #9 is an appropriate joint
filling material for all solid interlocking permeable pavements. Fine #9 will fill joints very quickly,
provide improved interlock over coarser materials, and provide very high initial infiltration rates.
Masonry Mortar Type S
SIZE & YIELD
Our 80 lb (36.3 kg) bag will lay up to 40
standard bricks and 15 standard blocks.
COLORS
Calstone Type S Masonry Mortar is stocked
and available in gray and tan. Custom colors
available by special order.
PREPARATION
Remove all loose and/or deteriorated material
as well as any surface contaminants such a
soil, paint, grease, etc.
MIXING
Empty the contents of the bag into a clean
wheelbarrow, mortar box, mechanical mixer or
other mixing vessel. Form a crater with a shovel
or hoe in the center of the dry mix. Mix sufficient
water to achieve desired workability. For hand
mixing—Blend dry mix with a shovel or hoe
from the outer edges working the material
towards the center. Continue mixing until all
free water is used and all the aggregate is
uniformly coated with cement. For mechanical
mixing—Mix the material for three minutes.
FINISHING
Joints can be finished when material has
begun to set and the surface has a thumbprint
hard consistency. Mortar joints can be finished
with a jointing tool.
CURING
