Take five guys from the suburbs, give
them a stage and they’ll show you what
having a good time is all about. They’ll
provide everything you need, and leave
you wanting more. It’s genius!
Sub*G is the band you’ve been hearing about from Northern New Jersey
to Philadelphia, Dewey Beach, Delaware
straight down to Ocean City, Maryland.
Playing clubs like Seacrets, The Rusty
Rudder, 15 North, LaCosta, Colorado
Cafe, Kildares, The Lagoon and many
more. Sub*G is the high-energy, modern
rock and 80’s party-band that will deliver today’s hard-hitting sounds and the
biggest dance grooves. Born and raised
on the Jersey Shore, Sub*G knows how
to throw a party. Their raw talent, overthe-top performance, and free-drink
giveaways make every show
unforgettable.
Sub*G covers modern rock in their own
way. They’ll mash up Rick Springfield with
Disturbed, or hammer out a medley of
80’s hits featuring Duran Duran to Guns ‘n
Roses, keeps the crowd wondering, “What
are these guys going to do next?”
Between sets Sub*G keeps the party going
by meeting and greeting fans, and running
spontaneous contests like “Birthday Singa-long” or “Name That Tune” Sub*G gets
everyone singing, gets the ladies dancing,
and keeps the party going right up until last
call.
4
Sub*G equally shares the responsibility
for the night. Every member plays multiple instruments and is able to front the
band at any time. JRock and Rick hold
together the bottom end with a pulsing
rhythm that draws people to the dance
floor. Nate will drop his keyboards to
pickup a guitar or lead a sing-a-long.
You can catch Chris rockin’ the mic
when he’s not slashing away on lead
guitar. Brian uses his smooth charm and
amazing vocal range to bring down the
house night after night.
A night out with Sub*G is not just another night out, it’s suburban genius!

5 Years of Local Music
by Jaclyn Myers Casale
What started in an apartment
in the fall of 2001, has evolved
into one of the regions most
recognizable resources for the
local music scene. Having gone
through the highs and lows f DIY
publishing, Origivation Magazine
has never strayed from its focus.
On Saturday, November 18th,
the first of three parties will
take place at The Pirates Den in
Gloucester City, NJ to honor of
its five-year anniversary.
The event promises to be something that should not be missed.
With several of the regions top
metal bands slated to perform,
guests will also be treated to
door prizes, free-bees and sponsor display tables. The first 100
people through the door will
also get a free limited-edition
Origivation Magazine t-shirt
designed specifically for this
event.
“The Pirates Den has been a
constant in our venue-starved
scene, a very positive influence.
Brian [Cohen, owner] has always
been there for hungry bands
looking for a stage. I’m very
grateful to have his support, not
only with the magazine, but for
special events like this.” Says editor Anthony Caroto.
Alas, let ye not be fooled- hitting
the five-year milestone with a
printed publication was not an
easy task, as those associated
with its monthly production can
attest to.
“There were definitely times
when we thought we’d have to
pack it in, most due to our financial situation. Things cost money.”
According to assistant editor
and head photographer Yaron
Gabai.
Today the publication thrives as
distribution and readership continue
to grow. Among the early credits
for inspiration and growth, Caroto
lists Out On the Town founder Mike
Vagnoni.
“Mike has always been there for me,
sharing his stories and suggestions.
That was very important, especially
in the early days- he even had me on
his radio show once. I think, from a
publishers standpoint, it’s important
to network and associate with those
who also think with their hearts and
not always with their wallets.” Says
Caroto.

