provided as standard interfaces. AppleTalk, NetBEUI, TCP/IP and
other network protocols are also supported. The DocuColor 1257GA
can be used as a shared printer that supports multiple clients in a

Confidential Document Security Protection
The security print function can be used to keep confidential
documents secure. Data submitted to a printer can be saved to the

Print jobs in Print Server can be remotely monitored for status and

controlled from a Web browser such as Netscape Navigator and
Internet Explorer with WebManager. An operator can stop or resume
a job, and jams or paper and toner shortages can be checked from
a client PC. Also, printer driver or scanning software can be easily
downloaded for client PCs.
Installed fonts can be listed for verification, and the font sample list
can also be output.
Printing History Helps Check Job Errors
StatusMonitor Enables Monitoring and Operation from
a Macintosh Client
Basic operations or verification of a job and printer status can be
performed from a Macintosh client in the network environment
using only AppleTalk, without TCP/IP. Up to four Print Server units
can be monitored and operated. Up to 10 Macintosh clients can
be connected to a Print Server unit, supporting a small network
environment.
Not only successful printing - but also error jobs - can be saved in the
history and printed, and the usage of Print Server can be checked in
more detail.

Colour Management for any Workflow
High image quality color printing with excellent resolution and
professional print results expands the application range of
comprehensive design layout, proof output and other tasks essential
for the work of color professionals in the advertising, pre-press,
publishing and press industries.
Proprietary Fuji Xerox toner color reproduction, color conversion,
profile generation and color conversion allow precise color results,
with flexible color management for a variety of data formats and
industry standards. Select the color management tools needed for
your environment, and enjoy the ability to customize them according
to your workflow requirements.
Support For ICC Profiles and Accurate Reproduction of
Colours on the Monitor or Scanner
RGB colour correction and output profiles can be loaded and assigned
with the Fuji Xerox Print Server L9. Users can easily set these profiles
while checking the dialogue box for the colour profile creation flow.
• RGB to Lab (RGB colour correction profile function)
An ICC profile for a monitor or scanner can be loaded into the
server and seen on the printed result.
• Lab to CMYK (RGB output profile function)

High-Precision Simulation with
the CMYK Profile Creation Function
Use the proprietary Fuji Xerox 'four-dimensional lookup table' profile
to perform accurate CMYK simulations. ICC profiles created with an
off-the-shelf tool can be used in addition to colourmetric values from
X-Rite i1™. The profile can also be created on Printer Server and Client
PCs with the same results through seamless integration with Color
Profile Maker Pro and CMYK profile creation functions.
Fine-Tune Sharpness and Brightness after Profiling
Brightness adjustment allows users to easily correct the printing
brightness regardless of detailed specifications, using user-adjusted
curves or other parameters.
Color Profile Maker Pro Version 7.2 has inherited all the CMYK profile
creation functions, profile creation from 1,188 or 1,584 patches, high
resolution mode, and use of ICC profiles and device link profiles. In
addition, a new function enables users to adjust maximum toner
quality for precise results.
®
Celeron D340J (2.93 GHz)* performs RIP processing for large-volume
data at high speed, achieving fast printing from the first page. Once
data has been processed by the RIP and saved on a hard disk, it can
be printed with different print options or reprinted at high speed
without an application or a client PC.

and hassle-free calibration using a scanner. 'Simple' or 'expert'

• Build job function*
Several jobs retained in Print Server L9 can be bundled and printed
as one job on the Print Serve L9. Users can specify a different tray
or change the duplex or simplex setting by job, and add or delete
thumbnail data while previewing changes. You can even add a
cover or insert separators to the whole job.

