an explanation of what is in the pack and
some amusing ideas to get your creative

1 Plan to Pimp it Purple
First decide what you want to pimp up. Next, think
about where the pimpin’ is going to take place - at
home, at work or maybe at another venue.
Think about when you want to do it? Any time during
December is pimptastic.
Then think about who to involve or invite and start
spreading the #pimpitpurple word.
2 Pimpin’ Purple feels good
It’s all about fun so kick back and enjoy the ride! Use
balloons and stickers to pimp up your experience and

Remember… your Purple Pimpin’ will help
kidney patients like Matthew and Amanda.
Nicola’s son, Matthew, 10, has been on the waiting list for a transplant for seven years.
“It’s very scary that we rely on a machine to keep our son alive. I’m actually surprised that we’re at
10 years old. Especially because he hasn’t had a kidney and spent such a long time on dialysis. What
Matthew really needs is a donor. His chances of finding a match are only three in 10,000.
Being on the waiting list is torture. You can’t go anywhere – you have to be within four hours of
your hospital. If the phone rings late at night you pounce on it because you think ‘is it going to be a
transplant call?’ Despite everything, Matthew is a fighter. I’m really proud of the fact that he doesn’t
let it get him down.”
Amanda Craig is waiting for a kidney from her mum.
Amanda has to hook herself up to a dialysis machine for eight hours a night, every night.
Since starting dialysis Amanda’s appetite has deteriorated and sometimes she experiences painful leg
cramps and fatigue. “When I first started on dialysis I was worried about not being able to take trips away.
But it’s all doable – it just takes good organisation. The dialysis machine is portable, and taking enough
medical equipment cleaning supplies is a must. I am on the transplant list. It’s unnerving not knowing
when I will get a kidney, but I try to make the most of the situation and hope to move forward very soon.”
We are striving to make transplanted kidneys work better and last longer so that patients like Matthew
and Amanda can get their lives back. By taking part in Pimp it Purple you are helping fund vital
research into the causes of kidney disease, prevention and better treatments.
Remember, once you’ve taken part you can send us your donation online at

and we’ll take the payment over the phone. Thank you.