MorningSide Invades The Northeast
MorningSide is coming home. For a band
whose travels have reached Virginia, New
York, New Jersey, Connecticut and all reaches of Pennsylvania, Northeast Philadelphia
has always been the place MorningSide calls
home. Sean MacGregor (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Pete DiCanto (Lead Guitar,Vocals), Joe
Mauro (Bass,Vocals) and Ben Kless (Drums)
will be headlining the Ashton Pub on Friday
night October 27, 2006 at 10pm with
Eric Mellor. MacGregor and Mauro grew
up in the Northeast around the corner
from the Ashton Pub so this homecoming is especially sweet.
“It’s a chance for us to play for those
we grew up with in a place that is so
familiar and enjoyed by the community,’’
says MacGregor. Morningside’s career
has been taking off. It started with their
involvement with local WMMR favorite,
Jaxon’s Local Shots CD Volume 1. MorningSide was asked to contribute their
single “Just Another Girl’’ to the album
as well as headline the CD Release
Party held last December. MorningSide
debuted their first full-length record
titled “Road Less Traveled’’ on April 29th
2006 with a CD release party at Grape
Street Philadelphia. More recently in July,
the band headlined the main stage at the
Trocadero Theater with some great local
bands and more than six hundred tickets
sold. Lately, MorningSide has been giving
back to the community through work
with charities such as the American
Heart Association and the Kutztown Library by performing at walks and charity
events in the area. “It’s a little way to say
thank you for all of those who work so
hard and give so much time and energy
for these worthwhile causes,” states
DiCanto.
So what’s next for a band that is headed
in the right direction? As Bon Jovi would
say, “who says you can’t go home”. Home
is where MorningSide will be on Friday,
October 27, 2006 at the Ashton Pub in
the Northeast. Local fans and neighbors
are invited to come to the show as well
as grab a copy of MorningSide’s first
full-length record for only $5. Don’t
miss a great rock show with a great local
favorite!

MEAT LOAF
AT
TRUMP TAJ MAHAL
NOVEMBER 10
Electric Factory presents Meat Loaf in
the Mark Etess Arena at Trump Taj Mahal on
Friday, November 10. Showtime is 8pm with
doors opening one hour prior.
In 1977, Meat Loaf made history with the
release of Bat Out of Hell, which featured
the smash hits “Paradise by the Dashboard
Lights,” “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad” and
“You Took the Words Right Out of My
Mouth.” Sixteen years later, lightning struck
twice with Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell,
which included the international chart-topper “I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t
Do That)” and earned Meat Loaf a Grammy
for Best Rock Vocal Solo Performance.
Combined, the two Batalbums sold nearly
50 million copies worldwide, establishing Bat
Out Of Hellas a true musical franchise. Now,
rock’s most epic adventure has returned once
more to complete the trilogy.
Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster is Loose
more than lives up to the standard of excellence set by its two predecessors, and stands
as one of Meat Loaf’s most symphonic, emo-
tional and personal journeys yet. The new
album captures the theatricality, elegance and
melodicism of the first two Bats, but it’s even
more diverse and dynamic, featuring a range
of orchestration and instrumentation that’s
nothing short of breathtaking. The album is
due to be released on October 31, 2006.
Meat Loaf has made appearances in such
movies as The Rocky Horror Picture Show,
Roadie,Fight Club, Wayne’s World, Out of
Bounds, The Squeeze, and Leap of Faith,
among a total of nearly 60 television and film
roles. At the outset of his performing career,
he also appeared onstage in Hair in Los Angeles, Detroit and on Broadway.
Ticket prices are $95, $75 and $65. Tickets
can be purchased by either calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-736-1420, online at www.
ticketmaster.com or in person at the Taj
Box Office. For box office hours and more

Wednesday, November 29th - 8pm
• $39.50
Hailed by their ever-expanding
fan base as “the greatest band on
Earth,” the super-sized acoustic
metal/comedy duo Tenacious D
was an unlikely success story. Few
people would imagine that two
chunky guys bashing on acoustic
guitars and singing songs can become one of the biggest cult bands
of this generation, but it happened.
With their sheer charisma, humor,
and energy, singers/guitarists/actors
Jack Black and Kyle Gass exploded
from LA’s underground comedy
scene to their own series on HBO
and a major-label album deal. That
was only the start. Now, the rock
superstars are going on tour to
support a new album and a New
Line Cinema movie! Their tour will
make a stops November 29 at the
Tweeter Center.
The new album, Pick of Destiny,
is highly anticipated by critics and
fans across the nation and set to
be released November 14. This
is the soundtrack to the musicalcomedy-adventure of the same
name that follows Tenacious D on
their quest to obtain a guitar pick
to become “the greatest band on
Earth,” which will arrive in theaters

film’s slew of guest appearances,
the CD also has guest voices, including Grammy-winner Meat Loaf

