Phillips were part of the Raleigh group and had a
small presence in the moped market during the
1950s and 60s. They featured both Rex and
Villiers engines. This particular Gadabout has
formed part of a collection of lightweight
motorcycles and mopeds, and has been displayed
at local shows. The vendor believes that the

113 A 1976 Honda CB400/Four, registration
number
SUD
200P,
frame
number
CB400F1053385, red. Honda's middleweight
CB400F was aimed at the competitive sport sector
of the market and was in direct competition with
the two stroke, high revving Kawasakis, Yamahas
and Suzukis. What the Honda lacked in outright
speed against the competition was made up for
with its four stroke smoothness and quiet running.
The most distinctive feature of the motorcycle was
the sinuous four into one exhaust pipes which
wrapped around the engine to exit on the right
hand side of the bike. This early example has seen
very little use in the last six years, being ridden
less than 200 miles during that time. The machine
is in a very original unmolested condition and
features the correct four into one exhaust, petrol
tank livery and rear foot pegs. There is a large
history file containing past MOTs, maintenance
receipts and photocopies of magazine articles. The
vendor informs us that the bike is running well but
would benefit from having the carburettors tuned
after the lack of use. V5C, MOT to May 2014,
taxed See illustration £1500 - 2000

running well with all controls operating smoothly.
Further original features include the hand pump,
toolkit, data sheet and service and maintenance
manuals. V5C, no current MOT or tax See

has benefited from a detailed engine rebuild by
Peter Palmer of Uni-Tread Limited. The vendor
informs us that the motorcycle is running and
riding very well and has only done a few shake
down miles since the rebuild. There is good
maintenance history accompanying the motorcycle
contained within two ring files with a detailed
report on the engine rebuild with numerous
photographs, maintenance receipts and past
MOTs. This very well maintained TR6C is now

grease and has never been fired up. The vendor
informs us that there hasn't even been any petrol in
the tank. Offered for auction with the original

Lancia Delta was introduced into the UK in 1980
and in 1984, in response to such cars as the Ford

Initially designated Delta MT16 (Martini Turbo),
the first models featured white livery with Martini
racing stripes. This car is a rare survivor of the
original press fleet of 20 cars, brought over for
evaluation by the British motoring press and the
Martini Porsche racing drivers. This car still sports
its original Lancia press fleet registration plates
and the chassis and registration numbers which
still adorn the car verify this. In 1994 this car
underwent a complete back to bare metal body
shell restoration and since then it has lived a
pampered life in dry storage, emerging only to
attend such events as Lancia Club meetings and
concours events. It has covered 80,000 miles from

previous MOT certificates. The history folder
contains the original drivers handbook, press
release pack, workshop manual, contemporary
motoring magazine and road test reports, and
publicity material, including images of the car

who was a member of the Isetta Owners Club of

within the history file it would appear that he
intended to restore the car. There is reference to
the cylinder head having been worked on, but
apart from this it would look as if very little other
work was carried out. The history file contains
Isetta Owners Club literature, a reprint of an

SJR 437, engine number SR218J, Georgian silver
over dark ink blue. Introduced in 1962 the Rolls
Royce Silver Cloud III would be the final
incarnation of the factory bodied standard steel
saloons. The introduction of the twin headlamp
design was clearly the most obvious departure
from the previous model. Further improvements,
including repositioning of the front indicators and
side lamps into a single unit incorporated into the
front wings and smaller bumper overriders.
Mechanically the specification was very similar to
the Bentley S3 Continental with 9.1 compression
ratio carburettors, improved power steering and a
Lucas vacuum-advance distributor to aid fuel
consumption. SJR 437 was manufactured during
the last year of S3 production. According to
photocopies of the build sheets she was originally
finished in steel grey and steel blue with a blue
hide interior with complementary grey headlining
and Ambassador blue carpets. Further special
features
included
full
refrigeration
(air
conditioning), electric windows, combined
blinking and parking lights (above each door
pillar), plain Sundym glass and Avon tubeless
tyres. After her final inspections she was signed
off and despatched to Rippon Bros Ltd who
supplied the car to Ross Bros Ltd Ben Rhydding
who in turn sold the Silver Cloud to the first
owner, a Mr A E Walton. Having spent a number
of years abroad SJR 437 is now finished in

