Ellis Avenue; 301 N from Carlie C’s IGA to the city limits; the Dunn-Erwin Trail from Ellis Avenue west to the Powell
Avenue crossing; Downtown Dunn from Cumberland Street to Vance Street and from Elm Avenue to Wayne Avenue; the
neighborhood around First Presbyterian Church; Wautaga Avenue; Westhaven Pool; tree trimming on Ellis Avenue; and
cleaning of the Black River area on 421.
Some of the groups who participated included Girl Scout Troop 1783; TRP PLLC CPAs; Triangle South Enterprise Center;
Boy Scout Troop 711; Dunn Junior Woman’s Club; Dunn PAL; Royal Rangers Outpost 40; Dunn Woman’s Club; City of
Dunn Public Works; Emmanuel Outreach Ministry; Ducks Unlimited/4H Shooting Club; City Councilman Billy Barfield;
several individual community members and various members of the Dunn Chamber, including Brad Heath, President;
Edith Elmore, Chairman of the Beautification & Image Committee; Kathy Pope, Vice President Community Development;
Tammy Williams, Executive Vice President and Heather Lawson, Executive Assistant.
The first annual Tri-Chamber Business After Hours was

from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. This collaborative event of the
Coats, Dunn and Erwin Chambers of Commerce was
sponsored by CenturyLink, The Indigo Room and
Carolina Sounds Entertainment. The evening was a
way for the members of the three chambers to network and
visit with the other Chambers, as well as enjoy some
delicious food from Deborah’s and Blackmon’s Catering.
There were several door prizes given out as well, including
gifts from the three sponsors, one from each of the three
Chambers and gift certificates from Deborah’s Restaurant
and the grand prize of a Lenovo Tablet from CenturyLink.
Thank you to everyone who came out!
Congratulations

our
Ambassador of the Month,
Keith Williams, a Business
Development
Officer/Consumer
Lender with First Federal Bank,
working in both the Dunn and
Erwin branches. First Federal
opened its doors in 1959 and now
has six branches, covering
Harnett, Johnston and Wake
County. Keith is very active with the Dunn Recreation
Department. He is a member of the Dunn Rec. Board
and enjoys coaching baseball, soccer and basketball.
In his spare time Keith enjoys hitting the links and
spending time with his family, wife Kelli, a first grade
teacher at Dixon Road Elementary, and their son
Landen who is 6.
Zaxby's of Erwin is owned by Michael and Nancy Jackson, and
their son Michael Jackson, Jr. They opened the Erwin store in January
2009, they also own the Zaxby’s in Lillington and have a proposed third
Zaxby’s to go in Anderson Creek (Highway 87).
Zaxby's is a franchised chain of casual dining restaurants
offering chicken wings, chicken fingers, sandwiches, and salads and
more! Zaxbys offers many great meal specials thoughout the week
such as 99¢ Nibbler Sandwich Day on Thursday’s.
One of the core company beliefs of Zaxby’s is that of philanthropy. Because
of that belief, franchises are encouraged to offer opportunities for charities to raise
money through sponsored charity & event nights, which are held on Tuesday and
Thursday nights locally. On May 17th, Zaxby's received the Philanthropic Partner of
the Year Award from Make-A-Wish of Eastern North Carolina through its support
during the past year, raising $103,978 during its fall Cause Card Campaign. The
Jackson family were honored during the 2014 Wish Ball.
Stop by the Erwin location at 701 E. Jackson Blvd and let General Manager
Manuel Ignacio and his staff take care of your chicken needs. For more information
about Zaxby’s call them at (910) 892-3964. Like them on Facebook, too.
The firm of Hayes, Williams, Turner & Daughtry, P.A., originally Stewart & Hayes
P.A. was formed in 1969 by D.K. Stewart and Gerald W. Hayes, Jr. Heather Hayes
Williams joined the firm in 1994, Doug Turner joined in 1997, and Parrish Hayes
Daughtry became a member in 2000.
The firm concentrates on personal injury, automobile accidents, criminal law,
motor vehicle law, real estate, divorce, family law, wills and estates. All initial
conferences are without charge with the exception of domestic consultations. All
personal injury cases are handled on a contingent fee basis, without
cost to the client unless recovery is made.
The partners are all members of the Harnett County and NC Bar
Association and the NC Advocates for Justice. Each has done extensive
indigent defense work in the Harnett County courts and served
in leadership roles with the Harnett County Bar. They are all
very active in the Dunn community and treat every employee,
and the community, as an extension of their family.
Many clients are referred to them by former clients who
feel confident of their skills and resources to help clients
navigate the legal process. For experienced representation,
contact them online at www.harnettlaw.com or to schedule a
consultation, call (910) 892-2178.

The first 2014 concert of the Boogie on Broad Concert
Series presented by Dunn Area Tourism Authority was
held on April 24 with a free concert by Band of Oz.
Hundreds of people attended the successful and sunny
event. We had concessions offered by Little Caesar’s,
Fuzzy Peach, Pelican’s SnoBalls and Funnel Cakes
by Terry Whittenton! Also there, providing additional
entertainment was Sybil the Clown with face painting
and balloons, as well as our MC, DJ Butch Halpin,
Carolina Sounds.
To see more pictures from Boogie on Broad, visit the
Chamber’s Boogie on Broad Facebook page at
www.facebook.com/boogieonbroad.
Mark your calendars now for the next Boogie on Broad
on June 5th featuring Too Much Sylvia, a Cotton
Festival favorite. And for the last 2014 Boogie on
October 3rd featuring Blackwater Rhythm and Blues
Band. Bring your lawn chairs and come enjoy the
entertainment!
The Young Professionals of the Dunn Chamber hosted the
second annual “Successful Business Leaders Forum” presented
by Oscar N. Harris & Associates, P.A. on May 8 at The Regency.
The event was paid for by sponsorships from Dunn Chamber
member businesses.
Russell Galvan, Vice President of Public & Governmental
Affairs and Chairman of the group, served as the Master of
Ceremonies for the evening introducing the panelists and asking
questions on behalf of the committee.
Panelists were Irvin Warren, CEO of Warren Oil Co., Kim
Schmidlin, President of Carolina Therapy Services and Mack
McLamb, President of Carlie C’s IGA. “These panelists were
straight forward and spoke from the heart to the more than 50 in
attendance,” according to Chamber Executive Vice President
Tammy Williams. “Those in attendance made some great contacts and got some wonderful advice. I have received several positive, as
well as, appreciative comments from those who were able to attend.”
Questions ranged from the importance of networking to how they defined success. Mrs. Schmidlin noted that “defining success
changes over time as we set different goals to accomplish throughout our life.” She and Mr. Warren both agreed that networking was
important to growing their business. Both gave credit to their participation in the Dunn Chamber, which opened doors for them both
professionally and personally through contacts made.
When asked about challenges they all agreed every business faces tough times. Mr. McLamb said “there is going to be
obstacles and fears no matter what the occupation but we can’t let that fear keep us from growing, we have to just step up, face it and
move forward.”