Sufjan Stevens at the Tower Theater
Sufjan Stevens was undoubtedly the
breakout artist of 2005. His album Illinois, the second in a series of albums
based on states, was ranked number
one on a huge number of top albums
lists last year. The hype surrounding the
album was everywhere, and it really
was well deserved. Illinois was ranked
number five out of my favorite albums
of last year, and I felt like Stevens really
had something going for him with the
states concept. If he could even finish
half the states by the end of his career,
I felt like he’d be remembered as one
of the great American artists. Over a
year has passed since the release of
Illinois but a new state album has yet
to come. I’m doubting he’ll ever even
get to half the states, and my prediction of him becoming one of the great
American singer/songwriters seems a
lot more outlandish now. But that’s all
beside the point. Whether or not he
finishes up making an album for every
state, he’ll at least be remembered for
writing some great songs.

The Never-ending Cycle
Another season ends without a title
by Josh Ellis
With the Philadelphia Phillies’ season
ending short of another playoff bid, the
streak of seasons without a championship for the city of Philadelphia grew.
The last team from Philadelphia to win
a major sports championship was the
76ers in 1983. Since then, it seems as
though a never-ending cycle of failure
has set itself firmly in the fabric of our
city’s teams.
The best theory anyone has come
up with yet for our sports teams is the
Curse of William Penn. Penn was the
founder of Pennsylvania and therefore a
statute of him was built atop City Hall
in Center City, Philadelphia. Because of
tradition, no building was to stand taller
than the statue, which stood 548 feet
tall, but in 1987 the city was expanding
and One Liberty Place was built to a
total of 945 feet, soaring over the statue
of Penn. Ever since then, it seems our
sports teams have taken the brunt of the
consequences from breaking tradition.
33
Volume 28 Number 11 • October 18, 2006 to November 8, 2006 • www.OOTWEB.com
Since 1987, Philadelphia franchises have not been necessarily
bad, but their consistency in
coming up short in the playoffs
and in championship games is
the cornerstone of the neverending cycle. The Philadelphia
Flyers have gone to and lost
two Stanley Cup Finals since
1983, once in 1987 and again
in 1997. The 76ers lost in the
2001 NBA Finals, the Phillies
in the 1993 World Series and,
most recently, the Eagles lost in
the Super Bowl in 2005. Additionally, teams from Philadelphia
have also lost seven conference
championships since 1987 as
well. With all the excitement
followed by crushing disappointment, is there any hope in sight
for any of our beloved teams?
The 76ers are ready to begin
a run to the NBA Finals, much
like they did in 2001. They
return much of the same faces
from the team a year ago that
finished 38-44 and missed the
playoffs by two games. Their
poor regular season granted
the Sixers a good draft choice,
for which they chose Rodney
Carney, a 6-7 forward from
Memphis. Veterans Allen Iverson and Chris Webber are back,
along with Samuel Dalembert
and Andre Iguodala but, with no
major moves being made, sadly
this looks like another year the
Sixers will be bottom dwellers
in the Atlantic Division.
The Flyers are looking to
rebound from a disappointing
season last year where they lost
in the first round of the playoffs
to the Buffalo Sabers. Off to a
slow start this season, captain
Peter Forsberg is back from
off-season surgery and trying
to lead this team with a core of
young stars back to the playoffs.
Sadly, the end of the Philly curse
isn’t likely to be broken by the
Flyers. They have too many
questions on this team, especially between the pipes with
goaltenders Antero Nittymaki
and Robert Esche having injury
and skill issues respectively.
The Philadelphia Phillies just
ended their season after an
exciting run towards the wild
card where they finished just
short again. With a young core
group of players the team looks
promising for next season and
may take a serious run at the
playoffs. But, the team with the
best chance for the city is the
Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles are
the city’s hope for a championship though in the near future.
Through the short season so
far, Donovan McNabb has been
as good as any player in the
NFL, Brian Westbrook continues to be an explosive offensive
option and our defensive line is
attacking opposing quarterbacks
with uncanny ability. It’s safe to
say that if one team in our great
city can pull off a championship
in the near future, the Philadelphia Eagles, carrying our prayers
with them on their backs every
Sunday, the holiest of days are
the team to do it.

