A Word from the bishop
Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni!” (which means
Teacher). John 20:16
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
My favorite story in Scripture is the account in John’s Gospel of Mary Magdalene going to the tomb.
It was the first Easter but Mary didn’t know that. She expected death. In her profound grief she
couldn’t recognize Jesus. It was only when Jesus called her by name that she was able to see the
risen Lord.
Jesus saw Mary. Jesus knew Mary. Jesus spoke “Mary.” It was being completely seen, utterly known
and lovingly called that opened Mary Magdalene to the hope of the resurrection and into a deeper
relationship with Christ. Because she was seen she could see.
This is Easter vision. We have been seen, known and called by God through the crucified and risen
Savior and, having received the Spirit through baptism, we all can now see. We can see Christ and
we can see Christ in our neighbor. No one is invisible to God and no one is invisible to us. What
wondrous love is this!
So beloved, with newly opened eyes let us be bold to say, “Christ is risen. Christ is risen indeed.
Hallelujah!”
Blessed Easter,
The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton
Presiding Bishop

Notes from the Music Room
Summer Music Calling all musicians! The Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir will be on a
well-deserved vacation during this summer. Thanks for all of their hard work! But I would
still like to have special music each Sunday during the summer. If you would be interested in
singing a solo, a duet, or playing an instrument, please let me know. I would like to work out
a schedule so that we have some kind of anthem/solo/instrumental piece each Sunday this
summer. This is the time to use your talents for God's glory! Please contact me at the church
office.

Pastor Andrea and I want to take a moment and give thanks to everyone for all their
hard work through the Lenten and Easter season.
Thank you to all 6 of our midweek Lenten
monologue participants: Patty Williams,
Heather Herrmann, Jared Fischer, Holly Sadenwasser, Pastor Jim Glander, and Jeff Fiegen. You all did an amazing job bringing biblical characters to life!
Thank you to all who served on the Seder Committee and worked tirelessly on
the details of the night. Your hard work made the event so beautiful, memorable, and
worshipful.
Thank you to all our wonderfully dedicated musicians! Thank you to those who
led rehearsals and practiced so diligently: thank you to the young bell ringers, adult
bell ringers, Advent Choir, and our contemporary band members.
Thank you to Ginny Sweeton! Thank you for helping to make the Lenten and
Easter season so worshipful! From the anthems to all the special music, your hard
work and dedication did not go unnoticed! You truly helped to lift our worship and
give God glory! Thank you also for all your hard work in the office. From all the bulletins of Holy Week to all the planning through Lent and Easter. Thank you for all you
do administratively at Advent.
Thank you to all those who worked behind the scene to make everything flow so
beautifully. Thank you altar guild, ushers, greeters, acolytes, crucifers, assisting ministers, those who provide transportation, and the counters.
Thank you to the youth group for all your work done at the community egg hunt
and for all the setup for the Easter Feaster. Thank you also for your work at the Easter
Feaster! It was such a joy to see our youth at work and thank you for those who have
helped to support them in return.
Thank you to the men’s group who were up early at the church cooking and preparing food for the Easter Feaster.
And last, but not least, thank you to the people of God at Advent Lutheran
Church!
When we gather together as the body of Christ there is nothing we can’t do with
the help of God. It is such a joy and a pleasure to serve God here in this place. We are
truly blessed to call you our family and Advent Lutheran Church our home.
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
