RACK-STRAP® FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q) How strong is each strap?
A) A Rack-Strap® has a static load rating of 500 lbs. When two Rack-Straps® are mounted on a side, the
static load rating of each unit can be combined and becomes 1000 lbs for that side for the rack.
However, remember to never exceed the limitations of your rack or vehicle when carrying overhead
materials.
Q) I live in a climate that is hot during the summer and cold in the winter, will the strap hold up in the
weather?
A) The strap is made of high-grade polyester and will not absorb water or freeze. This means that no
matter what season you are in, your straps will function as intended. Also, the polyester material is UV
resistant, making it the best option for warm, dry climates. Rack-Straps® have been used from Alaska to
Arizona, and have functioned well in all climates.
Q) How many Rack-Straps® do I need on my rack?
A) Rack-Strap®, Inc. recommends that no fewer than two units be used on each side of a vehicle.
Therefore, you need one pair (two units) per side of the vehicle, a Rack-Strap® unit mounted at the front
of the rack and one at the back. For customers who commonly carry longer lengths of materials, such
as 20 ft. sticks of pipe, three Rack-Strap® units per side of the vehicle are recommended.
Q) I have a van rack without the horizontal bars to mount the RS-1. The rack
only has crossbars that span across the van, is there a Rack-Strap® solution
for my van rack?
A) Rack-Straps® are available for some crossbar only van rack systems. We
are continually developing systems for as many racks as possible. Currently
we offer the RS-5, a mounting adapter and tie-down designed to fit the
Weather Guard 205/215/216 style van rack.
