President’s Thoughts By Dick Rae…..
As we wind down our busy season with our northern friends heading home,
you can feel the sudden vacuum. Sure the golf course is less crowded and
the restaurants are easier to get into, but we are already missing the many
friends of old and new ones we made this year. With email, Facebook, and
Skype, we can stay in touch and wait for next season and their return.
While these folks are away, your HOA activities committee is looking for
ways to entertain us during the summer months. Currently we are planning
a couple of pool parties on Memorial Day weekend and the 4th of July weekend, Karaoke, and maybe a couple of dances. Mark Schneider and his committee is also preparing a car show for Fathers Day weekend. With support
and ideas from the community, we are willing to try old and new ideas. Just
contact a member of the activities committee and we will start our process
and planning. With the population down during the summer we do have to
keep the costs down, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be a lot of fun.
You are also reading this newsletter. We are trying a reduced summer version of the newsletter to try to keep one of our favorite forms of community
communication active. We will be including articles submitted by fellow residents as well as the usual community updates. If you have an article you
wish to have published please contact our editor Ginny Reid. The newsletter
will also be placed on the HOA website so the northern friends can enjoy.
Speaking of enjoyment, Mark Schneider has said he is planning on offering
some drink specials as well as some dinner specials during the summer.
Watch for future announcements.
We are planning an enjoyable and entertaining summer but can only do that
with the help and support of the residents of Schalamar Creek. Please join in
the fun!

SCHALAMAR CREEK LADIES’ GOLF ASSOCIATION
By President: Linda Wolfgang
The SCLGA finished their winter season with a delicious luncheon planned by Linda Bushong. Thanks to
Linda and her committee members for their efforts to make our closing delightful. Although we were finishing
our winter league, it felt like springtime when we entered the ballroom. The lovely table decorations were
appreciated by all.
Each member received a mug as an appreciation gift from the league this year. I tried my mug out with
both hot and cold beverages and was well satisfied with the results.
Even though our season was shortened this year due to a late start, our league experienced a successful
year with several social events and many interesting and challenging games. Congratulations to all President’s
Cup and Ringer Book winners as well as Most Improved Players and special pin winners. It’s my thought that
we are all winners when we play for the fun and the friendship.
I would like to thank the members of the executive board and all other girls who volunteered to help with
the league in one capacity or another. What makes the SCLGA a special group is how we all pull together to
help make our golfing and social events the best that they can be.
We have scheduled the SCLGA 2016-17 season opening for November 1st. Let’s all work together to make
the upcoming season better than ever. Hope to see you in the fall. Happy golfing to the summer league girls!

What’s New from the Golf Course?
For those of you that may or may not be aware of the upgrades and changes that will be occurring on the golf course
this summer, here is a look at what will be happening.
Come May 2nd, the back side greens construction project will be on its way. Holes 10-16 # 18 and # 1 will be getting
replaced. For the summer of 2016 we will play a 9 hole course. Holes 2-8 # 17 & # 9 will make the 9 holes that you will
play. We will have 2 sets for tees on each hole so that you will be able to play 18 different holes.
Along with the greens replacement project, we will be doing additional projects such as upgrades on the irrigation
system, trimming trees, repairing bridges and spraying out weeds on the course. With that being said we ask that EVERYONE remain off the back side of the golf course this summer at all times during this construction phase.
A lot of upgrades are occurring and we are very excited about making Schalamar Creek Golf Course the very best it can
be. We GREALTY appreciate your patience and understanding while we improve the community for all of you.
If anyone has any questions about the greens project, please feel free to contact us at 863-666-1623 or email us at
[email protected].
The Front side is open all summer long. The front side greens are improving every day. We are looking forward to
seeing you all out on the golf course this summer
Everyone have a great day and come on out to play some golf

Schalamar Tech Assist Team
Having problems using your computer or smartphone? Could you use a little help figuring it out? Or maybe
want to learn to use Skype, Facebook or FaceTime to keep in touch with friends and family? Help has arrived!
We have formed a team of people who are willing to help with your tech issues. There will be people who
can help with Apple devices like an iPhone, iPad or Mac computer and people who can help with non-Apple, or
Android, devices. We aren't experts, but have lots of experience and can help with many issues.
Here is a list of people who are presently on the team. If a person is not here in the summer, ‘seasonal’ will
be after the name. As we add names to the team, we will add to a list posted on the bulletin board.
Please call only after 9 AM and before 8 PM.
iPhone, iPad, Mac: Linda Gledhill—970-290-5843 seasonal Nov-April
iPhone, iPad, PC: Bette Johnson—320-305-1254 Some summer availability
Android, PC: Chris Eaton 450-2734
Android, PC: Ginny Reid 669-1963
Android, PC: Liz Conro 816-6795 seasonal Jan-April
We are looking for more people who would be willing to be on this team. We especially need some people
who have Apple, iPhone, iPad and Mac computer experience. If you can help, please call Linda Gledhill at 970290-5843 or email to: [email protected].
Seasonal Beauty
Diane Hastings
As the "busy" season winds down, we all seem to settle back, reflecting on all things past, particularly
how fast time flies. It seems as though we were just welcoming our northern friends, now we wish
them safe travels as they head back to their summer homes. Less traffic, less congestion, more time to
take in all our surroundings! Whether it's the beach, theme parks, shopping malls, historic sights or
our own neighborhood, enjoy and take the time to "smell the roses!"
In case you hadn't noticed, the roses welcoming all at the front entrance and creating a visual delight
on the picturesque drive into our community, are now in full bloom! With the perfectly manicured
shrubs and the rainbow of floral color, it reminds us of just how special our community is.
Should flowers be your source of enjoyment, Disney's annual Epcot Flower and Garden Show is in full
swing through the month of May; it too will provide hours of fun, exercise and sensory awakenings.
Incorporating urban farming, farm to table concepts, unique garden designs which will not only surprise but entertain all ages, this year's show....a must attend event!
A quick note to all, should you have plants that are still blooming, can't take them with you, but would
like to share their beauty with the community, please let us know. Our own Flower Man Bill Hastings,
will be happy to put their beauty in a special place for all to enjoy throughout the season!

CAP Volunteers Needed
Paper Recycling
We really appreciate your help in
keeping the planet green, but we
need to follow the rules for the
recycling bin by the clubhouse!!!
The CAP (Citizen Assisted Patrol) is a volunteer group under the direction of the Polk
County Sheriff’s Department. The volunteers perform a 2 hour
shift weekly around the streets of Schalamar Creek. Their mission is to OBSERVE and REPORT possible problems to the Sheriff’s
Department. The patrols start at 8 AM and end at 4 PM daily.
The summer is the hardest shifts to fill as many of our riders have
returned back north. The patrol is a nice way to see all of Schalamar and the many things going on and meet many residents and
their dogs. The cart is well known for carrying doggie treats and
our 4-footed friends know many of us well. If you think you
would enjoy the ride and are of the volunteering nature, we
would love to talk with you and show you what we have to offer.
You can contact Ray Mitchell at 863-816-6348, Gary Ross at 863668-8640, Sandy Schultz at 207-653-2695 or Ed Herring at 863666-1017 for further information.
