Swamp Buggy Winter Classic
January 30-31

Buggy Nights Under the Lights at
Florida Sports Park. This rare sport is

This local favorite near the heart of
downtown Naples offers plenty of picnic
tables and a volleyball court.

beaches, which often take center stage among the area’s
many amenities. Stake your claim with a beach umbrella
and sink your toes in the sand. Stay for sunset and see
if you can catch a glimpse of the legendary green flash.

on a 342-acre barrier island on the Southwest Florida coast, one of the

At Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park, the Gulf of Mexico’s serene waters
meet softly rolling dunes on a pristine stretch of beach. Meet migratory shore

especially where they each border on Wiggins Pass.
Enjoy what the Great Florida Birding and
Wildlife Trail guide considers one of the
best birding locations in Southwest Florida.
Situated on a tidal lagoon, this place is
ideal for kids and for taking advantage of
on-site stand-up paddleboard rentals.
South Beach (Marco Island)
A relaxed stretch of sand nestled up
to sabal palms and Marco Island’s

spot for shelling.
Naples Municipal Beach
and Fishing Pier (Naples)
Originally built in 1888, the city’s landmark
pier is perfect for strolling and watching
the sun set. For more history, swing by
the nearby Naples Historical Society’s

Clam Pass Beach (Naples)
Have fun getting there with a scenic tram
ride through mangroves. Or, take in nature
at your own pace by walking.
Vanderbilt Beach (Naples)
Swing by Vanderbilt Beach for easy
access to the coast and a fantastic sunset.
Keewaydin island (Marco Island)
This unique barrier island located within
the Rookery Bay reserve off the Gulf
coast has no cars, roads or bridges, and
has abundant wildlife. Spend the day
beachcombing, strolling and fishing. To
get there, take the Keewaydin Island
Express water taxi service from Marco
Island, or rent a boat from one of the area
marinas and pull up on the sand.

There’s a hard-bottom reef running
parallel to Delnor-Wiggins Pass State
Park (also great for snorkeling) as well
as barge and shipwreck dive sites
at various depths in the Gulf. One of
the largest Artificial Reef projects in
the Western Hemisphere is underway
in the Gulf off the coast of Naples.
Thirty-six 500-ton reefs will ultimately
be installed, providing a huge boon
to divers, snorkelers and fishermen.

at dawn and dusk, both times
when the surf is teeming with
good-sized fish. Also look to
cast a line from the Naples Pier
and near the new artificial reef
project – many fish varieties
have begun colonizing the initial
sections located 12 to 30 miles
offshore from Marco Island and
Naples. Charter fishing trips
provide access to reef sites.
• For the extreme kayak enthusiast,
travel the 99-mile Everglades
Wilderness Waterway Trail.

also part of the first generation of
CERP – Comprehensive Everglades
Restoration Plan – an amazing natural
recovery program for the Everglades.

Picayune cross-country race, or go on
one of the year-round bicycle tours,
which are a breeze on the park’s old
