Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Bordeaux Train Station at 10:45 AM, and a 60-minute shuttle will
bring you to Saint-Michel-de-Montaigne, a picturesque village east of Bordeaux. After enjoying a delightful
picnic, you will be professionally fitted on your Trek Domane bicycle before biking toward the medieval town of
St. Emilion, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating to prehistoric times and an important red wine growing area.
The afternoon ride will take you along the Dordogne River and through quaint farmlands, ancient forests and
charming villages to our luxury hotel. Stroll the grounds before meeting on the terrace for a welcome drink and
overview of the week. Tonight, you’ll enjoy a gastronomic dinner featuring local specialties to celebrate our first

This morning’s leisurely ride will introduce you to the seasonal work of the vineyards. You’ll ride through rolling
vineyards to an exquisite lunch at Château Grand Barrail that your guides have arranged. Meander on quiet
roads then relax in our luxurious hotel, or stroll through the cobblestone streets of the charming and lively
medieval village of St. Emilion. This evening, prepare yourself for an arduous scholastic endeavor—wine school!

Description:
Today will be a quintessentially French day. Bordeaux is the most popular destination for French travelers, and
one of the most popular activities is meandering along the area's "wine routes" to taste some the area's wines.
Take your time on today's ride through the Dordogne Valley and its vineyards to stop at estates such as
Château Gaillard, Château Pipeau and Château Haute-Nauve. Chat with local producers and taste their wines if
you'd like. Lunch will be on your own today, and you may spend the afternoon exploring St. Emilion or continue
riding through the wine growing territory known as Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux. The ride even goes by a
biological preserve known for its abundance of orchids and two protected species of butterflies. Tonight we'll
reconvene as a group for a casual dinner together.

Description:
This morning’s route will take you across the Dordogne River into the largest wine producing area of the
Bordelais—the Entre-Deux-Mers. In addition to its wine reputation, the area was the site of many battles during
the Hundred Years' War. You’ll cruise along the bike path and make your way to a small village where you'll
enjoy lunch near an 11th century abbey founded by the Benedictines. This afternoon, you’ll ride through
vineyards and quiet roads to cross the Garonne river, leading you to the village of Martillac, center of the Pessac
Leognan appellation. Further down the road, you’ll reach your luxurious home for the next two nights, Les
Sources de Caudalie. Later, you’ll gather with the rest of the group on the terrace for a cocktail before a dinner
at La Table du Lavoir, known for its stellar menu highlighting the region’s fresh produce and other local
specialties.

Scenic and varied riding through the famous vineyards of Sauternes and Barsac are the highlight of today’s
ride. Quiet vineyard roads lead you to the village of Sauternes, whose namesake wine is internationally known
for its quality and distinctively sweet taste. Opportunities abound for dégustations (wine tastings) along the route.
A quaint local bistro will fuel you for either the afternoon’s ride or an afternoon back at Les Sources de Caudalie
to relax. This evening, the group will gather for a private wine tasting and tour of the famous Château Smith Haut
Lafitte. After the visit, you’ll meet for dinner with the rest of the group at the hotel's 2-star Michelin restaurant, La
Grande Vigne, to enjoy the creations of Chef Nicolas Masse, a dinner fit for royalty.

How to get there
We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk
of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into Paris (CDG) and transferring on to Bordeaux. From
the Charles de Gaulle Airport, you may take a commuter flight to Bordeaux. Air France has numerous daily departures. If you must
travel the day of our trip, there is a flight leaving Paris on Air France at 7:15 AM arriving in Bordeaux at 8:30 AM. Contact them at

www.AirFrance.com for more details. From the Bordeaux Airport, you may take a shuttle service into Bordeaux (6€) or opt for a short
taxi ride (20€). If you’d rather, from Paris you may take the high speed TGV train directly to Bordeaux from Charles de Gaulle Airport (3
hours) or the Montparnasse station in the city of Paris. For all train travel, feel free to confirm train times and fares on the posted
timetable on France’s rail site, www.SNCF.com.
Meeting Time and Location

Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Bordeaux St. Jean train station (Gare Saint-Jean 33800 Bordeaux) at 10:45 AM on the first
day of the trip. To find your guides, exit the train station keeping the McDonalds on your left. Café du Levant will be across the street.
After a 60-minute shuttle, you’ll arrive in one of the picturesque villages of the region. After enjoying a delightful picnic, you will be
professionally fitted on your Trek bicycle before biking toward the medieval town of St. Emilion, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. You will receive an email a week before
the trip start with their names and contact details. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, Hostellerie de Plaisance (+33
(0)5 57 55 07 55), and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details. You may take a taxi to the first night’s
hotel for approximately 50€.

On all of our vacations, Trek Travel strives to find quiet, paved secondary roads or bike paths to experience a region; busy roads are
avoided as much as possible. Bordeaux is best suited for our Type 2 Riders. Our Trek Travel guides can also easily accommodate
Type 1 Riders, who seek less mileage or fewer uphills, with a boost in the van. Those who wish to ride every mile but are concerned
about their physical ability may want to try our electric bike option–you still get a workout but can climb alongside even the strongest
rider. Type 3 Riders will enjoy the extra mileage the avid route options offer. The terrain is mostly flat terrain, with some rolling hills and
quiet winding roads lined with vineyards.There are some short steep climbs near St. Emilion. See Itinerary for specific daily ride
distance and elevation options.
What are the options for a non-rider travel companion?
On most Trek Travel trips, we offer non-riding options for riders who want to take the afternoon off, or travel companions who want to
spend little or no time in the saddle. Some of these options may need to be scheduled before your trip–please contact one of our Trip
Consultants for more information. Expenses and/or related transportation to these activities may not be included in the trip price. See

What is the weather going to be like?
The Bordeaux region enjoys a warm climate. July and August bring temperatures in the 60s to low 80s. Rain is always a possibility, so
be prepared with the proper rain gear in order to best enjoy your vacation.
Do you have upgrade options available?
For an additional fee you may request to upgrade to the brand new Trek Emonda SLR with Shimano Di2 Electronic shifting or
Bontrager Aeolus carbon wheels for the ultimate riding experience. Contact our trip consultants for more details.
If I book a tour, can I be guaranteed that it will run?
If you’re going we’re going on almost all our trips. Trips with 1 guest booked are guaranteed to run. Select trips like Cross Country,
Race and Special Edition trips require a minimum number of guests to run and are not guaranteed until that number is reached.

In the event that a departure has low enrollment, we will notify guests at 60-90 days before departure to give the option to select a
different date with more guests booked. Please do not reserve airfare before confirming your Trek Travel trip.
What kind of information is provided?
When a trip is booked, a guest confirmation letter is immediately sent out. One week prior to the trip start you will receive an email
containing a trip start meeting location reminder and any last minute information that you will need to know before your trip. Once you
arrive at your destination Trek Travel staff will brief you on the day-to-day plan for the trip and provide you with daily route guides and a
detailed map allowing you to ride with complete confidence and independence.
