A young man has surprising visions: the past and the present
mix and the border between his dreams and the reality is
vanishing. Illumination is a musical in which 9 young people
from a poor district invite us to pass on the other side of the
mirror. We follow their story in a whirlwind of singings, dances,
smart, moving and funny scenes. A three generations family
saga in which the anonymous heroes shine as stars at night.
They vibrate, they live, they laugh, they cry. If you knew what is
in their head, you would look at them differently.

Between reality and fiction, Soy de Cuba is a musical telling the
true story of Rembert Egues, legend of Cuban music and Jenny
Sotolongo, singer protegee of Fidel Castro, idol of an entire
people and the invented story of Ayala, young country girl who
discovers the capital of dance and the love of her life, with
dancers, singers and live music on stage (salsa, rumba, mambo
and reggaeton). The performance was filmed at La Cigalle,
Paris.

Traveling in the Cape Verde Islands, the director and three
musicians meet their inhabitants and their musical cultures:
what is the place of music in the heart of Cape Verdeans and
what music genres were influenced by the traditional music of
Cape Verde and vice versa? They discover exceptional
landscapes and share their deep passion for music.
LANTANDA
Creole is the only common language in Guinea Bissau, former
Portuguese colony? However it is not the official language since
the country's independence in 1 973: it is still Portuguese. Creole
was used to rebel against the settlers. It has become the
language in which local artists express their feelings & the social
reality of the country. In this music documentary, we discover
how they promote this language as a cement of the national
identity, through their songs.

make the gospel music so special! Singers and musicians of
American Gospel Junior have been revealed by the American

CREOLE COUSINS
Maloya is a UNESCO World Heritage Reunionese traditional
music, a blend of Capoeira & Moringue, of Samba de Roda &
Afrobeat. This documentary follows the touring of its most
representative band, Lindigo, tracing back their roots in the
Brazilian black legacy. The band appeared at the Fuji Rock
Festival, the largest outdoor music event in Japan, on the 27th
28th & 29th of July, 201 2.
USTAD ASAD ALI, A PORTRAIT
Ustad Asad Ali Khan was the biggest Master of Rudra
veena, instrument of the Northen Indian classical music. Its
practice might disapear after his death on 1 4 June 2011 . This
musician had been the last one to have dedicated his life to
this instrument. In this portrait, the artist makes us discover
his musical tradition, his links with the court of Rampur, his
everyday life in New Delhi, where he lived with his foster
son, Zaki Haider. He shows us the difficulties inherent to the
practice of this ancient instrument and invites us at private
concerts.
MUZIKA ROM
The Rom’s music is marked by the musical influences of
the host countries of the Gypsies, the music of the Balcans,
flamenco, swing and klezmer jazz. International renowned
experts, including Goran Bregovic, explain the history of the
gypsy music.

BLACK INDIANS
New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, is a mythical vibrant city with a
unique culture, finding its roots in slavery. The African culture
impregnation during three centuries has given rise to multiple
forms of expressions as well artistic as spiritual, societal and
political. Among them, New Orleans is endowed with a fine gem,
a precious jewel, the “Black Indians” tribes.
NO SMOKING IN SARAJEVO
The three leaders of the cult Yugoslavian rock band No Smoking
were connected by friendship and music. When ethnic conflicts
emerged between Serbians, Croatians and Bosnians, ripping
apart an entire country, they split up and founded their own
bands, two of them keeping the name of No Smoking. Kusturica
will join the Serbian one, contributing to make it internationally
famous. Their story reflects the one of Yugoslavia. Will they
meet up after 20 years?
EVERYTHING GOES WELL IN THE USA
This theatrical and musical "oratorio" is a show aiming at
overcoming prejudices and sterotypes about the USA, with
songs and slams, based on historical texts (Chritophe Colomb,
Walt Whitman, Charles Reznikoff), new ones by David Lescot
and by Mike Ladd and worksongs.

its poetry and French interpretation of Bob Dylan’s songs, sings
his most successful success in the Stravinsky auditorium of
Montreux. With a 200 children choir, he achieves to

Live in Auditorium of Rome, only voice, guitar and bass give an

charm. The documentary combines a musical performance,
readings of her poems and a long interview with

KOSMOS '68
The year 1 968 brought deep change in all Europe: for the youth
in Soviet Estonia, it meant the discovery of rock music and
counterculture! Using a lot of material from private archives the
film dives into the 60s, when music was a powerful expression
of freedom against an oppressive regime.
FANS OF BRASS BAND
Be they joining a municipal, a military or a student band, Brass
players are always passionate. We follow here three very
different bands, between giggles, rehearsals and ceremonies,
and see how synergy through solidarity can generate energetic
and joyous performances. The three bands followed are the
Municipal Brass Band of Nanterre, les Plaies mobiles, la
Musique de l’Air and Zic Zazou.
JON HENDRICKS, TELL ME THE TRUTH
This is the portrait of an emblematic man of the history of jazz,
Jon Hendricks is known for inventing the vocalese called scat
singing. Like in a musical, a funny situation makes him start
singing. Enlisted during II World War, he deserted to devote
himself to jazz.