Pippo’s
A Fantastic Dining Experience!
Pippo’s Restaurant
& Night Club
765 Second St. Pike
Southampton, PA
215-953-7775
A highly recommended Restaurant/club is “Pippo’s” on Second
Street Pike in Southampton,
PA. The establishment has been
there Fifteen years and was once
the Home of Entertainer Ernie
Palumbo in the 1970’s. It was then
the Hampton House and then 2
Streets. It is now owned and operated by George and his lovely wife.
It’s a 2 Floor combination nightclub/restauterant. This was the first
time I had dined there and was not
a bit disappointed with our visit.
My recommendation is that you
get there early to take advantage
of the early bird special menu
where selected entries prices
range from $7.95- $10.95 which
includes Soup, salad, a vegetable
or pasta and desert of the day, the
portions are overwhelming! It’s
truly a deal! For the regular dinner
hours expect a full menu for prices
then ranging from $8.95 to $22.95.
You’re seeking dining with atmosphere you say? Pippo’s is certainly
not lacking in any way in decor
and atmosphere. The marbleized
painted neutral walls give to a very
relaxing aura. The many carved
Greek Support columns add to
a sense of class and the tasteful
array of the gold framed artwork
and rich carpeting complete the
cultured sense of balance this restaurant has achieved. I felt very relaxed there and most importantly
un-rushed. The rating of service is
superb! When my pal Sandy Smith
and I arrived we stopped first at
the bar to say hi to Bartender”
Jimmy” who has been at that location for over 20 years. He’s not
slight with the vodka! We also met
with the manager “Dana” who was
also very pleasant and helpful with
our questions. Once seated we
both dug into the delicious warm
basket of home made Italian bread
and ordered appetizers of Grilled
Portobello Mushrooms with red
roasted peppers, smothered in
smoked mozzarella and sauce.
This was very good but the mushroom was flattened out and sliced
and then covered in the cheese
and sauce. I’m one who finds it
much more appealing to be served
with the whole visual effect of the
mushroom. The only small flaw I
found in our dining experience.
Sandy who is a strict vegetarian
was delighted at the selections
she was able to choose from such
as; Stuffed Shells, to Homemade
Spinach Ravioli to a splendid variety of garden salads. She decided
to try the eggplant Parmigiana
which was light and she exclaimed
it was so tender she cut it with a
fork! I selected my favorite which
is; chicken Parmigiana and the
portion was huge and also very
tender! The selection of the mozzarella cheese covering and sauce
was just perfect! There were other
very tempting entries that Chef
“Emad” prepares such as: Lasagna,
Spinach and Cheese Manicotti, and
Grilled Salmon with Plum tomatoes and pine nuts. The variety of
seafood menu really peaked my
interest! Our Waitress “Diane”
suggested I try the homemade
rice pudding for desert and that
was also delicious! Diane showed
me around the facility and I was
surprised at their very nice formal
banquet room that holds from
40-120 and can be rented out for
weddings and special occasions
which I also found very warm and
inviting and eloquently decorated
in shades of Peach. Downstairs
there is a very nice private
nightclub reminisce of the 1940’s
era in the terms of ambiance.
A very cozy and intimate atmosphere. Dana Explained they have
live entertainment as well in the
evenings there such as; “Harry O”
with Karaoke, and Joe Cavaliere
on Wednesdays and singer Debbie
Knight on Fridays and Saturdays.
Look for a very good band called
the “Night Owls” playing hits
from the 60’s to today appearing
on October 20th. They also try
to have Comedy nights too. They
are open seven days a week and
also have a Happy hour MondayFriday 5-7 with a buffet. All in all I
would give our recommendation
of Pippo’s a very high rating as it
was an extremely pleasant dining
experience!

