I hope this newsletter finds you all enjoying the greater things in life! Becky and I sure had a great time the last couple of weekends with our ACA friends. We drove to Sacramento and met up with Pat and Gary Adams as well as Gene and Rosalie Owens on our way up to the Nor Cal rally in Clio CA where we also met up with about a half dozen other SoCal members and a fair share of Nor Cal members for a total of 18 rigs. The weather was perfect and the RV Park and surrounding area was beautiful with pine trees as far as you could see. Monday morning after a great rally in Clio a group of about 9 rigs all headed south and toward the coast to arrive early for the So Cal San Juan Bautista Rally at the Betabel RV Resort. When we arrived Ken & Cheryl Brummett, Don & Mary Ferderer as well as Ginny Wenzel were already hard at work decorating the club house and making runs to Costco and other places unknown collecting all the goodies we enjoyed the rest of the rally. They did a great job of decorating the place. We ended up having 25 rigs which was a great turn out! Ken, Don and Sal Speziale all slaved over the babeque cooking chicken for the group one night. While Cheryl, Mary and Ginny hit the kitchen the first night making spaghetti and some great garlic bread for 50 of us hungry souls. We all enjoyed exploring the area with Gilroy just to the north and the small town of San Juan Bautista to the south with its old state run historic mission and a unique street of shops. The turnout was great and we saw some members we have not seen in quite some time like Susie and Chuck Damart, Myrna & Paul Lazereta, as well as Don & Soraya Skinner to name a few. Not to mention the opportunity to see the rest of the crew and a few Nor Cal members as well. There were a few we missed. Starting with Rob and Cindy Madore who had to cancel at the last minute because their home was flooded while they were out traveling so they had to cancel and go find a new place to move (doesn’t sound like fun at all). Ben and Beverly Petty were unable to make it while Ben was busy getting a new pacemaker. I guess that’s a fairly good excuse for not making it to a SoCal rally. But Ben is doing fine. We also had expected to see Joe and Debbie Darby but it turns out their coach wanted to stay at the paint shop a little longer than expected. I hate when that happens. For those that were able to make the rally, we were treated to great food, a great opportunity to visit with some great friends. We also enjoyed some great oompah music from a local couple that our hosts found from the little town of San Juan Bautista. And the RV Resort was very accommodating. They had a very large open grass area check out your web site: www.socalaca.com ACA Southern California Chapter Membership Newsletter –November 2015 for all our furry friend to run freely in. Well Abby wasn’t that thrilled with the Adams new little family member Sheela trying to steel her ball! But all went well at the end. There were no new nominees for the renowned “T” award. So it will remain in the hands of Norm Olsen until the next unsuspecting member is either spotted making that next mistake or is thrown under the bus by a close friend or loved one. Happy 40th Anniversary Charlie & Sharon Oktoberfest 2015 Rallies: So Cal, Nor Cal and South West are responsible for putting on the Western regional rally. We are excited to tell you that the rally will be held at the Golden Village Palms RV Resort in Hemet California. Arrive Thursday March 31st and depart Monday morning April 4th. So plan to join the “Ship of Fools” for the April Fools Western Regional Rally. We will surely have plenty of foolish activities to enjoy by all. Save the date. The Roses are putting the details together for a rally at Pechanga Casino and RV Resort in Temecula over the Mother’s day weekend May 6th 7th and 8th. So grab mom and head on down and join us. I understand she has 25 spots. Details will be coming out shortly. So mark your calendar. Some family member RV spots may be available We are looking for folks to put on a local So Cal rally once a quarter. So please help us out and recommend a location, and maybe volunteer your time, and we will surely help you make it happen! Bob and Becky Clapper Charlie and Sharon Miller were joined by family and friends for a 40th wedding anniversary celebration down in Temecula, CA. Dressed all in white, the happy couple renewed their wedding vows. Charlie wore the same suit he wore the day of the wedding and it still fit perfectly! After the ceremony, and some introductions & remarks from Sharon, a brief film was shown highlighting their 40 years. Before dinner was served, they even took a turn on the dance floor, with Sharon leading this time! It was obvious they are as much in love as ever. Congratulations from your ACA Family! Other officers present were: Ken Brummett, Vice President, and Susan Rose, Secretary. WELCOME President Clapper welcomed everyone to the Betabel RV Resort. He commented that some of the people at this rally had just come from the Norcal rally at Clio’s River Edge RV park in Clio, CA. Skip Dieter had a poker run set up that took participants all around the local area so that everyone could see the lovely venue which