Spooled documents are previewed on the monitor, and dragging
documents on the window enlarges them.
• Repeat function
The repeat function prints an image multiple times on a single
sheet of paper. When printing an image twice, users can rotate one

A high-quality header or footer draft form created by a designer
can be saved and inserted into a Word document or other

Check Data in Advance for Submission Requirements
The Print Server L9 is equipped with tools to help users check data
for errors prior to printing. Potential problems can be detected and
eliminated before data is submitted to the printing company.
• Pre-flight check function

other elements used in data so

Comprehensive Warning Functions Prevent Mistakes
A variety of print warning functions allow users to check errors in
data before it is sent to a printing company.
No warning may be issued for some data, depending on the application used.
• RGB warning
RGB images that will print in grayscale on offset press can be easily
detected when marked in magenta as a warning. Similarly, cyan is
used to warn users of mistakes in CIE images.

• Overprint warning
Overprinting or trapping
can be specified and
printed in magenta as a
warning.

• Spot Colour Warning
If a spot colour has been specified by
mistake, a spot colour plate is generated in
addition to the process colour plate in the
printmaking phase. Since spot colours are
output in gray for warning, users can recognise them in the comprehensive layout
phase.
• Total Ink Coverage Warning
If the total coverage of CMYK exceeds specific coverage, an offset
or trapping error may occur due to insufficient drying during printing. To avoid these problems, objects that exceed the specified
limit of total ink coverage are printed in a warning colour.
A colour patch, setup information note on printing options, comments, or custom items can be printed on the lower left corner of
the sheet. This function allows easy management of comprehensive
layouts when printing different versions for comparison.

Data without a profile can be processed by specifying sRGB, the
®
standard color space for digital camera data, or Adobe RGB (1998),
a color space increasingly used in RGB workflows.
• CMYK workflow
When CMYK is uniformly used for all data, CMYK colour reproduction in the printing environment can be simulated. This workflow
enables total colour management, as well as colour reproduction
in combination with RGB warnings, separated plate combination/
overprint reproduction modes, and EPS (JPEG) image supporting
functions.
When sRGB is selected, sRGB images taken with a digital camera are
printed with automatic image correction.

used and the final product is output from a printer, the RGB workflow can be used. Simply set the RGB colour correction to 'sRGB' or

Paper Tray Supports Full A3 Size Printing
Print Outlined Fonts without Expanding Them
The DocuColor 1257GA includes a bypass tray to support SRA3 size
sheets up to 320 x 450mm or 305 x 457mm, and also supports a tray
setting to run SRA3. The printable area of 297 x 432mm for copying
and 305 x 444mm for printing allows crop marks, helping users complete a variety of jobs including comprehensive layouts, catalogue
proofs and POP.
In the continuous tone K100%
resolution mode, texts and
line art can be processed at
a resolution of 1,200 dpi and
printed in high resolution. In
addition, the expansion of fonts
- which occurs when an outlined
document, PS or PDF file is
printed - can be reduced.
Outlined output
Although it is common to output EPS (JPEG encoded) images using
black only with separation, some image setters can handle colours.
With colour image setters, the DocuColor 1257GA can output EPS
images in colour and monochrome.

Easily Manage Plate Output
Usually, a color laser printer with an overprint checking function
receives separation data from a DTP application and composes it in
the printer, which can take a long time to process. To help users avoid
the task of checking overprint every time a comprehensive layout is
output, the overprint function has significantly simplified this process.
It is no longer necessary to separate data before sending it because
overprints can be reproduced within the Print Server and checked
with nearly the same time and labor required for composite outputs.
Print Server L9 is equipped with an SMTP/POP client function, which
enables users to send and receive e-mail between Print Servers. A
scanned document can be converted into a PDF file, attached to
e-mail and sent to Print Server at a remote location, where the Print
Server receiving the e-mail automatically prints the PDF file. Remote
PDF proofing workflow improves the efficiency of document proofreading, and a variety of data transmission methods are available,
depending on the user's requirements. Data can be sent from the
Print Server L9 or from a client PC and transmitted through the Internet, FTP or email to another Print Server L9.

A 2-color print simulation function is equipped to alternatively replace
spot colours with CMYK toner for reproduction. Colour reproduction
equivalent to two-colour printing can be easily performed by entering