THIS DOG CAN DANCE
things that it doesn’t need. Soon we tire as
the song turns unruly. Specialists must be
called. Opinions are offered. Blows are exchanged, teeth loosened, adhesives applied.
Each one of our young songs goes through
such a phase – a kind of musical version
of the “terrible two’s”. However, all must
be patient. The song simply needs time
to grow. We love a song no matter which
direction that it chooses in life – as long as
it is happy and well paid.
THIS DOG CAN DANCE is a
4-piece original rock band from Cherry
Hill, NJ and is comprised of guitar, keyboards, bass and drums. Known as “The
Thinking Man’s Pop Music”, THIS DOG
CAN DANCE can excite and delight
crowds with original songs that will
leave an audience singing them back to
themselves even after the first time they
hear them. This phenomenon is known
as “earworms.” ……….songs that stay
with the listener. The band takes their
songs seriously on their newly released
CD entitled “Between Medications.” So
seriously, that there is a method – or a
process – behind each track………and
it goes like this: From what we can best
surmise, a song first appears to us after
it has broken orbit and fallen from the
cosmos. Partially burned from re-entry,
the song is a sad almost horrific sight.
We quickly wrap the wayward tune in a
warm blanket, nourish it and try to make
it feel at home. Each of us takes turns
sitting with the song – feeding it – and
dare I say, even sleeping with it. The song
begins to keep us up at night. It drains
us. We spoil the song. We give the song

Fall TV Shows in the Nutshell
I know I’m not the only one glued to the
Tube with the return of so many good TV
shows this fall! Who could miss LOST?
The keep you on the edge of your seat
writing for this show still appears to be just
as good as last season with the return of
the same cast. Jack, Freckles and Sawyer
were the main focus last week as they are
held captive by the “Others “ with bad boy
Sawyer naturally making several unsuccessful attempts to escape. So far it looks
like another great season of LOST! A new
show starring John Lithgow called “Twenty
Good Years” left me kinda Agh..John was
great in “Third Rock from the Sun” and
I guess I was hoping for that same funny
persona. I sure hope the writing picks up.
Another comedy I’m so so about it “Ugly
Betty” which about a dumpy unattractive
poor girl landing a job in a High Fashion
magazine and trying her best with her
dorkis ways. Writing predicable and more
geared to the adolescent scale where I’m
sure in the end the ugly duckling with turn
into a beautiful swan and live happily ever
after.
A new show called “Heroes” on Monday
nights is Maintaining my interest at best.
The effects are great which is based on
come alive comic book super hero’s that
are here to save the world. Good casting
but more geared for the teen age mind in
my opinion. Following that show is a great
new show called “Studio 60.” Now this
show may see an award is my prediction!
Excellently casted with Matthew Perry and
Bradley Whitford. Shows the viewer the behind the scenes overall of a television show
production such a Saturday night live.
“Greys Anatomy” which is one of the
best shows on TV right now came back with
a bang! Meredith finally made her choice
following an emergency appendectomy and
Izzy was given quite a surprise from beyond
38
the grave from her former deceased love played
by Robert Downey, Jr. Another Hospital favorite
is “HOUSE” and I just love Dr. Gregory House
played by Hugh Laurie and wish he were my
doctor. I love bluntness and no one on TV is
more blunt then House! My heart was broken
to see the non return of “Windfall” which again
I thought was superbly casted and I rather liked
the fairy tale notion of a bunch of friends each
winning 20 Million dollars.I hope they do bring
that back again! My heart was not broken as
I didn’t see the listings of “Alien Nation” this
season. How many of you knew that show was
produced by the once teen idol Shaun Cassidy?
That show started out good but lost my interest quickly. I think we’ve all been exposed to as
many of the little green men movies and shows
now to last us a lifetime.
“Boston Legal” another favorite of many returned and again the writing of the show I predict will maintain most of their fan base another
good season. Excellent casted with William
Shatner, Candice Bergen and my favorite James
Spader! James dry laid back humor just tickles
me! It’s nice to see Clarisa Flockhart (Ali McBeal) return to TV but I’m not so sure this new
show “Brothers and Sisters” also casted with
Sally Field as the mother is going to maintain my
interest for to much longer. These “The Walton’s
have dark secrets” type of family TV shows
become “ho hum” after a while. Peyton Place already had it’s day, we’ll see if this picks up speed
or not. Finally my dear pal rocker Don Dokken is the one who got me totally addicted to
“Desperate Housewives.” I called his house one
night on a Sunday and he answers impatiently
“Not now Lynn, Desperate Housewives is on
and I can’t miss Eva Longoria” OK OK...so I was
compelled to finally find out what all this buzz
was about and have been hooked ever since
(thanks Don!)! Eva reminds me of this generations “Joan Collins” AKA Alexis Carrington of
Dynasty. Eva fits the role perfectly as the rich
diva bitch much as Joan did in Dynasty. The
casting is perfect and the twists and turns of the
writing leave you hunger for the next show! I
have yet to miss one in fact! In my opinion the
still the best show on TV. Get hooked!