160 A rare 1961 Ford Classic Consul 315,
registration number 2271 RU, spruce green, one of
17 estates converted by coach builders Mr Cassini
& Mr Tonola of Hughes of Nairobi. During the
summer of 1961, vehicle 109E 18717, a two door
Ascot grey Classic saloon rolled off Ford's
Dagenham production line. Designated as a
Consul 315 denoting an export model, and in this
case it was shipped to Hughes Ltd, Nairobi's main
Ford agents. It was at this point that the car's
history takes a twist, as she was one of 17 Classics
converted by Mr Cassini & Mr Tonola, employees
of Peter Hughes, into estates. Little is known of
the cars history in Kenya. 109E 18717 returned to
these shores in 1964 and was registered BLR
298B. The Ford would remain in the Dorset area
for the next ten years, registered to a Mr C C
Dixon from Gillingham. The next custodian was a
Mr James from Southampton, who kept the car
from 1974 to 1978. Having heard of the newly
formed Ford Classic Owners Club he decided to
offer the car for sale. The club member Bob
Renshaw then acquired her from a club magazine
advert in 1978. He then embarked on a full
restoration which was completed by October 1979.
At this point the cars colour was changed to
Roman bronze. His efforts were rewarded by the
car taking pride of place on the club stand at the
London Earls Court Classic Car Show the
following year. Following on from Bob's
ownership, the next stage of the Classic's history
was taken up by John Cantwell who acquired the
Ford in 1992. A second restoration was then
embarked upon, with another change in colour to
the current spruce green, and was finished in May
1995. The finished car was then featured in
Popular Classics May 1995 issue (photocopy of
article on file). John kept the car until the current
vendor acquired the Ford from John's widow last
year. This ultra rare and well known Consul 315
estate is now in need of further TLC and comes to
auction with a comprehensive history compiled by
John Cantwell outlining past owners and

transport at a competitive price. The Talbot 75 was
offered in two wheel base lengths, short, 114

base chassis the more expensive and substantial
being X-braced, featuring semi elliptic front and
quarter elliptic rear springs and effective brakes.
All models featured the Wilson pre-selector self

AW75 is believed to be the only surviving
example of this model on the road today, and was
first registered on 23rd July 1935. The surviving
161 A 1965 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III, RF60 continuation logbook and expired tax discs
registration number AHJ 992C, chassis number would indicate that FO 3243 was last used in 1951
and was not taxed again until 1963 when some
mechanical repairs were carried out, and an MOT
was obtained. The car was subsequently purchased
by Mr Derek Allen in 1966 from an advert placed
in Motorsport Magazine for Talbot spares. It
remained in his possession for the next 40 years on
the family farm in dry storage. This remarkably
complete and original AW75 long wheel base
saloon retains its factory coachwork. The interior
is complete and all the original fittings and
instrumentation are present. The blue leather
upholstery would benefit from some localised
repair due to mice damage. FO 3243 was
purchased by the current vendor from a
Charterhouse auction, and a programme of
improvement and recommissioning to bring the
car up to a roadworthy standard has been carried
out. The coachwork is presented in a wonderful
original state of preserved decaying grandeur and
it would be hoped that the next custodian will
maintain it in the same manner. The vendor
informs us that the roof has been restored with
Cuban mahogany and West of England cloth, and
the sliding sunroof now works correctly. The rest
of the interior is as it left the factory, with blue
leather upholstery and door cards. The engine,
gearbox and back axle have been checked and
serviced, the radiator has been recored, the brakes
relined and the wheels have been shot blasted and
powder coated, and a new exhaust fitted, plus
other consumables as necessary in the
recommissioning process. On inspection the
Talbot started readily and sounded very sporty
with its new exhaust. The history file contains
expired MOT certificates, receipts from 1963 and
the old style continuation logbook. This very
original Talbot is now presented in wonderful oily
rag condition and is worthy of inclusion in any

