Other Projects
Florida Outdoor Writers Association annual conference
The CVB won the bid to host this conference for its 2011 annual meeting. JoNell Modys,
a member of the association, served as the conference coordinator for the event, which
included pre- and post-conference familiarization tours, primarily for active journalist
members, as well as outdoor/nature excursions for all attendees during the conference.
90 attendees participated. The event was very well received by attendees.
The host hotel was GreenLinks Golf Villas at Lely Resort. The hotel did an outstanding
job of hosting both the conference rooms and the meetings in their on-site conference
center. Since GreenLinks offer two and three-bedroom condo-style units, many of the
members were able to share accommodations and split costs, providing one of the lowest
per-night room rates in many years for the annual FOWA conference. Even so, the hotel
reported $15,225.00 revenue in room night dollars. Estimating conservatively, additional
revenue from per-day spending is and association costs brings the total to approximately
$50,000.
Publicity from the conference should be generated over the next few months to one year.
At the time this report was compiled, several early articles had already been published.

Fishing Report - August 27, 2011
by Capt. Bill Baldus on 08/27/11
All eyes are on Hurricane Irene as it moves up the east coast of our country. We felt minimal
effects here in the 10,000 Islands with just a couple of Irene's outer bands reaching us. The winds
did stir up the water pretty thoroughly making for some difficult sight fishing conditions over the
last few days. We feel lucky and hope our friends in the Bahamas came through it safely, and
hope for the best for everyone in the Northeast.
I fished with noted outdoor writers, Jimmy Jacobs and Polly Dean of Atlanta yesterday. They
were here attending the Florida Outdoor Writers Convention held in Naples this week. Given the
weather forecast this week we were surprised we were able to fish at all. It was a short day but
we did manage to find some tarpon to play with most of the morning before a big squall came in
along with the top of the tide, pretty well shutting it down for the day.
The Florida FFF Expo is scheduled for October 21 & 22nd in Kissimmee this year. We are
excited to participate in this event for the first time: http://www.fff-florida.org/

DIAMONDE –GERMANY GENERAL SUMMARY


o Knecht Reisen, Switzerland: Held product training for their
reservation team in their head office in Aaurau, Switzerland on July
5, 2011. Trained a total of 8 agents plus Product Manager, Lukas
Schultheiss. It was a lunch training for which Naples sponsored the
lunch. Afterwards meeting with Lukas Schultheiss for general
updates on booking situation and marketing opportunities. Knecht
Reisen is very satisfied with the booking numbers for USA in general
and Florida in particular. Currently they feature 3 NAP properties
and stated a strong booking increase in 2011. In 2010 they had 95
room nights for Naples and 51 for Marco Island; in 2011 (status June

o Identified “Adeoreisen” as a new niche operator for Naples; work
on a stronger online presence through the portal “adeoworld”; the
own various sites, i.e. www.florida-angebote.de or www.miamireise.de . They do not work with a specific incoming agency and
some of their product they also buy through German TOs. They
have 14 people in sales wherefrom 5 are in charge for Florida. They
send appr. 500 PAX to Florida a year, main gateway is Miami. We
provided information on our area and product and placed the
idea of a “South-Florida” tour. They offered their “Blog” to place
information on our area.
o Telephone call with Heike Pleuter from Meiers in regards to current
booking situation and to evaluate short term marketing
opportunities for the left over budget from Paradise.
o L’TUR: Secured and held meeting with Product Manager, Marion
Schlösser, in their head office in Baden-Baden on July 25, 2011. First

and interested to expand NAP program. Feature 3 properties in NAP
now. Discussed possible marketing activities afterwards with their
