1/2 C. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 C. creamy peanut butter + 1/4 C. reserved
1/4 C. unsalted butter, room temperature
3/4 C. granulated sugar
1/4 C. brown sugar
1 large egg
4 Tbsp. grape jelly
1/4 C. plus 2 Tbsp. confectioners sugar
1-1/2 Tbsp. whole milk
1 C. chopped peanuts(roasted and lightly salted)
•Preheat the oven to 3500. In a small bowl, stir together the flour and baking powder. Set aside. In the
bowl of a mixer, blend 3/4 cup of the peanut butter
with the butter on medium speed. Add the granulated
sugar and brown sugar and beat until smooth, about
5 minutes. Beat in the egg until incorporated. Stir in
the reserved flour mixture until just combined. Using a small (1-1/2”) ice cream scoop, drop the dough
2 inches apart on 2 ungreased baking sheets. Gently make a thumb print in the center of each cookie.
Spoon about 1/2 teaspoon of jelly into each center.
Bake until lightly golden, about 10-12 minutes. Transfer to a rack and let cool. In a small bowl, beat together
the remaininig 1/4 cup of peanut butter and the confectioners sugar. Whisk in the milk, a little at a time,
until the frosting reaches a good consistency for piping. Using a resealable sandwich bag with a tiny corner snipped off, pipe the frosting over the cookies. Top
with a sprinkling of chopped peanuts. Enjoy!

John, do you want to spend the rest of your life
selling sugared water, or do you want a chance to
change the world?”
That was the challenge Steve Jobs issued in 1983 to
John Sculley, then president of Pepsi-Cola. Mr. Jobs
was the creative genius behind Apple Computer. He
knew that the soft-drink executive could help Apple
make its mark on the computer world. Sculley accepted the bold challenge.
Jesus issued a challenge to three fishermen as they
tended their nets. He commanded, “Follow Me!”
(Mk. 1:17). They did, and with a handful of other
ordinary men they changed the world. On the Day
of Pentecost the promised Holy Spirit began a new
work through them, and 3,000 were saved (Acts
2). Eventually critics would charge that they had
turned the world “upside down” (Acts 17:6).
Our world is wrong-side up and right-side down, living by principles opposed to our Lord’s teachings.
We can either follow the world’s dead-end philosophies, or we can accept Jesus’ challenge to bring
change to the world.
Today let’s serve God by praying, giving, and
witnessing in our small corner. One day the King of
kings will return and transform the whole world!

SOME THOUGHTS THAT
COULD CHANGE HOW YOU HUNT
SPRING GOBBLERS (PART 1 OF 2)
“Run and gun” is a sports term typically used to describe a fast-paced, up-tempo offense that frequently
results in high scoring. Normally associated with
basketball, I have heard color commentators and
sports journalists also use the phrase to describe aggressive offensive styles in both football and hockey.
There is another common use of the term “run and
gun” completely separate from the world of competitive athletics. It is additionally a colloquialism in the
outdoor realm of spring turkey hunting and I’m sure
there are a few, possibly many, practitioners amongst
our regular Weekly Bargain Bulletin readers. How it
plays out in the spring turkey woods is somewhat
similar to how it is executed on the basketball court,
football field, or hockey rink; since it involves a lot
of movement and can be a high risk/high reward
method of filling your spring turkey tag. For those
not familiar with the outdoor practice, please let me
explain.
Many spring turkey hunters either identify a gobbler on the roost in the pre-dawn darkness using a
locator call (owl, crow, peacock, etc.) or they head to
a predetermined spot in the woods by putting a bird
to roost the night before or based on prior scouting. Once legal shooting hours start one half-hour
before sunrise, they attempt to entice a gobbler to
come to them using a wide variety of hen vocalizations employing some sort of mouth, box, or friction
call. With many turkey hunters, if a gobbler doesn’t
respond at all or if a gobbler responds, but sounds
like he won’t come in or is moving away from the
hunter’s stationary location; they frequently move to
another location after only 15 to 20 minutes to try to
locate a different bird or to intercept the gobbler that
had “talked back”, but never came in. Throughout
the morning, during the first two weeks of spring
turkey season when hunting is only permitted until
12 PM (Noon) and then throughout the day during
the last two weeks when hunting is permitted until
a half-hour after sunset, some turkey hunters are
constantly moving and setting up to try to locate a
willing bird to entice in. This “run and gun” style of
turkey hunting normally involves moving several
hundred yards between calling sites, but can include
driving to multiple locations where birds have been
previously sighted. I have to admit that I too was predominantly a “run and gun” spring turkey hunter before I read something a few years ago that changed
my “go-to” turkey hunting method.
One of my favorite outdoor writers is Judd Cooney,
who for several decades wrote a monthly column on
calling wildlife in Fur-Fish-Game Magazine. A virtual
Dr. Dolittle who is extremely proficient in talking to
the animals, Mr. Cooney shared stories and practical
advice on calling coyotes, deer, turkey, fox, bobcat,
wolves, bears, javelinas, raccoons, squirrels, crows,
elk, moose, and just about every other North American species you can possibly call in. When Judd talks
(or actually writes), I listen and find I am constantly
learning something new that I can apply to my hunting practices. In addition to being a prolific outdoor
writer, he is also an accomplished guide and leases
tens-of-thousands of acres in Iowa for trophy whitetails and spring turkey hunts. A few years ago, he apparently became frustrated with many of his spring
turkey hunting clients who were placed in excellent
spots in the predawn darkness. When he found
those hunters who were left on-their-own frequently
elected to “run and gun” to new locations and many
individuals he remained with demanded to relocate
within 30 minutes, if a gobbler didn’t come right in;
he conducted his own research project on spring
gobbler behavior.
The results may astonish you, like they did me, and
next week I’ll share how Judd Cooney’s sage advice
was key to my recent harvest of a magnificent gobbler with a 101⁄2 inch beard on opening day, April 30,
2016 in Neshannock Township. You too can employ
this same strategy on a 2016 spring gobbler before

Flip tabs: Here is a super simple way to make some flip tabs
in your scrapbook. Get precut
tags or cut your own flap and
use a cute matching piece of
Washi Tape to attach it to your
page. This gives you extra space
to put more pictures or journaling on a page.
An example of a cute way to use this would be
before and after photos. Have a picture of your
1 year old before his smash cake on the flap
and then an after he makes a mess picture
under the tab.
Movies: This is a cute way to
fill a page or spread. Keep all
your movie stubs for a year.
And even keep track of who
you went to see each movie
with. Now fill up a page or
spread, depending on how
many movies you see in a year,
with the tickets and journal
who you went with and even
what you went for if it was a
special occasion.
Sand Pocket: Did you take a trip to the beach?
Maybe you grabbed a little sand and would like
to incorporate it. You can always try gluing it
to the page, which normally ends in a mess
and doesn’t’ stay or you can try this instead.
Buy some of those little baggies they sell in
craft stores for jewelry and beads and place
your sand inside. Now you can close it up and
use some Washi Tape to attach the baggy to
your scrapbook. This is a safe and clean way of
keeping sand in your scrapbook. This would
also work for hair from a first hair cut, a dried
flower, and more.