163 A 1927 Rolls Royce 20hp Park Ward Tourer,
registration number YT 7222, chassis number
GRJ36, engine number S91, green over black.
Rolls Royce announced its new small car in 1922,
which was designed to meet the harsher economic
climate of the time. They were built with the
owner/driver in mind, rather than the larger,
luxurious 40/50 models, which were invariably
chauffeur driven. Initially available between 1922
and 1925 with the rear brake chassis and three
speed gearbox, this was subsequently improved
from 1925 with the introduction of front servo
assisted brakes and A four speed gearbox, both
chassis configurations employed the same 3127cc
six cylinder engines. Rolls Royce found the 20hp
chassis very popular with clients and 2,940 were
sold between 1922 and 1929. GRJ36, an extremely
original four brake chassis car, retains its original
Park Ward Tourer body, hood, interior, engine and
running gear. The car has been in the current
family ownership since 1973. At the time of
purchase the odometer read 39,350 miles and
between 1973 and 1989 rose to 50,000 miles. In
1989 the car was put into dry storage where it
remained until recently. GRJ36 was removed from
hibernation and a programme of recommissioning
has taken place to bring the car back to life for the
first time in 25 years. The body is finished in light
green over black with a beautifully patinated dark
blue leather interior, black canvas hood, tonneau
and hood cover. The side screens are present, the
rear passengers have the benefit of an Auster
screen to protect them when the hood is lowered,
and there is a side mounted spare wheel, a large
boa constrictor horn and rear trunk fitted. Such
original and low mileage Rolls Royces rarely
come on to the market these days and as such they
are sought after by collectors. It is hoped that the
next custodian will preserve GRJ36 in the same
condition and manner as the current owners have.

The full
specification of this car actually exceeds this
description. This is some car indeed, and the
vendor confirms that he has driven this car at 145
mph (not on a main road, he hastens to add), and
the car had still more power to give! (he chickened
out, not the car!). Prices for Mk I Escorts of this
calibre have gone through the roof and demand is
higher than ever. The original car, at a guess,
would be valued in the region of £200,000, and
this particular car is an exact replica of the famous
works rally car driven by Roger Clark. This is a
fantastic car, ready to be enjoyed for fun, historic
rallying, or track days, or even could form part of
a museum or private car collection. V5C, MOT to

164 A 1972 Ford Escort Mk I Castrol Evocation
rally car, registration number FOP 426L, Castrol
racing livery. The vendor informs us, that this car
has had a full ground up, nut and bolt restoration,
to concours show standard, and has covered a
mere 350 miles since the completion of the
restoration. The work has been carried out over a
ten year period, by a dedicated owner to a very
exacting standard of evocation of the original
works rally car driven by Roger Clark in the
1970s. This restoration cost in excess of £75,000
to complete, and it is estimated that a similar
restoration at today's values would cost around
£120,000 to complete to a similar standard. The
history folder contains photographic images of the
restoration (CD of around 170 images), which
shows the extent of this full and comprehensive
restoration, and the high level of workmanship
carried out.
The specification includes the
following: a full race prepared 2 litre twin cam
overhead valve engine, with a turbo fitted to a S14
engine, gearbox and axle units, Excedy race
clutch, bias pedal box, three inch intercooler,
Samco hoses throughout, Greddy turbo elbow
intercooler, three inch Janspeed exhaust system,

165 A 1925 Sunbeam 20/60 sports tourer,
registration number XX 1700, chassis number
1101E, engine number 1125E, British racing green
over black. Sunbeam motorcars have an illustrious
racing and land speed record breaking history. In
period they were on par with other great marques
such as Bentley, Lagonda and Rolls Royce, and
now offer the discerning enthusiast and collector
outstanding value in today's market. This
particular example started life with Landaulette
coachwork. In 1995 1101E was in a dilapidated
state and the decision was made to embark on a
full chassis up restoration, and in the process a
new sports tourer body was made and fitted.
During the restorations, which took eight years,
5,628 man hours and nearly £70,000 to complete.
The Sunbeam was meticulously restored by
marque experts. 1101E is finished in a beautiful
dark shade of British racing green with black
wings, which was achieved with 20 coats of
cellulose, which has endowed the paint with a
deep lustre. To complement the coachwork, all of
the brightwork has been nickel plated, and the
interior has been retrimmed in tan leather. The
weather gear consists of a hood, full and half
tonneau covers, side screens and hood bag. The
rear seat passengers have the luxury of an Auster
screen to shield them from the elements and a full
width mahogany picnic table allows alfresco
dining in style. The chassis, engine and running
gear have all been restored to a similar high
standard, and the culmination of all this
expenditure is a car which exudes both style and
class. There is a vast history file accompanying the
car with copious handwritten notes detailing all
aspects of the restoration, receipts, photographs of
the restoration in progress and correspondence.
Sunbeams are undervalued in the current classic
car market and at present offer tremendous value
compared to their contemporaries. 1101E now
offers the next lucky owner vintage sporting
motoring at its finest. V5C, MOT to March 2015,