included “the coolest ACE hardware, ever!” This venue is North of Truckee and West of Reno. President Clapper also gave thanks to the wagon masters, Ken and Cheryl Brummett, Don and Mary Ferderer, and Ginny Wenzel who unfortunately had to leave the rally early due to a family emergency. SECRETARY'S MINUTES The Minutes from the prior Chapter meeting held in Goshen, Indiana had not been officially prepared but were reported on orally by the secretary. Art Bridges made a Motion to approve the Minutes as related and Leslie Speziale seconded. The motion was passed. TREASURER'S REPORT 6-9, 2016 (3 nights). Susan Rose is the wagon master and she is looking for helpers from the members who do not plan to attend the Spring National Rally. The Spring, 2016 National rally is set for Myrtle Beach on May 9-14, 2016. Anyone interested in attending and putting on a rolling rally from So Cal should let President Clapper know. OLD BUSINESS President Clapper reported that he still has one throw from the National Rally available at the bargain basement price of $25.00. Also available are two grey welcome mats with the American Coach logo at $50.00 each. The cookbooks which he had been asked to sell have, in fact, been sold. Don Ferderer indicated that he has been the editor for the So Cal newsletter for quite some time and, in keeping with his recent retirement, he would like to relinquish the responsibility. The position is open: anyone interested should contact President Clapper. The Turkey Award and its history were briefly touched upon. Current recipient, Norm Olson, is not present at this rally. That being said, there were no nominees to take it over so Norm continues to be blessed with the lovely T. Our current secretary, Susan Rose, has indicated she would like a break. Pat Adams has stepped up and will (resume) take on the role effective at the end of this rally. Welcome Pat! NEW BUSINESS We have a decision about the Western Regional rally for 2016! It will be held March 31-April 4, 2016 (4 nights) at the Golden Village Palms in Hemet, CA. The actual dates coincide with April Fool’s Day (April 1) so we are looking for a theme that builds on that “holiday”. President Clapper reported that our balance is $3,194.44. A Motion to approve the treasurer’s So Cal will be sponsoring a Mother’s Day report was made by Ray Lamb and seconded by weekend rally in Pechanga. The dates are May Becky Clapper. Motion carried. Fall, 2016 National Rally is sponsored by Norcal at Seven Feathers in Oregon. The dates are August 22-27, 2016. President Clapper indicated that several SoCal families will be going up and holding either a pre-rally or post-rally in the local area. He also mentioned the possibility of going to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in July and heading down to the Fall National rally. More investigation will be necessary before a commitment is made. President Clapper reported that at the Goshen rally he convinced Bill Dettmer to assist in setting up a rally at the Albuquerque Balloon Festival. Bob will try to pin down Mr. Dettmer and get this started. The Festival is held in early October. Subsequent to the meeting and prior to these minutes being prepared it was reported by Mr. Clapper that Mr. Dettmer has provided information about the Festival for 2016 and he is requesting responses from anyone interested in attending. The suggested dates are October 6-8, the recommendation from Bill is to go with the VIP West/East package which is $85 per night, dry camping, with two passes. If you are interested in this rally, please email Bob Clapper and Brianne Brissette ASAP so that they can get a head count. We still are looking for more rallies. President Clapper indicated it’s just like putting on a party for 20 or so of your closest friends and spouses. We do not have anything scheduled between now and April and it would be nice to have a reason to get the coaches out of storage and use them at least once between these dates. Anyone interested: call Bob. There was no further new business. Motion: Art Bridges motioned to adjourn the meeting and it was seconded by Sandy Bridges. The motion passed unanimously and the meeting officially adjourned at 10:30 A.M. Respectfully submitted, Susan Rose, Secretary MARVELOUS MOTHER’S DAY Attention all you So Cal members NOT planning on attending the Spring National Rally. We have an option for you that is just too good to be true! Mother’s Day in Temecula!!! May 6-8, 2016 Pechanga RV Park This rally will be open to family and friends so you can invite your family members and friends who have a SOB to join us in the fun. They can participate in their own RV or, if coziness is good for you, join in and stay with you in your RV. And, if they can’t commit to the entire weekend, we have another plan: invite them to Mother’s Day Brunch! On Sunday, May 8, we will have brunch in the clubhouse, served by our own faithful husbands, and following that we will have games for the whole family. There will be a nominal charge for brunch but the games are free. We would appreciate an unofficial count of who might be interested. If you agree that this sounds too good to miss, send us a quick note so that we can decide on how many spots to reserve.
