Hello Readers,
I want to give a Hip-Hip Hooray to only weeks away from spring. I know I’m not the
only one who is thinking this way. I’m excited over the local talent that is coming to
Clendenin to help raise money for the Children’s activities for this July’s Celebration.
By raising money we will be able to have activities for the children free of charge to
them during the fourth’s celebration. There are a lot of children out there who can’t
afford to buy tickets to play games. By raising money we will be able to allow all the
kids to have fun and give them a chance to play games, walk through a traveling museum-record their own songs, play in bouncy houses, climb rock walls, and much
more all FREE! Please come out and support our fundraiser this weekend for the children and if you can’t make it you can make a donation to the Fairs and Festivals
Committee and put in the memo activities for the Children and drop it off at Town
Hall. The more we raise the more activities for the children. The Clendenin Library
has jumped on board and will be bringing a gaming center in for the celebration.
Check out the activities on page 7. I’d like to thank Keith Shamblin for donating a
rifle for us to raffle(Mossburgh Int. 715T 22 LR. AR, Semi Automatic. Quad Round
Barrel Carry Handle, 6 position stalk. Valued at approx $250) off for the children
also. Tickets will be on sale at Town Hall, Sams Auction, Ju-G’s Pawn Shop, and the
list will grow over the
next few weeks. They
will be $2 each or 3
for $5. The drawing
will be after the parade on July 2nd.
Until the next issue...Keep smiling!

Arugula Strawberry Orange Salad
Ingredients
2 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
4 to 6 cups arugula leaves
1/2 bulb fennel
1 Cara Cara or other sweet orange
4 large ripe strawberries
Preparation
In a large salad bowl, whisk together oil, lemon juice, and salt. Set
aside. Rinse the arugula the spin or pat it thoroughly dry (from complete directions, see How to Wash Greens) and set aside.
Lay the half fennel bulb flat on a cutting surface and slice as thinly as
you can. Put the sliced fennel in the dressing. Use salad tongs, salad
fork and spoon, or clean hands to gently but thoroughly toss the fennel
and coat it evenly with the dressing. Add the arugula and toss to evenly
coat those leaves as well.
Cut off the ends of the orange, revealing the flesh under the pith. Set
the orange on one of the cut ends and cut off the peel and pith (as
shown here). Cut the orange cross-wise into 1/4-inch slices. Divide the
slices evenly between 4 to 6 salad plates. Top the oranges evenly with
the arugula-fennel salad.
Hull the strawberries and cut them lengthwise into about 1/4-inch thick
slices. Arrange the strawberries on top of or alongside the salads. Serve
immediately.

The Eye Opener
A few years ago I remembered when I woke up to the noise of the water running, oh
my goodness the water line had frozen and burst. I jumped up turn the valve off to
that bathroom and got the mop out and started mopping. Going be a long day I
thought. I called a plumber and by the time he got finished I was forking out over
$200! I had errands to run and figured I might as well get them done and out of the
way. I grabbed my purse and went to get in the car and looked and my tire was flat,
oh geez, here we go again. I started changing it and my neighbor came over and
helped me and I thanked him and went on my way to do my errands. I first stopped
at the Post Office and when I came out a man looking at my car and when I got
closer I saw why, he had backed into it! You got to be kidding me! He gave me his
insurance card and apologized over and over and we went on our way. By now I’m
thinking I just need to go back home and climb back in bed. I figured what the heck
and might as well get the rest of my errands done and get it over with. As I pulled
out on the street I was so paranoid after everything that had happened so far I was
afraid to even drive the speed limit. I made it to the grocery store safely and got out
of my car and took a deep breath. I went in the store and after finishing my shopping and loading my groceries I had forgot about the earlier misfortunes. I ran a few
more errands and stopped to pick up a pizza for dinner that night. I ordered it and as
I sat at a table I watched as the girl working behind the counter took orders and
waited on other tables. I was bored setting there waiting so I took notice to all the
details of her. Her shoes were tattered; her clothes were clean, but worn. The lines
around her eyes weren’t from age, but from hard work and worry. I sat there and
reflected on the day I was having; the busted waterlines weren’t that bad. The
plumber wasn’t busy and came out immediately and I had the money to pay for it,
where as some might not been able to afford it and would had to have the water shut
off for days. The flat tire wasn’t that bad because I had a spare and my neighbor
helped me fix it. The big dent in my bumper was that big of a deal since the other
guy had insurance and I felt worse for him as apologetic as he was. You could tell
he hated it because he dented my car and caused me the inconvenience. Here I was
thinking I was having this horrible day and just wanted to go back home and go to
bed to hide from my life. This girl didn’t have the luxury of going home to go to bed
to hide, if she did that her family might not have a roof over their heads. About that
time a school bus stopped in front of the pizza parlor and two little red hear boys
came running in and wrapped their little arms around their mommy’s neck and she
kissed the top of their head and squeezed her eyes shut and when she opened them
you could see the love in them for her two little boys. She told them go washed
their hands and she would bring them a piece of pizza out. The boss came out and
tussle the boy’s hair and I thought it was great he allowed them to come here after
school. The boys looked to be around 9 or 10 and by the looks you could tell they
were twins. The mom brought them out their pizza and the love between boys and
mom was clear. She went back to get them a glass of milk and I overheard one of
them say, “Are you going to ask about the money for the field trip?” and the other
said, “You know mommy don’t have it because she said she couldn’t pay the electric bill to Daddy when he called.” When the mom came out the boys were playing
on the video machine where I had gave them quarters to play. She apologized saying I’m sorry they should never had asked you for money and I said, oh no they didn’t I gave it to them I hope that was okay. The look of relief showed on her face.
She was a very proud woman. She sat down at my table and confined in me that her
husband had walked out on her about three months ago and she was doing the best
she could, but it was tough sometimes. I touched her hand and told her I thought she
was doing an excellent job and glanced at the boys. The bell rang to single my order
was ready. She went to get up and I handed her a Fifty dollar bill and told her it was
for the boy’s field trip and she looked puzzled, then like a light lit up she remembered the trip. I paid for my pizza and tipped her nicely. That night I couldn’t sleep
thinking of the single mom and the two cute boys. I woke early and called the electric Company and anonymously paid her electric bill up and for the next two
months. I owned a business that was doing well and I knew we needed more help in
the office. I offered a job making twice what she was making and also we offered
free daycare for the workers that came with afterschool meals for mothers that
worked the late afternoon shift. That was five years ago, and the single mother was
managing my office plus had met a very nice divorce father of a sweet little girl and
they were now married and living on a very nice farm nearby and the worry lines
around her eyes are now laugh lines. That day my losses opened my eyes to what
was really important and fate helped me see the real importance of life.

