CHRIST IS COMING!
CHRIST IS COMING!
What are you expecting
for Christmas?
Wikipedia defines Advent as: Advent is a
season observed in many Western
Christian churches as a time of expectant
waiting and preparation for the celebration
of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. The
term is an anglicized version of the Latin word adventus, meaning "coming".
Are you caught up in the hustle & bustle of shopping and finding the right gift for
that right person? Are you overwhelmed by the financial pressures and the stress
that Christmas can bring? Maybe you need a change in your life, and you want to
find peace and joy. Guess what? That is what Christmas is really about.
During the Advent season, the four Sundays before Christmas, let God fill you
with hope, love, joy, and peace. Christ is Coming! Christ came so we can have life.
Christ is Immanuel (God with us). This is the good news! Our Heavenly Father
came as a baby in a manger in a dirty stable to be with us. He came so He could
die for us, even the ones who killed Him. Christ is our hope, love, joy, and peace.
What are you expecting for Christmas? CHRIST IS COMING!

THE LOFT is a new worship experience at Kodak Church, where we will gather
as a community seeking to encounter God’s presence, grace, and love through intimate
and Spirit led worship each week. Starting on January 4 th, we will meet in the gathering
space at Kodak Church every Monday at 7:30pm. Coffee, tea, and water will be available,
and all people and ages are welcome to come and worship. Be on the look out for more
details and information coming soon!
Christmas Concert at Kodak Church
On Sunday, December 13, Kodak Church will be holding a Christmas music event for the
whole family! Join us at 3:00pm as we enjoy the songs of the season as performed by our
Parent’s Day Out kids, Children’s Choir, Puppet Ministry, Adult Choir, and Worship Team!
Christmas Eve at Kodak Church
This Christmas Eve, we will be celebrating our Savior’s birth together as one
big Kodak Church family at our 5:00pm Christmas Eve combined service! This gathering
will be a blended service of traditional and contemporary styles as
we praise the God who became man to show us the depth of His love and
grace. Our nursery will be available during the service.
Christmas at THE LOFT
This Christmas Eve we will be gathering in The Loft, Kodak Church’s
gathering space, at 11:00pm to worship, read scripture, and to ring in
Christmas day together at midnight. Join us as we seek to enter into the
presence of God and worship our Savior, who’s birth we celebrate on
Christmas Day.
Thank you so much for the food, cards, visits, phone
calls, and flowers. We also appreciate the prayers lifted
up on our behalf. We are overwhelmed with all of the
love, concern, and many acts of kindness you have
shown to us. The Kenny Hodges family
Kodak Methodist Women: I would like to say “Thank You” to some special Ladies and Gentlemen. To
each of you who prepare food and help serve it to the families who have lost a
loved one, you have been such a Big Blessing. This year, we were able to serve six
families during such a difficult time in their lives. The tractor show was a new
experience for KUMC this year and once again all the wonderful cooks came
through with desserts and candies. The money made will be used to buy
Christmas gifts for Debbie Thaden’s Head Start Class. Also, Thank You to Angie
Shepherd who takes her time to do all the shopping for this project. The UMM and
KMW worked together to do the annual Valentines’ Banquet and the tractor show.
Thank You Guys for all you do for KUMC throughout the year. One more lady who I
can never thank enough is Peggy West. She is always so cheerful and helpful with
all the requests needed in the bulletins, and for making copies of the agenda each month. Last, but not
least, are the Ladies who serve KMW so faithfully. I thank each one of you for all you do throughout the
year.
Poinsettias will once again decorate our church for Christmas. You may pay “Honor to”, or “Remember a
Lost Loved One”, and then take the plant home after Church services on the 24th of December. Forms
are available with upcoming bulletins.
There will not be a meeting of KMW in December. To end the year, KMW is doing something a little
different for Christmas. Plans are in the making to have dinner at a local restaurant. Details will be in an
upcoming announcement. Instead of the usual gift exchange, we are giving gifts of dish towels,
washcloths, and pot holders to the Kitchen. If you would like to be part of this, please leave you gift in the
Kitchen. Thank You.
May each of you be blessed, and may you be a blessing to others. Gladys, and all the Ladies of Kodak
Methodist Women.
My dear and precious Kodak Church family, I do not have
sufficient words to express the gratitude I feel for all you have
done for Bob and me over the last 18 months. It has been a long
journey and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for walking
that journey with us. Thanks to all our “earth angels” for
providing food, mowing our yard, calling to check on us, visits,
for your many prayers, and your deep concern. I felt so loved by
your compassion and thoughtfulness. Our children were touched by all your love and
many acts of kindness. God has blessed us in many ways and we are so grateful.
Blessings to each you, Doris, Wesley, Virginia and Robert Palmer, Jr. and families.
