Cruciform: The Core Disposition of Jesus
Series: Core of Christlikeness
Mark 1:14-20
Pastor Kent Palmer
Introduction
Definition of disposition: the predominant or prevailing tendency of one's spirits;
natural mental and emotional outlook or mood; a characteristic attitude.
Main Idea: The core disposition of a Christlike person is adopting a cruciform lifestyle, which involves a re-orientation of my life around Jesus and the
cross.
The Essential Message of Jesus is _______________________(Mark 1:14-15).
• God’s good news is that Jesus has come presenting the kingdom of God.
• Our response is to repent and believe the good news!
The Essential Orientation to Jesus is _____________________(Mark 1:16-20).
• Following Jesus means that we fully and completely attach ourselves to Jesus
leaving whatever we are attached to and attaching ourselves fully and completely to Jesus. It is attaching ourselves to Jesus and detaching ourselves from self and
the world.
The Essential Disposition to Jesus is _____________________(Mark 8:34-38).
Cruciform is living a cross shaped life after Jesus. It is participating in the cross of
Jesus—in its power to save and change us; and in our bearing our cross. It is to
join Jesus on the way to execution.
A cruciform life involves two primary elements:
• Self-denial —
• Take up the cross —
Philippians 2:3-11—
The Fruit of a Christlike Disposition of Cruciform:
• freedom from an identity attached to image, possessions, achievements, etc.
• quickness to repent and center your identity in Jesus alone;
• freedom from addiction to your family, children, you house, your money,
your job, and so forth;
COREFHISTLKN
• freedom to live out of your true self as God intends it to become!
Response: How is God speaking to me today about the core disposition of
Christlikeness, cruciform? What are the things that I need to leave behind in
order to attach myself to Jesus? How can I live out the cruciform life today?
Welcome!
We welcome you to Ridgewood today. If you are new today,
please complete a “We’re Glad You’re Here!” card. The cards
are found in the pew rack in front of you and when complete,
either place it in the offering plate or give it to the Welcome Center staff. We invite you to visit the Welcome Center for a Guest
Packet that has information on our church and it’s ministries and
a gift from us.
Join us for a Coffee and Fellowship time following the morning
service. We also have opportunities for Adult groups. You are
invited to explore and participate in any of these groups.
Ridgewood’s Mission is to live out the love of Jesus with one
another, our community and the world, so that all may become
fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
Ridgewood’s Vision is to be a growing, vibrant church teaching
God’s Word, where all are accepted, valued and strengthened
to be more like Christ, enthusiastically sharing the love of Jesus
with Brookfield and surrounding communities.
We will realize the Mission and Vision through:
• Upreach - lovingly relate and worship Jesus Christ as Savior
and Lord.
• Inreach - to lovingly relate with each other where we seek to
grow into Christ likeness and equip each other for service.
• Outreach - to expand the kingdom of God through sharing
the love of Jesus with those in our communities and into the
world.
How to become a part of Ridgewood?
First, present yourself to the Lord in seeking his guidance for
your life. Second, join us for weekly worship and group opportunities. Third, consider joining as members, but what is more
important to us, is that you have a present relationship with
Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. If you would like more information on becoming a follower of Jesus Christ, please contact
Pastor Kent.