Dear Cemetery Supporter:
Again we are calling upon the many friends and family members of loved ones buried in the Mary Osborne Cemetery and the
Koontz Cemetery for financial assistance with grass mowing, trimming and upkeep. Your support has been appreciated in years past and
very helpful but consequently the cost seems to increase every year.
You can be assured that all monies received from contributions and
grave openings and closings will be deposited in an interest bearing
account at Poca Valley Bank, Clendenin Branch, to insure continual
perpetual care of the cemeteries.
Your contributions may be mailed to:
Town of Clendenin,
P. O. Box 694, Clendenin, WV 25045. Please designate the Mary Osborne or the Koontz Cemetery Fund.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

From the
Mayors Desk
We have been busy
at Town Hall the last
two weeks interviewing candidates
for Police Officers
and a Part Time
Clerk.
Recorder
Ross and myself got
together with our
interview committees, (mine for police and Recorder
Ross for Clerk). We had all good applicants which made it
hard to choose one for the Police Department and one for
the Clerks position, but after much consideration we chose
candidates and we hope to get their training started this
week. Don't forget about The Jam Session this Saturday,
February 27th, at the Clendenin Rec. Center from 5pm to
11:00pm, refreshments will be available. Admission will be
5.00 dollars at the door and all proceeds will be used to set
up children's games at The Clendenin Independence Day
Celebration on Saturday, July 2nd 2016. As soon as the
weather breaks we will be doing some street repair and we
hope to do some more paving this summer. We will soon be
taking bids on mowing the Cemeteries so if you plan to bid
you need to start putting your bids together and call Town
Hall for more information. Let’s Hope that we have seen the
last “Big Snow” and spring is just around the corner. Feel
free to stop in at Town Hall and discuss any concerns you
may have.

THE FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS OF LIFETIME EXPERIENCES
BY JULIET RHODES LYNCH
Part I
The feeling of this morning, when you woke up, they are not
the feelings of your whole day. The Emotions of your day are
not the same as your feelings of your day. What are the differences of feelings and emotions and what do we know
about our life’s experiences through each one.The word feelings mean: The sense of touch and a sensation experienced
through the sense of enjoyment of something happening to
you or others. Emotions and its meaning: Emotions is an effective state of consciousness in which joy, sorrow, fear, hate,
or the like, is experienced, as distinguished from cognitive
and volitional states of consciousness, often accompanied by physiological
changes and powerful influences over our lives. How did you feel this morning
when you awoke? Did you wake up a couple of times during the night? Did you
wake up in the early morning and lay awake with ~ ZIPPY BRAIN, of what hasn’t been done , needs to be done, and scary stuff that gives your emotions a jerk
as to who needs prayers? What was it I have forgotten and can’t remember? What
am I supposed to do today? One’s mind say’s get up out of bed then, get started
doing something!
I get out of bed and waddle on bad knees and get
dressed. You walk around in a half haze , the other half is, if you don’t get the
first cup of coffee (feelings ) you will punch someone’s lights out !!! Feelings of
the journey of living and the Emotions of after; seeing your journey past, present
and a look at the future. The humbling of the journey; is when you have seen a
person that goes to an altar of a church, and kneels and lay there life before God
on that alter. As they kneel and tell the Lord, ‘’ I’ve sinned and I need you to
come into my life Lord’’. Forgive me Lord. Then the chains that bind and the sins
are released to the Lord and you become a new person. The Emotions of this sight
is Joy and the Feelings are that of the release for that person, lives will change, not
only for them but for others because of their choice.