Stephen Ministry
By Peggy West
“Bear one another’s burdens, and in this
way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Galations 6:2
(Stephen Ministers: Grover Honeycutt, Angie Shepherd,
Peggy West, Marie Smith, Ozella Pickard, Shauna Heath,
Tonya Bales, Sharon Rollins, Jeanna Cole, Sherry French)
There are some times in our lives when
we are struggling, lonely, unhappy, and
we need someone to listen to us,
encourage us, and be there for us. God
never promised that we would have
smooth sailing in this life. So when we
are going through tough times, wouldn’t
it be nice to have someone walk along side of you. Friends and family can be become distant or
they might want to give unwanted advice and instructions on what you need to do. A Stephen
Minister is a caring Christian friend who walks beside you and who really listens and who gives
emotional and spiritual care. Stephen Ministers are non-judgmental, and you can be free to tell
them anything without fear of everyone finding out what was said. Everything that you say is
Confidential!! Your family, friends, and other people won’t know that you have a Stephen
Minister. Stephen Ministers are congregation members who have gone through 50 hours of
training on how to give distinctively Christian care. A Stephen Minister will “be there” for his or
her care receiver, meeting faithfully for about an hour each week, for as long as there’s a need.
Stephen Ministers are the “care givers” and Jesus Christ is the “cure giver.”
We all experience challenges in life—times when we could benefit from the support of a caring
Christian friend. Stephen Ministers are ready to provide the emotional and spiritual care we
need when faced with a crisis or difficulty such as—
Loss of a loved one
Hospitalization
Divorce or separation
Loneliness or discouragement
Spiritual crisis
Unemployment or a job crisis
A terminal illness
Incarceration
Aging
Birth, adoption, miscarriage, or infertility
A chronic illness
Relocation
Recovery after an accident or disaster
And many more
“Therefore encourage one another and build up each
other.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
“Love one another—as I have loved you.” John 13:34
Doug & Barb Velliquette
529 Southview Circle
Kodak, TN 37764
Doug and Barb Velliquette came to Kodak
from Ohio approximately 13 years ago. Before
their move here, two of their grown children had
already located in this area. The third child has
now joined the others, which gives Doug and Barb
the blessing of having all family here. Of course
the family continues to grow and eight
grandchildren are able to create memories with
their grandparents. Three other family members
deserve honorable mention. There is a dog,
Daisey, who has a way of demanding her place in the family circle and two cats, Fluffy and Buffy,
who are enjoying their lives with Doug and Barb.
This pair enjoys being with people. Both are retired; however, both are recycled into jobs
dealing with people. Barb has worked at Dollywood the past eight seasons, and Doug spends three
days a week working at Knife Works. Interaction with people from all cultures and places is
enjoyable to both Doug and Barb.
The Velliquette’s have been married 33 years. During those years, many memories have been
created and many issues successfully worked through. Some of the memories include outdoor
activities and creative endeavors. Boating and golfing are enjoyed by both. Doug, a hunter, has
some remarkable trophies on display in his garage. Barb enjoys crafts, which is visible inside her
beautifully decorated home. Many memories of times together and deep bonding from life’s
challenges suggest these thirty-three years will lead to thirty-three more.
The Lutheran Church has always been their denomination before moving into this area. They
could not find a Lutheran Church here; however, Doug and Barb find the Methodist church to be
very close to the Lutheran discipline. There are basic Christian beliefs and those basic beliefs
match both Methodist and Lutheran Churches.
Barb and Doug are returning to Kodak Church. The Velliquettes were members here with the
same hearts of involvement as we witness now. The present playground and other projects have
their participation signatures. Several years ago, they felt led to another church where they fulfilled
God’s purposes for them at that given time.
We feel like they are just back home here at Kodak. Doug and Barb find the people warm
and Brad’s teaching to be Kodak’s strengths. Other strengths mentioned were the senior activities
and their Sunday School class. Both find Kodak Church to be a caring church with wide, welcoming
arms and hearts.
Both will be serving our Lord here at Kodak. Doug is a trained Stephen Minister and both
exhibit gifts of hospitality and helping. They have lived long enough to experience God’s grace and
wisdom to know they need it. Doug and Barb are real, open individuals willing to share their faith
and walk beside others through life’s issues. We welcome Barb and Doug to Kodak Church.
Looking for something exciting for the whole family during this holiday season? Take a break from the
mall. Stop staring at those packages, and come chill with us at the coolest party this side of the North Pole.
DON’T MISS JINGLE JAM RE-WRAPPED!
Presented here at Kodak United Methodist Church during both the 9:00 and
11:00 am services on Sunday, November 29th.
CHRISTMAS AT KODAK – Sunday, December 13th at 3:00pm
Mark your calendars now for this fun afternoon of music presented by our adult choir,
children’s choir, Parent’s Day Out Children, Praise Band and the Puppets. I hear the ever-popular
camels will be returning! Don’t miss out.
The puppet group will also be traveling to Dominion Senior Living in Sevierville on Wednesday,
December 16th for our night of service. We are excited to be able to share Jesus to others through
puppetry.
I can’t even explain how exciting worship is going to be in The Peak during the
month of December! We will be hearing about how God loved us first, saw our
greatest need, gave us the greatest gift, and gave us great news. Then we will be
challenged in Compassion - caring enough to do something about someone else’s
need.
Fall Festival may be over, but not forgotten. We had over 160 children and their families know they were
accepted and loved here at Kodak. Thanks so much for all the wonderful volunteers who made this event
possible. You are the best!!!!