Astrology
By Psychic Perry B.
Aries (March 21-April 19) Adventure seems
to be your middle name. Surprise is normal so
expect the unexpected. Look a little deeper into
things right now and think decisions through
carefully. Try not to be too pushy it might get you
into trouble. You need a change of scenery get
yourself out.
Taurus (April 20-May 20) You are in a whirlwind
right now and too much is coming in at you all at
once. Make sure that you are on solid ground and
tighten up loose ends. Be sure that a project you
are working on is on track. Do not let others
distract you. Keep in mind that you are not alone,
so ask for help if you need it.
Gemini (May 21-June 20) You will be happier if
you don’t try to control things at this moment.
Take care how you judge other people, stay open
minded as much as you can. There is potential for
growth and opportunity. Stay the course and you
will achieve what you are looking for.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Your insight is very
sharp and your ability to understand what is going
on takes you in a new direction. Friends will think
you have changed your thinking but that is not
true. You are just approaching it from a different
point of view. Talk it over with them and they will
see it your way.
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22) Money seems to be the
issue at this time. Know how you want to deal
with it and it will work out. Spend wisely and
be sure you don’t get caught up in over indulging in that witch you want instead of the things
you need. Take someone shopping with you that
will keep you grounded. It will aid in your buyers
remorse later.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) You have changed quite a
bit and are looking at things from a different view
from the past. Be aware of what is being said and
listen carefully it will give you better understanding of how things really are. Now is a time to
keep your opinions to yourself and listen to others. They are looking from the outside in.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22) Tighten up the ground
rule and let people know you have done so, even
though you are not sure of what you intend to
do yourself. Stand your ground and it will come
to you. Take a hard look at relationship and be
sure it is where you want it to be. A fresh start is
usually a good thing.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21) Things are changing
around you very quickly and it is if you are spinning. Take aim at what you are looking for and
although you are shooting at a moving target you
could hit your mark. Make the changes work for
you and you will see a big improvement. Someone at work needs to be shown the way.
Sagittarius (Nov.22-Dec. 21) Keeping an eye on
a situation right now will benefit you later. Try not
to let it get out of hand. Just remember that you
cannot do it all, so seek some help. Taking on too
much will divide you and you could lose control.
When questions come up answer them openly.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan 19) You are stretched
too thin and too much is coming in at you at one
time. Prioritize and only get done what you can
handle. A loved one is feeling your strain and it
could hurt the relationship. Make time for love
and let smaller thing wait. You will get a clearer
picture of things once you clear the clutter.
Aquarius (Jan.20-Feb 18) Take care when dealing
with others. Try not to get overly involved. By
waiting for the dust to settle you will have more
impact. A loved one may upset you, but it really is
not your fault they are just lashing out at whom
ever is closest. Look for a major change around
the end of the month.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) Don’t allow yourself to get overly involved in things at this time.
People have a habit of pulling you in and before
you know it you are in the middle of a major war
you have nothing to do with at all. Try to relax, as
much as you can, your batteries need recharging.
Get to a club and dance your stress away.

DONNY’S JOKE CORNER JOURNEY AND DEF LEPPARD
asked her father, “Daddy, what the
heck was that?” Shocked, but not
wanting to expose his little girl to
anything sexual at such a young
age, the father replied, “It.....it
was only a bug, Honey.” The daughter sat with a confused look on her
face, and after a moment said ....
“Sure had a big dick, didnʼt it?”
SOUTHWEST AIRLINES
A mother and her very young son
were flying Southwest Airlines from
Kansas City to Chicago. The little
boy (who had been looking out
the window) turned to his mother
and asked, “If big dogs have baby
dogs, and big cats have baby cats,
why donʼt big airplanes have baby
airplanes?”
The mother (who couldnʼt think of
an answer) told her son to ask the
stewardess.
So the boy went down the aisle and
asked the stewardess. The
stewardess, who was very busy at
the time, smiled and said, “Did your
Mom tell you to ask me?”
The boy said, “yes she did.” “Well,
then, you go and tell your mother
that there are no baby airplanes
because Southwest always pulls out
on time. Have your Mom explain
that to you.”

