Equipment List
General Information
Equipment List — What to Bring on the Trek
Arrival and Departure Dates
This list is provided to help to gather the gear needed to be a successful
pioneer. Because of the weight and space limitations of our handcarts,
and our attempt to create an authentic pioneer experience, youth will be
limited in the amount of gear they can bring. The items listed here are
needed, but please don’t bring anything else. We cannot take any extraneous items.
Trek will be held Wednesday, July 20 - Saturday, July 23, 2016.

The
parents have the responsibility of dropping off their youth at the stake
center.
Trek will end the afternoon of Saturday, July 23. Youth will be
transported back to the stake center for pickup by parents.
Details with the specific drop off and pick up times will be provided at a
later date.
Registration
Registration for the Trek will be done online by going to
www.oregonyouthconference.com and clicking on the blue "2016 Trek
Eugene Stake" button. Please be registered no later than June 26, 2016
to allow us time to purchase supplies and organize the youth into families.
In order for the online registration process to work, each person
registering, adult or youth, must have a unique email address. Contact a
member of the committee if this is an issue.
Trek Fee
Trek fee is $40. This fee should be paid using a tithing envelope and
writing “Trek” and the name of the young woman or young man in the
section titled “other”. The tithing envelope should be given to your ward
bishop or bishopric counselor.
Dress and Appearance
Please arrive dressed in pioneer clothing. Participants will be wearing
one set of clothing when they arrive, and the other will be stored in their
bucket. Try shopping for period clothing at second hand stores and thrift
shops. Pioneer clothing will be stressed during the trek but it does not
need to be new. Used, well worn (but still modest) clothing is acceptable.
See the equipment list for details.

General Information
General Information
Families
Walking with Our Ancestors
When the young men and young women arrive they will be assigned to a
“family”. Each family will have combination of 10-12 young women,
young men and adult leaders.
This is a challenge to bring along one of your ancestors to walk with you on
your trek journey. Each Youth is asked to research their family history and
bring the name of an ancestor who showed great faith or courage and who
they can look to for strength. Please bring the following information about
this ancestor: name, birth date, country of origin and fun facts and stories
about this person, written down, to trek. During the trek you will wear the
name of your ancestor and have the chance to share what you know with
your trek family
Meals
All food (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks) will be provided for the
Trek. Young women or young men with special dietary needs must contact
Brian McCasline (see last page of guidebook) as soon as possible to make
arrangements.
Medical
Medical professionals will be on staff during the Trek and will attend to
any injuries and/or illnesses that might arise. If emergency medical
treatment is necessary 911 will be called and parents will be notified. It
is required that all young women and young men complete a medical
release form before attending Trek. Physicals are not required to attend
the trek, however, if a young woman or young man has any medical issues
that will be affected by his/her participation in Trek please let us know
about them. The online registration form includes a medical release, date
of last tetanus shot, and medical issues disclosure section.
Visitors During the Trek
Parents, siblings and friends are asked NOT to visit during trek.
Activities
There will be many fun activities during Trek. The activities are based on
the types of things that the pioneers did along the trail for entertainment,
rest and relaxation.
Scripture Study
During Trek the young women and young men will be encouraged to read
and study scriptures daily. Due to weight and space limitations we are
asking them not to bring a quad set. If they have access to a paperback
Book of Mormon it will be a great space saver, or you can
photocopy a few chapters and bring that with them. No electronic
scriptures will be allowed.
Testimony Meeting
As part of the trek a special testimony meeting will be held. Young women
and young men are encouraged to share their testimonies. This is
a spiritual part of the trek and one of the highlights of the week.
Trek Fireside
A Trek Fireside will be held approximately one month after Trek
(details to follow) to share experiences from Trek. A Trek DVD and
refreshments will follow.