WIND DOWN SUMMER CONCERT SERIES AT THE BORGATA
By Rob Nagy
The Borgata played host to
their last official concert of the
summer when Journey and Def
Leppard graced the stage of
the main ballroom on September 22. Journey and Def Leppard have toured the U.S. all
summer long playing to packed
venues in what has turned
into one of the most successful tours of the year. Journey
went on at 8:00 P.M. playing
an amazing 90-minute set,
which included all the “Journey” classics we have come
to know and love to a crowd
of awe struck fans. The band
continues to be anchored by
longtime members Neil Schon
on guitar, Ross Valory on bass
and Jonathan Cain on keyboard
and guitar. With Steve Perry no
longer a part of “Journey” the
duties of lead vocals were split
between drummer Deen
Castronovo and vocalist
Jeff Scott Soto, who is filling in for the ailing Steve
Augeri. Augeri started
the tour in June but was
forced to leave due to
strained vocal chords. The
band could not have been
any tighter and sound
any better. If one didn’t
know better you would
have thought this was the
“Journey” we have always
known. The crowd of
3,000 plus went nuts with
every note often singing
in time with every word.
Both Castronovo and
Soto were right on with
every note. Neil Schon
was on fire playing as
good as ever proving that
he is still one of the most
dynamic guitarists on the
planet. Highlights included
the songs “Only The
Young”, “Don’t Stop Believin”, “Faithfully”, “Open
Arms” and “Wheel In
The Sky”. Through-out
the show up close visuals
were projected on large
screens behind the stage
and out front to each side
giving those in the back a
view that they would otherwise not see and those
up front a larger then life
effect. A visual history of
“Journey” through the
years was mixed in complete with vintage photos
and footage recognizing a band that has truly
stood the test of time
and showing no signs of
aging. With no immediate
plans for a new album
they continue to promote
their most recent release
“Generations”, a collection of new material featuring the vocal abilities
of various band members,
which was released last
fall on the Sanctuary label
and is available in stores
and on-line.
Def Leppard closed
out the evening playing
an intense 90 minutes,
which featured many of
their classics as well as
selections off the bands
current release “Yeah!”
Sporting their most
consistent line-up going
on sixteen years now,
Def Leppard features
Joe Elliott on vocals,Viv
Campbell on guitar, Phil
Collen on lead guitar, Rick
Allen on drums and Rick
Savage on bass. The band
was greeted with equal
enthusiasm to that of
“Journey”. With the main
floor was standing room

could be seen sitting or
not dancing their entire

set. Joe Elliott’s voice was at
its best, while the entire band
played meticulously with lots
of enthusiasm. Phil Collen and
Viv Campbell sounded great
together playing licks that
would stand up against any
duo. Drummer Rick Allen, a
fan favorite, played his typical
amazing drum work earning huge applause from the
Def Leppard loyalists. While
there wasn’t a single song that
wasn’t impressive standouts
included “Rock of Ages”, “Hysteria”, “Pour Some Sugar On
Me” and “Photograph”. Staying consistent with the theme
of the evening’s production,
Def Leppard also presented a
visual montage of the history
of the band adding to the
longevity of one of the most
dynamic bands to emerge
over the past three decades.
On October 24 Def Leppard
will be releasing a special edition of Hysteria, the group’s
best-selling album and one of
the pre-eminent rock albums
in music history. The release
celebrates the album’s upcoming 20th anniversary with
a two-CD Hysteria - Deluxe
Edition (Bludgeon Riffola/Island/UMe). Never one to just
sit back and enjoy the fruits
of their labor, Def Leppard
is continuing to work on
their next studio album while
on tour with an expected
release in 2007. No word on
what the new release will be,
but if it is true to Def Leppards style it is sure to be
another great body of work.
Journey and Def Leppard
take a brief two-week break
before going back out on
the road together through
the end of November where
the tour will wind down in
Puerto Rico on November
19. Journey hits the road after
the holidays to do a tour of
the UK. Def Leppard will take
some needed time off before
heading back out on tour in
the spring when they have
a new album to promote. If
you missed the chance to see
these two legendary acts you
don’t want to miss them next
time they come through town.
